I agree that the Sultan would not need to fund the pirates. Quite the reverse, the pirates are funding him. Clearly there needs to be something in it for the Sultan and kickbacks are the big one. It could be a simple random event "The Spoils of Piracy" that provide a direct cash injection, an event that is slept if the pirate cities abandon the Sultan or Sicily is successful, or the Sultan turns on the pirates.

In all this excellent reqorking of North Africa, remember to leave some room for a possible alliance between Sicily and Cordoba. I still intend to pursue that concept should Genoa get the upper hand in the inevitable wars between them.

Here's another idea. I will be including a Pope 'enforced' peace between Genoa and Sicily if they are still at at loggerheads when the Reformation hits, but there could be an earlier reason for the two to cooperate. The Pirates may hit Sicily hardest, but Genoan trade is also affected. Perhaps the Genoans leave Sicily alone if Sicily pusrues the Pirates, on the old model that your enemy's enemy is your friend.

Do you plan to have the Pirate War events kicking off early?

Hey

Been a while since I did anything :D

Im just wondering if IC did anything for the Maghreb or could I have a go ahead and try to script some events for Tlemscen, the Reconquest of Sicily, or the collapse of North Africa?

Calipah,

Incompetant said he was working on the Sicily/Pirates redo but in all honesty I am not certain he is really coming back to the mod. Maybe, maybe not. I think you ought to work on the things you want to work on and if he comes back then he can add his ideas as well.

example of my work so far on Tlemscen.Any ideas?

Calipah,

This is a great start. I really like the approach and the setting of two paths/approaches. As usual, your knowledge of the history of the region makes for great flavour text and a solid historical 'what if' background.

My main comment is that, which event stream happens if a player/ai does not chose all action_a or all action_b ? Or is it a matter of 2/3 majority sets them down one path?

MattyG

Well for now, Im not sure if there should be any other path, I want to construct the main events before we divulge into other paths, Im also giving a quick lookie over Morocco, which I might also abberated for the sake of the game..

Now another matter I was thinking about....Muslim Sicily.I think I brought it up once, and i would like to do so again, its a terribly intresting development for North Africa and Christian Italy...

ixsj2x.jpg
(11th century to 13th)The Normans had invaded Sicily, but their rule was disrupted by the rebellion of Sidi Mahmad al-Avidi, who was sucessful in his revolt, and created the independent Kingdom of Avidi. His Emirate grew in strenght and actually retoke Messina for a short while, and added Malta to her possesions.

(14th century) Islamic Sicily faces consequative defeats on the hands of the crusaders from Sicily. The Monarchs of Naples have recaptured Messina and Zagra. The Muslim villages and towns are evacuted, and Palemero turns into a great Muslim citadel under siege. It would not fall until 1419 due to the incompetance of Emir Kamal al-Avidi.Malta had been snathced by the spiteful Genoese as her garisson could not hold on.

Some may ask why Tlemscen didnt help the Muslims of Sicily?simply because the Zayyanids have a long standing feud with the Avidis regarding Malta, and the Emirs of Sicily, though at uncountable odds, refused to hand over the island to the North African Sultanate.

Sicily is at war with the Muslims of the Medina Palemero, and are laying siege to the Emirate.(Think AGCEEP 1520 Granada situation) and is annexed directly.A History of Inquisition and Spanish like Christenizing against the Moors begins.

Why this storyline?

It justifies Suqali culture (Muslim Sicilian) and rather than building a country from scartch for Tlemscen, we can simply bring the Almohads back into the game when they "reconquer" Sicily, if ever they succesed.

With the renewal of the Inquisition , Sicily became a country of religious fanatics where agricultural work and crafts were considered labors unworthy of Christians. The massive forced conversions, enslavement and burnings became more often.Expelling the Moors of Sicily would surly empower the Kingdom as the protector of Christendom. The Nobility also urged the King of Sicily to move the capital to Palamero to make use of the Moorish resources.Such an event would surly allow the Kingdom to launch further attacks against the Muslim infidels in Africa."
