Well. I've got this problem. Long ago, I uninstalled EU2 to get some (at that time) neccaseriliy space. Now, some other games is deleted, and I tried to install again.

But then some kind of error occured, and I had to restart. When I started the PC again, I manually deleted (oops, big mistake!) the game, so that I could install it again.

But now, if I try to run the setup it Always believes that the game is installed, and I get to choose "uninstall" or "repair". If I choose "uninstall" it "uninstalls" but if I try again it still thinks the game is installed. I get the same problem if I choose "repair".:( :(

How shall I do (without re-installing windows 98)?

I had similar problem just couple of hours ago. The FAQ sticky has detailed instructions how to cure the problem. I´m currently installing EUII, and everything seems to be in order.

Hi Mormegil,

No, I don't believe you will have to re-install Win98. A very useful utility for removing all traces of a program is EasyCleaner. This utility allows you to clean your registry of miscellaneous entries. You will most likely find quite a few entries pertaining to EU2 if you have already manually deleted the files and folders for EU2. (Of course, you may pick up other miscellaneous entries as well)

So, where can you download this utility? Try the following link:

www.toniarts.com/ecleane.htm

Also, if you're confident enough, you can manually search in the registry for key strings, eg: Strategy First, or Europa etc (assuming you only have one Strategy First title) and delete all entries containing those strings. After doing that you could run EasyCleaner again.

Bear in mind, though, that you play with the registry at your own risk. Recommendations are that you back up your existing registry first.

Hope this helps you.

Regards,

Asterus.

There's also a complete step-by-step "How to uninstall" in this forum's FAQ thread. See the link in my sig. Just follow those directions for any step you can (you might have to skip one or two since you manualy removed the fisrt parts).

Let me know how it goes.

I succesfully uninstalled the "keys", but I didn't find any "installshield installation information". I searched the whole computer...

Thanks for all the help:) :p

It's a bit unpredictable as to what all might still be there or not. As long as you've purged your system of the old stuff you should be able to do a fresh install and have it work correctly. Let me know....

It still won't install. Can I try to uninstall installshield? if yes, how? (I don't gonna manually uninstall again...;))

Yikes! No...don't uninstall the installshield whatever you do. It would be far better to reinstall Windows than that.

If you go to Start-->Control Panel-->Add/Remove Programs are there any references to EU2 or Paradox (or Strategy First) there? If so, double click them and chose "uninstall".

After than if you run regedit.exe are there any references anywhere there to Paradox or EU? If so, try removing them entirely.

After that, are there any folders anywhere on your system that refer to Paradox, EU2 (it will actually say "Europa Universalis 2"), or possibly Strategy First? If so, nix them too.

If none of that works, let me know and I'll see if I can dig up the necessary information on how to remove a log entry from the installshield.

Installshield's still there:)

In the add/remove program EU2 is still there and won't disappear.

I searched (searched for paradox, vp, eu2 and europa universalis 2) and found one named eu2.exe or something, and deleted it. I also found a paradox entry I deleted. (I've got vision park btw).

There's no traces of any paradox or eu2 files on the computer. I've got some old files from eu2 btw. I copied some of the files I had modified alot before i uninstalled eu2 (long ago). they're in a folder named "eustuff"...

Still can't find any key's...

Thanks for all help!!!:) (forgot to do that;))

Are you positive that you've removed the entry in the C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information folder? It really sounds as though it's still there somewhere (maybe there were two entries and you only got one?)

Hi,

Have you checked the

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\uninstall

registry key (with regedit)?

This is where the add/remove control panel applet keeps it's references to install/uninstall programs. Remove the proper keys, and the program will no longer appear to be installed.

First locate InstallShield Installation Information -folder (I have it in Program files)

Then locate the subfolders with long codenames {11E753A7-......}
The name is probably different than in the FAQ example. The only way to find correct folder is then to read through all the .ini files in those folders, the name of these files are _not_ labeled as EUsomething.ini, but as setup.ini.

When You find the .ini -file that has this AppName=Europa Universalis, you have found the correct folder. Then proceed by removing the folder.

It worked!!! :D:D:D

I thought that when i searched trought the program files folder the search-thingie found hidden things. But it didn't. Now I discovered the Folder alternatives, button, and Boom! I found it. I succesfully found the map and that map went straight to the thrash.
When i went to the add/remove thingie, EU2 was still there, but if I open the cd it all goes well (the installation wizard)

Thank ya all guys, God, Allah, Zeus and some more bless you! :) :D

Now, excuse me, I've got a world to conquer.:D

Woohoo!

Enjoy your conquests. :)

Good point!

A very special thanks to all three of you. I really do appreciate it when other people either step up to the plate when I'm away from the forum (sadly I have RL responsibilities too) or who have areas of expertise that exceed my own and take a moment to help a fellow gamer.
