To recruit a tier-4 unit, you need to research a tier-3 tome and build a tier-4 city center.
To summon a tier-4 unit, you also need a tier-3 tome and a Mage Tower Spire.
But to craft a tier-4 item, all a Giant needs is some tier-2 artifact fragments (tier-1 fragments aren't a problem).

Today I played a tournament duel on a small Discord server, and I got completely destroyed by this one item. The screenshot is in Russian, but the damage numbers speak for themselves: 84 base damage and a 90% crit chance. On top of that, the attack can’t miss, hits an area, and applies debuffs.

The fight happened on turn 44, but my opponent started moving toward me around turn 30 — which means he probably already had that item by then. Again, crafting it only required fragments, and Giants clear the map so efficiently that fragments are no issue.

At that point, I had just started researching my first tier-2 tome, while my opponent was likely still on tier-1 — yet he already had a tier-4 item.
I’ve played a fair number of multiplayer matches, and usually when I lose, it’s due to my own misplays. But in this particular case, I honestly don’t see what I could’ve done to win — maybe try a desperate attack somewhere between turns 20 and 30?

This situation reminds me of how things were when the Artifact Forge was released — archer heroes with tier-4 bows were a plague in multiplayer.
I believe the Beast tome was nerfed because it allowed heroes to scale their damage way too hard.
And I suspect that the upcoming change to move Caplain from a tier-1 tome to tier-2 is being done for the exact same reason.
