This:
1;2;sea;930;-1;-1;-1;-1;a-b

Loads up fine with this little addition.

You should've done what I told you above :p

Ups. I missed the part with the sea connection

Thank you! To bad that we need one of every connection... :/

I am not good at making maps. This is a map of America I tried to make, but no matter what I do, the game crashes at 'Calculating Paths'. What have I been doing wrong and how do I fix it? I just want to get to the point where the main screen loads up.

I guess the provinces are just too big, I have the same problem on my map
Size of provinces aren't an issue. PDS changed the way the engine deals with provinces so that giant provinces doesn't crash the game anymore.

Have you defined it as a separate region?
UPD: Oh, it's a separate America, but yeah, there's no land path between Louisiana and the other provinces. You need to describe one of them in region.txt

If it's not that, then, what's causing the current map I've got to crash before even getting to the menu screen?

I guess you basically try to replace the map and the map alone at this point. Landed_titles is vanilla, etc.
definition.csv: You put in your counties and your sea zones. At the index which the engine uses for that weird additional province it creates you put your "nope" province and then all the vanilla ones are listed. But maybe those are not even read by the engine.
Then the provinces are put together and as they are vanilla they are referencing non existant numbers and sea zones. Those (broken) provinces are then referenced in the titles and landed_titles. The positions.txt - which is allowed to be empty - still is filled with distances to non existing places.
All of this might be perfectly legal but is looking - at least to me - pretty suspicious.

How do I edit the terrain file successfully? If I touch a single pixel in the file, this happens:

All I'm trying to do is add in a small strait using paint.net, although perhaps this may be the problem. I'm using the exact same colours for water and plains as in the file. I really have no idea why it refuses to work.
terrain.bmp has a specific color palette. Do you save it with its right color palette ? Easy check is to look at the map file size; if it's the exact same size as the vanilla one (4,195,380 bytes) then it must be good.

Hello everyone.
I've got a problem, second time. My mod crashes when loading graphics. First time looking on the internet, I found a solution, and it helped, I changed the size of the map.I continued to do mod, but it begin crash again, I post map here, please tell me what's wrong.
P.S. Sorry for my bad English, it is slightly edited Google translation.
P.S.2 I know, that I have many errors in province file, but it worked with it.

Same size, same colours. I'm just changing the shape of Denmark, yet when I load it in game, it still screws up the terrain.

Right so I decided to throw caution to the wind and finally learn mapping. I did a bit of adding provinces for EU3 and Rome Total War but I always tried to stay away from that terrain and topology stuff.

I decided to create myself a simple map with a flat landmass in the middle with a few lakes and two seas on either side (based on a fantasy world actually). No tree, mountains or rivers or anything for the moment. I tried to follow this tutorial as closely as possible.

However, when I load up the mod, it crashes at "Creating Trees". I know it doesn't matter where it crashes but after looking through my files again, I'm stumped. To be honest, I don't even know what I'm looking for since this is my first go. I had to use GIMP for most images and Paint.NET for the .dds. I'm also using CK2 1.08

As I said, I've a bit of Paradox modding experience but I've mostly stayed away from CK2 since every mod I wanted was made by others. I still know what I'm doing with the text files but I don't even know where the system log is (which from reading this thread seems to be helpful in pointing me to the problem)

Would anyone be able to even point me in the direction of helping myself or helping you help me?

So after a great deal of modding I have made my own map. My problem is however that the map frame is still for the vanilla 2048^2 map while mine is 3072^2. It looks very weird and Im wondering if anyone knows how to fix this. Im fairly sure its in the static.txt, but I cant figure out what number I should put there.

Comment it out.
