Hey, I just wanted to say that it's the best map mod out there for CKII and it would be sad if it will be discontinued.
If there are any map experts willing to revive this mod, please contact the author, don't let this mod die out!

I know it's not entirely the same, but my mod uses this map mod as its base map.

I'm glad you like it!

The mod isn't exactly dead, it did what it was meant to do - provide an alternative basic map (with few map changes and no title changes). And since the vanilla map hasn't been changed since I first released it, I haven't needed to release a patch. I probably could have made posts every patch to the mod thread to say that it was still compatible.

I made a version compatible with IBL at the time, since I was playing with that mod. I have another unreleased version which I use that has additional provinces - it isn't stable which is why I didn't release that. The time I spend working on that mod is related to my current interest in CK2, which hasn't been that high this year. I guess in that way the mod was 'dead'.

Since the next DLC adds new provinces to the map, I'll be sure to update for that.

I was really worried that maybe you left the forum because maybe you stopped playing CKII since then. I mean, there wasn't much of activity around here for a long time and it really scared me at first. Well then, all I have to say now is that I'm happy and finally relieved once I know that you're still around & watching this incredibly essential mod.

I also really want to thank you for this remarkably beautiful map & projection choice. I love the conic projection. And since I'm deeply disturbed by cylindrical map projections & by stretched provinces, it really makes the key difference for me in CKII.

Updated to 2.8, see original post.

If you notice any errant pixels, positionings, etc., make a post about it and I'll see about fixing it. The positioning for Tibet was done relatively quickly, so some cities may be in wrong positions. I'll probably get around to changing them at some point, however right now the map works fine.

A really beautiful mod. Fell in love with it at first sight.

Minor problem I noticed. The little on-map structures from the Conclave Content Pack - things like Hadrian's Wall and Visby Ringmur - weren't moved along with the rest of the map, so they're currently floating where they're not supposed to be.

And a quick question. Will updating this mod in future break a save game I start now?

Is there anyway to fix the black spots that appear on islands and other bits of terrain when you zoom out? I've noticed it in Italy too.

Is subsaharan africa a wasteland, or are there provinces in it?

It's just wasteland. I made it a 'wasteland province' instead of having it be 'no province' so that you'd see the terrain on the map. Otherwise it'd be black like generic impassable regions, which would clash with the Sahara north of it.

Ah - I don't have the pack, and forgot those doodads existed. I've made a fix here - just copy it over your Dec 3 mod version. I've reuploaded the mod on the first page so new downloads don't have this problem.

It shouldn't break any future games. In fact you could use it with an existing vanilla save file - there might be some issues in the first year if any Vikings were embarked on some re-purposed rivers, but other than that it should be fine. I purposefully made this mod not add any new landed titles or usable provinces to stay compatible with Vanilla. It'll only break when vanilla breaks save files.

I think that's due to how the graphics are rendered. When you zoom out, it trys to quickly draw land shapes based on the elevation at a low resolution. I've used satellite topography, and globally adjusted the heightmap to something I liked, and not specifically tweaked certain areas. I assume the 'black squares' are where water isn't drawn, but no land is drawn. It would take quite a while to readjust coastlines to not produce those artifacts.

The mountains in my mod are a bit sharper than in vanilla, and as far as I'm aware, this is what causes those 'black squares'.

There's no quick fix for this. You'd either need to blur the heightmap at the problem areas, or (maybe) disable water drawing.

Hm-m-m. I'd love to say that this worked, but alas, no such luck :( The Qubbat as-Sakrah's still stuck in the Egyptian desert. As for some of the other structures that were in the sea, like Visby Ringmur, I can't find them at all anymore.

Edited to add: Well, it's just the damndest thing. In the interest of clean testing, I checked again with all extraneous mods disabled, and it turns out Better Looking Garbs somehow makes the Qubbat as-Sakrah migrate to the Sahara? I have no idea why this would be happening.

To be clear, the problem with the structures missing is still there with all other mods disabled. It's just that when Better Looking Garbs is turned on, the Qubbat as-Sakrah is the only one to appear... but in the Sahara. So weird.

Those map doodads were added in a DLC which I don't have. The text files associated with them (which determine what they're called and their positions) are only found in that DLC - without those files I can't really mod their position at all without knowing the names and format in and of the text files (and even then, the wall in Scotland probably wouldn't fit the new shape of Britain). If I had access to the DLC file(s), I could try to place them, but I don't. What I did instead was make it so that only the doodads included in the mod are placed (which is only the map border).

I assume the Qubbat as-Sakrah was added/changed in BLG, which places it on the map coordinates of where it should be in vanilla.

By fixing it I just removed those objects - I guess though that some people would like them on the map. If you want me to try to properly fix them, you'll need to tell me the contents of some files in the DLC. In your CK2 install, there is a dlc folder, with (I think) dlc063.zip in it - which is the Conclave Content Pack. In that zipped folder, in /map/statics/ should be at least one file. The file structure is something like:

Code:
    object = {
       type = "frame3072"
       position = { 3.000 -8.000 3.000 }
       rotation = { 0.000 0.000 0.000 }
       scale = 100.00
   }

I need to know the file names, as well as the 'type' and 'scale' (maybe 'rotation' too) for each of the objects. Without that information, I can't add them to this mod. It'll be a bit rough, since I don't have the models, but I can try to place them and you could give me feedback on what's positioned correctly or not.

After the assumed fix, if the Qubbat as-Sakrah is still in the wrong position, it's because of mod load order. But you can just fix it by removing that /map/statics/ file from BLC when you use this map mod (you can just rename the statics folder to something and CK2 won't find it).[/code]

I do not keep to upgrade with the new provinces in Holy Fury! Mod I do not play without in the vanilla!

Updated for 3.0.x. Added to first post. Download link here. Post any issues, ie. lone pixels, broken adjacencies, or misplaced positions.

EDIT: quick positions fix that I forgot - don't think anybody downloaded yet, so don't worry about it.

Great! New Version!

- There's two stray pixels from what I think is Khotan in the middle of the Eastern Sahara.
- There's a 215;215;215 pixel immediately to the west of Lake Chad. I've searched around and there doesen't seen to exist any province with that color in the game.
- The settlement of Passau (maybe the other positions too, though I haven't checked then all yet) is inside the neighbouring province on the other side of the Danube.

That's all I've found as of now, but other than that, the mod is perfect.
