Cool, now I eliminated three more circular rivers (blocks like I had here) and two too small rivers (one case of a misaligned pixel, and one case where a tributary had its own green starting block). For the first time since I started river modding my graphics log only has the province 0 origin error in it :)

Apparently, rivers modding (and errors handling) is not very well-known, did somebody write a guide to map modding to help everyone here ?

I wrote some long time ago a river mini tuto but I can't even find it back myself :D

Started editing the map and got "Province 0 has invalid origin" as the only error in the graphics log when it crashed at loading rivers. I'm guessing it has something to do with rivers but can anyone tell what exactly it means? Its driving me crazy.

"Province 0 has invalid origin" is a classic no-issue error, it appears even in vanilla.

If the game crashes at loading rivers and display no errors it could mean that the file is not saved in a good way. What program do you use to mod ?
Did you saved it with its original color palette (indexed colors) ? And did you check the "Do not write color space information" if you use Gimp ?

I use photoshop and I haven't messed with the modes, but I imported the palette from the corresponding vanilla files to see if that was the problem and still get a crash at rivers.

Are you sure to save your provinces file under 24bits ? And not saving the spacecolor definition ?
I think the error came from the latter as when I went back and re-saved everything, the error did not show up again. So I thank you for the tip. :D

This one happens when you set several river starts (green point) for the same river (the game handles a river as the main river + all its tributaries).
But seeing the coordinates, I guess you set a river in the border of the map. I recall having issues with rivers touching the map border. Try to move your river so it do not touch the border.
No rivers placed on the map, but just incase I went around deleting the edges and repainting them just to be sure.

Have you a blank positions file in your mod folder ? That can be a reason for this error.
I do yeah.

Now I use GIMP so I when I re-saved, these were settings I were using: 24 bits(R8 G8 B8) and "Do not write color space information".

After this when I tried to get CK2 to load the map again, it crashed on calculating paths. So now I'm stuck again it seems. xD

So I recreated my map and got passed the loading screens, but now the entire world is dark, not black mind you, just very dark like there's thick fow. I tried raising the values in the fx map file but that didn't help. Anyone had this problem?

Do you use a custom map size (i.e. different from 2048x2048) ? If so, just paint a blank 2048x2048 world_normal_height.bmp with a color close to [121,125,255]. CK2 just cannot handle a world_normal_height different than 2048x2048 (due to shaders I guess) and a different size just mess the game brightness.

A quick check-up is to look at the files sizes for a 2048² map :
provinces and world_normal_height -> 12 587 008 bytes.
rivers, terrain and topology -> 4 198 400 bytes

Well, I usually answer questions but here I've got one.

I've been messing with the map (well, from the Patrum Terrae one) and while everything is fine, when I switched to culture mapmode, this is what appears for greeks :

The color seems to let appears the terrain and sea (I can see waves passing on Anatolia :confused: )

I checked and what I found is that provinces, world_normal_height, rivers, terrain and topology are all 12 582 008 bytes big. Which means my rivers, terrain and topology is too big I take it? If so then I wondered what I've buggered up...

The land starts at 96-96-96 right?

Then, your rivers, terrain and topology don't have their indexed colors and are saved as regular 24bits bmp which is wrong. Open the vanilla files and copy/paste (in Gimp) your data into the vanilla files and export as new files, it will keep the indexed colors.

Hum, yeah, sea at 93 and land at 96. I guess I could set it up from 97 but it's strange that it happens only for this color ...

I did that and it seems to have solved those issues. Though now I crashed on the loading graphics part and the logs gave me this as the reason:

I've no idea what it means by the vertices error.

Yep, about vertices, I don't think it's a real issue.

About positions, I think your mod don't have a blank positions.txt file.

It did, but I copied over the vanilla one and deleted everything in it afterwards. I didn't get the chance to test it yet though as I had to run off to work. It might be that I'm missing some file for the map. The files I do have is: provinces, topology, terrain, rivers, world_normal_height, definitions, positions(which is empty), statis(also empty), default(which I doublechecked the sea start and end province number and can confirm they are correct) and adjacencies(which is also empty).

I think adjacencies needs to have the last line from vanilla in it.
that "-1;-1;;-1;-1" thing.

try to see if it loads without rivers and or terrain files. those are usually the culprits.
