As promised some time ago, we're now releasing the Manual for the upcoming CORE 0.3 as a teaser of sorts. Hopefully it'll give you all a glance at what's coming.

Please note that this is still a draft and not necessarily the final version. More content may still be coming.

(Btw, feel free to upload the Manual to other shares and post links below)

Nice work, Baylox!

Alas, I fear that by the time .30 is released my vacation will be over . . .

If you need any help with proofreading, etc., I'd be glad to lend a hand (noticed 1 or 2 typos/missing words, etc.), but I realize it's just a draft and you may already have folks on board for the final proofreading. Just give me a shout if you want any help.

Go ahead and post here or PM me any typos or such that you find. Any help is appreciated.

I have thought a lot about pictures, but its hard to find suitable ones when you often want to show a whole screen (which becomes very small when copied into the manual).

The HoI2/DD manual managed it well enough. It will definitely take some serious cropping though.

Perhaps some notes about changes to attachments (brigades) ?

Something I would love too see is some kind of charts over all divisions, ships etc, to get some kind of overview. You know like a....well..eh..I know what I'm thinking about but it's kinda hard to explain.

I don't have neither hoi or core available right now so this example is just taken out of the air, I hope you understand what I'm aiming at. Otherwise I guess I'll have to wait for the release and do it myself so I can show you. :D

Cavalry type division:
-----------------------------
Cavalry 1918
Cavalry 1936
Cavalry 1939

Semi-Motorized Cavalry 1939
Leichte Division 1937

Light armor brigade:
---------------------
Infantry tanks:
Infantry tank 1918
Infantry tank 1936

Assault guns:
Assault gun 1939
Assault gun 1941

Or something similiar. MateDow's answer to my question here: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=190939&page=11&pp=20 also gives a good clue to what I'm talking about.

The purpose would be to get a nice overview of available units since we now have more unit types and serveral types sharing the same model file (like IIRC Infantry tanks and SPG's ?). Would make it much easier to get into the new stuff IMO.

But otherwise the manual seems to do a good job in describing the major changes in CORE.

Taken into consideration, as an Appendix perhaps.

A couple of things in the manual that need edits.
On page 4 you refer to 6 and 9 Brigade units when I assume you mean 'battalion'
On page 6 you refer to 'England' when I assume you mean 'Great Britain'. England is a region of Great Britain.

Otherwise I cannot wait for the .3 draft.

Great Britain means the countries of England, Wales and Scotland considered as a unit. Often Great Britain is used synonymously with the UK. However, the UK and Great Britain are not strictly equivalent since the UK is a state formed from the union of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The British Isles is a geographical term.

The country I live in is England.

The State I live in is the UK or the United Kingdom.

In game terms the UK is the name that should be used.

The Empire, Colonies or Commonwealth of Nations is a fairly tricky one to describe.

In the time period covered, Several countries were independent from the UK, but kept our Sovereign as Head of State.
Several territories were Mandated by the League of Nations to the UK.
Some areas were Crown Colonies.
Some areas were Protectorates.
Some areas just had British military presence but were independent (in theory if not in practice).

A complex subject as you can see.

Suffice to say that UK is the best description for the game.

Re. England/Great Britain/United Kingdom - I'll see if I can add some consistency to this naming throughout the manual. Thank you little_napoleon for the clarification.

In the game, though, we do not include any (or very few, at least) of the major colonies as part of the British Empire, so United Kingdom is probably the most fitting term (I've used these various terms interchangeable to add some diversity, though technically not correct).

Baylox, I've downloaded the .PDF (twice), but Adobe reader keeps saying that the file's corrupt. I don't have any problems reading other .PDFs I download. And since no one else seems to have (thus far) reported a similar problem, I'm left wondering and thus must ask: what version of Acrobat Reader is required to properly read this doc? I'm using version 8, which AFAIK is the latest.

Versíon 8 is what I'm using, but the PDF version of the document is 1.5, so you should be able to open it in Adobe 6 or later.

Version 8.1 is actually the latest version, so if you don't have that update then you might want to get it - just in case there's something slightly wrong with your Adobe Reader. Hope if works out for you!

I liked it a lot. Perhaps you could add things about the different way some colonies are managed? (I.E. British India and places like that).

Also, I was surprised that the USSR was Semi-Industrialized, but whatever floats your boat :). Are they a special case where they'll be able to advance or get events that open techs for them though, or are the handicapped the whole game?

Glad you liked it! I'll see if I can add something about the colonies.

The way things are now the Soviet Union are indeed handicapped throughout the game. While there are drawbacks to this (obviously), these aren't huge drawbacks. They mostly deal with the access to Electronics (and related techs) as well as Agricultural techs - things the Soviet Union were behind the more industrialized nations throughout the timeperiod. Make sure you read the descriptions of what these industrialization levels represents.

Note that being Semi-Industrialised isn't always a handicap - your units typically cost less, your supply needs are lower, etc. What it does tend to mean is that certain high end techs might be either very hard (harder than for a Fully Industrialised nation, that is) for you to achieve, or (indeed) impossible for you to gain access to.
