Hi,

Whenever I move across the map in EU4 about every 1 second the game stutters. It is not an issue with graphics because I get the same fps and stutters with all settings off and all settings on. Same goes for lower and higher resolutions. I have been trying to find a solution to this for a while but the stutters are still there when they shouldn't be. Stutters even on speed 1 when moving across the map. The Fps is at the cap and then all of a sudden there is a really pronounced frame skip / stutter. Any help is much appreciated.

Specs:

Ryzen 7 3800x
rtx 2080ti
nvme 1tb ssd

Drivers are all up to date.

*also should add that this is not occurring in any other game I play*

Specifically CK2 and HOI4, which I see you also have? Because they are very similar to this game under the covers - really if one is affected they should all three be.

I have been trying to find a solution to this for a while
So it used to be okay up until some point?

DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/EU4/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox/EU4/logs/ folder, attach system.log .

Sorry, does this also affect CK2 and HOI4? Or not?

Will the game still run if you set it to:
refreshRate=60
fullScreen=yes
borderless=no
If so does that help at all?

And please try unloading all MSI utilities, and GeForce Experience if that is running.

Hi. Sorry to break into another persons tech support, but If a fix for this arrives please let me know. Having the same issue atm. Even worse so in duo multiplayer.

144fps fullscreen. Same
60fps fullscreen. Still same
Tried 60fps with no setting. Improvement, but slight stutter and also game looks very odd at this

No mods. No changed files. Fresh (re)install

I have a small video showing a bit of it, but cannot add to the post

Video is 144 refresh rate and all settings on

Can i get the files I asked for in post #2 please.

No clues in those files I'm afraid.

Dos this also affect HOI4, Stellaris and CK2?

Only played hoi4 recently. Both SP and MP. No stuttering or fps lag there. Only the normal player is behind ticking every now and then, but nothing like in eu4.

Stellaris is not tried and CK I don't own

CK2 is free to play on Steam now. It is the most similar game to this one under the covers.

If you are running GeForce Experience, try unloading that.

Right. So a bit later reply then normal, but that is due to trying out all games. Both with and without geforce experience installed.

So far I have this as current:

With geforce installed
EU4 - Stuttering
CK2 - Stuttering
HOI4 - Stuttering, just seems less as the game progress in hours and not days.

Without geforce installed
EU4 - Same result, same stuttering as before
CK2 - Same result, same stuttering as before
HOI4 - Same result, same stuttering as before

Seems it is something else then the games messing up and I cannot figure out what at this point. Atleast I have found out it's not just a single game. May be called progress or it may be another step back

In the Windows search box enter msconfig . Go to Boot-Advanced. If the number of processors box is ticked there, please untick it.

If that doesn't help, please install and run the free utility Speccy. Send its output to a text file and attach that here, thanks.

I'm not familiar with Norton 360 but do make sure all these games are in its exceptions list.

I see you have OneDrive running, has it perhaps grabbed the Windows User Documents folder?

A few apps and utilities in there I'm not familiar with:

EarTrumpet.exe
SteelSeriesEngine3.exe
and all those Pivot Portrait apps/utilities

Can you try unloading those and see if that helps at all?

Norton 360 has all games set to fully allowed without exceptions. So all and any files are free to do what it needs to do. Already did try to turn that off and test. No change

OneDrive might be running, but not in use at all. Has some files in, but nothing linked to any of the games. Deleted is now just incase

EarTrumpet is just a small sound bar addon to adjust sound separate for all things running. So basically I can have my sound at 75 and adjust my browser or eu4 up or down as I see fit
Steelseriesengine3 is the engine for my mouse. Just software for it
Pivot portrait is just a small software following my BenQ screens. Basically just video settings in a different program.

I will anyways to turn of all and see if it does anything

Update EU4:

Tested only EU4 due to easiest to notice there with both the stuttering and noticeable sound stutter alongside

With Norton shut down, Onedrive deleted, EarTrumpet disabled, Steelseries disabled and pivot disabled. Still the same. Stutter ever 1 day with sound stutter as before. No change. Restart after disabled

Update 2 EU4:

Tested with everything, apart from Norton, shutdown and all DLCs shut off. Just base game. Still the same issue

I just had a report from another nVidia user on a similar game, who had this until they turned off anti-aliasing - can you try that please?

Hi. Late reply due to work. Just tried turning that off.

144hz still the same issue
60hz still the same

Tested both borderless and fullscreen. No change

Starting to get tempted to ask for a remote work kind of support soon so you can see it maybe it would help get a clearer picture

EDIT: Tried 1.28.3 without AA on and the same issue is there

The other case like this I'm running here just said that the problem did not occur under 1.28.3 with AA disabled, so you two obviously have a different problem cause.

Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU)
1/ before starting the game up and
2/ after say 30 minutes' play.
If your PC's vendor has given you no way of reading temperatures, install
SPEEDFAN http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

Really, GPU only goes up by 2c? A bit surprising, but temperature is obviously not the problem here anyway.

What is, I frankly have no idea now. In Task manager - performance, are you seeing CPU, GPU or disk IO issues there when these ticks happen?
