This is a problem with the current patch 1.4.2 on Macs, I'm afraid!
It should be fixed in the next patch 1.5.0 . We don't have a release date for that yet but I expect it to be in June some time.

HOWEVER note that the game's published minimum requirements include MacOS 10.14 , so it is completely untested on 10.11.6 - I cant 100% guarantee the fix for the above issue will fix you too.
