OK, I used the old provinces.bmp file with the new positions.txt, definition.csv, adjacencies.csv, and default.map, and the mod worked fine. I guess there is a somewhere out in the map where maybe I screwed it up. I am going to add one river province at a time and see if I can get it working.

Edit: I got it working. I must have saved the province.bmp incorrectly at some point. Also, I did not know you had to modify terrain.bmp in order for your major rivers to show properly.

The resolution of the screen, would fix this, or map size?
 
Any guides to world_normal_height.bmp creation
or any hints of using a normal map above normal size map (greater then 2048 by 2048)

Why are you replacing titles but not provinces?
For a first try with a new map I'd add replace decisions and events as well.

I have a question for the more experienced map modders:

Is it possible to "skip" map provinces and not have them on the map without causing issues? That is, they are defined as map provinces in the code, but they are not actually drawn on the map.

For instance, let's say I have a map with three provinces. Province 1 is blue, province 2 is red, and province 3 is yellow. I draw in blue and yellow on the map, but not red, thus "skipping" province 2.

Yes I think so. I currently have some "placeholder" provinces in my map so that I don't have to move around all ocean-provinces every time I add another land-province.
