Well everybody know that one of the features Aod was supposed to have was the removal of the province number cap. However I have not seen lots of people putting this feature to use. I did a small research in the forum yesterday, and only found one thread when somebody was asking about how to add those new provinces, but got no response.
So I thought I'll explain this.

First off if you're a noob in map modding, read this:

As well as the contents of the "Information folder" in the MapUtility package. I'll assume you know all of this and will only explain what changed with AoD.

1. MapExtractor: I've got some crashes with it, don't exactly know if it was an AoD-related problem or not as the software is known to lack stability. Anyway if you have trouble extracting the map, REINSTALL HOI2 and rip the map from there instead. The map itself is perfectly compatible with AoD. Well at least that worked for me.

2. Editing the map. Nothing really changes there from HoI2, apart from the fact that you can now use as much provinces as you want! Look for available IDs and their RGB values in id.csv which lists IDs up to 4000 or so - should be enough to begin with.

3. MapMaker. Here the main changes are related to the now unlimited number of provinces. Actually adding new provinces revealed to be pretty easy. Just change the province number value in settings.txt to the needed value.
For similar reasons, the adj-mod file is no longer relevant. You can still use it to remove connexions I guess, but it's much easier to make the unneeded adjacencies unpassable in the adj-def.csv file which does not require the complete remake of the map. There is no more a fixed number of connexions so just add as much as you need in adj-def.csv.
Here is a thread that tells how to add ports:

Ok well that pretty much sums it up, at that point you should have a working map. :D

does that mean you can make changes to the map of FB or expect to be able?
that would be really great!

re bestmajor: it seems that I'd better have read the most recent posts of this forum before. ;)

You mean the E3 map? Well that's the idea. One major problem of this map was the limitation to 2608 provinces - now gone.

Not only the limitation of the overall number of provinces is gone, the pre-determined fixed number of connections between all those provinces is also gone. :)

well i know that (limitations etc) - my questions was more about if sb had the skills to do that? - there arent to many map modders?

Does anybody know if there are any other programs like the MapUtility's MapExtractor? I'ld like to edit the map of Iron Cross but can't get this program to work with that map.
