I think government systems would be a better way of representing different factions. The Mafia would be Merchant Republics, Trade Posts would be exchanged with mafia outposts(upgrades may include gambling places, alcohol distillery etc.) the "take city" casus belli would also fit well as Mafia would battle with other Mafia families and police force over turf. The Police could be represented by some kind of feudal government that gives a sense of strong hierarchy.
 
Hey guys, I had a similar idea a year or two ago. Here's what I got up to before quitting.

I was able to find shapefiles for NYC's neighborhoods, and then used MatLab to generate the attached map and definition.csv. Here's an imgur link if you're just interested in looking: https://imgur.com/a/bdcnP

It's missing New Jersey and sea provinces, but it might be a good starting point or maybe just as a reference if the map has made some progress already.

I have been working on the mod today and I have gotten it to work with the latest version of CK2. So now it can be run without any crashing issues.

I will now begin implementing families, gangs and start working on the mod. If someone here knows a lot of information concerning the Mafias and what not in Manhattan around the 1900+'s, I'd appreciate some help with history as to implement the right characters and their territory. I don't want to steer you off-topic too much but thinking about this concept reminded me of Predator 2 (odd I know). If you've seen the film, besides aliens hunting people, one back story is that Rastafarian Jamaicans are pushing the Mexican Americans out of the crime scene in near-future Los Angelos. Just that concept alone might be an interesting addition to this mod idea.

For Societies, what if you had 5 societies with extremely low membership limits for each of the ranks to act as the 5 families (Bearing in mind the player would be sharing membership slots with every courtier, baron, count, duke, and king in the map)? You could just copy/paste the ranks/bonuses between them, and it could simulate the shifting loyalties and balances of power whenever someone powerful dies and their assets are no longer strictly tied to the leadership of that family.
Political Party societies built around facilitating events to spend money for grace with the offmap mayor could also be interesting imo
 
I suggest making religion occupation/organization based. Like mafia/Federal government/State Government/Captialism/Petty Gang etc

Catholicism-> Italian mafia with college of cardinals as the commission? Idk who the pope would be but that guy would be the head honcho

Notice the three additional off-map icons on the lower right. One each for the federal, state, and city governments. Their on-map "western protectorates" are the FBI, NY State Police, and NY City Police respectively. I've got most of the characters and their history sorted out too.
"Grace" becomes "political influence". The general idea is it is increased by bribing and kissing ass and used to buy kickbacks.
The different policies for each government are status quo, blind eye, and crack down - each representing how the administration is dealing with organized crime. Statuses include political scandal, deadlock, recession, depression, economic boom, and war time.

If anyone knows how to rearrange off-map icons, please tell me.

Hi all, sorry if I'm necro-ing, but I’d be very happy to get involved in research and/or writing for this mod. I’m not an expert on code but have 450 hours in-game and can look into the mafia history wherever needed.
 
Obviously I'm late to the thread, but the Kosher Nostra/Purple Gang would be an awesome addition to the mod. It'd add historical accuracy, especially considering it's set in Manhattan, and it could add a religious element like in the base game.

I'm currently making a Mafia Mod for Crusader Kings 2. The mod is set in New York and currently, the first and only bookmark is set in the year 1917, although ideas for other time periods are welcome. I have linked and attached a raw picture of the current map:


Although it is called The Mafia Mod, I'm open to other naming suggestions as other characters and ranks are planned to be playable, such as Policemen, Businessmen and some other smaller gangs.

The following families are planned to be in the mod:
The Bonanno Crime Family
The Colombo Crime Family
The Gambino Crime Family
The Genovese Crime Family
The Velentzas Crime Family
Currently, the Corleone family and the other families from The Godfather are not planned to be included.

There will be new cultures added such as the American, Italian American, etc. As for the religions, there will most likely only be added one other, which will be the Protestant religion.

Sadly this mod is far from being playable and it will take even longer if I don't share this work with others, so I'm looking for people that would like to help me in making this Mod a reality. This would be really cool to see with maybe some Irish Crime families and other such crime families and maybe a 1930's Bookmark and some other bookmarks between 1917-1969 and i have an Idea with Small buissness owners being counts,The Mafia being Dukes the Mayor as King level and a President for the Empire level title hope to see this on the steam workshop please
