I guess this one is pretty easy to answer for an experienced modder (unlike me):

What could have gone wrong that many of my counties have no culture / no religion? I have given every one of them a culture and a religion in his county file. Do I have to set something in the landed_titles?

Edit: Never mind, found it. Both my counties and the vanilla counties were loaded. The engine picked whichever came first in the alphabet.

And an related question: What is the preferred tool to get the positions.txt done? The EU3 tool is cool for picking positions sadly the output format isn't quite right (although it's open source and could be adapted). Other than that I haven't found a program that did work for me.

If you put the .mod file either in the mod directory in the install folder or in the Crusader kings 2/mod folder inside the documents folder the mod should (and will) show up.

Use nudge_allowed=yes in the setting.txt and choose the button in the opening window. It is a amazing tool in CK2, and that's why there is no map editor.
Don't forget to back up the original positions.txt in the vanilla map folder though. The nudge function overwrites it even if you are changing a modded map.

Wow, you just blew my mind. Big thanks. It could've been that easy :O

Is there a tutorial anywhere which shows how you make "good" terrain and topology maps? Especially the color transition of the topology map is something of which I don't really know how the experts do it around here.

Download the Winter King and imitate it.

Alternatively, make an attempt, log in and look and repeat till you're satisfied.

Most of the real world maps use real world topology - otherwise you'll have to go with burn and dodge; (in decimal) 93 93 93 should be sea, 97 97 97 land, and you go up and down.

Actually, I'd say 96 for land, it is 94 and 95 one should avoid when making a two colour topology, and anything then below 93 or above 96 will enhance the graphical glitch that is bound to happen when you zoom out the farthest.

Having trouble with my map, crashes when sea provinces are defined as such in default.map but when it is set to have no sea provinces they load fine. Seems adding them as sea provinces causes a CTD at Loading Graphics but I can't tell why

Alright, so iam making my first new map. I read over half of this thread and it solved a lot of problems i had.
But at the moment iam trying to get my map to load to get some reference as to how it looks, so i added a few provinces and one character to hold the titles. But alas, it doesnt load any further then the "map logic" loading screen. Does anybody have any idea's to what iam doing wrong?

Ps. the provinces.bmp looks kind of weird at the moment, because i added a lot of white to downsize my water province.
