That's got to hurt a lot... but how come the flames only managed to get the bottom half of him?

It's a noodle incident. Sometimes they are better left to the imagination.

That said, it's definitely a grudge and a half. I'm not exactly surprised he went full mad science as a result.

Also, supersonic trebuchet... I'm impressed and concerned in equal measure.

With the exception of Buri and The Holocron, all our other protagonists probably would all be both impressed and concerned. Buri of course, just sees his old friend making wonders with wood, stone and very limited bronze, and The Holocron... Well, this little prologue section is setting up our Xenaya characters for Mandate Of Heaven; Guna and Buka will be key leaders within Lartius and Juno's mercenary enclave.

And Foki, well, he'll become The Holocron's apprentice.
