I started a new campaign last night. When I tried to log back in today, the map appeared to be broken - all light blue. My mouse still reads different parts of the map, listing the correct geographic name of whatever it's hovering over, and as you can see in the screen shots, I still can view the toolbars and select units. I tried logging out and it appears the game itself is having issues (and not just my save) because the new game screen is showing the same visuals. Additionally, other paradox games load and work fine.

Any idea what's going on?

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-Imperator
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Imperator AND Documents/Paradox/Imperator folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add imperator.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Imperator or Documents Imperator locations, before installing again.

If that doesn't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/Imperator/pdx_settings.txt.
From your Documents/Paradox/Imperator/logs/ folder, attach system.log .

Apologies at my delay in responding. Got frustrated when I couldn't fix it and I have other paradox games that've kept me busy since. Saw a similar thread here, which reminded me to follow up: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/imperator-rome-1-3-2-keeps-crashing.1300611/

I've:

1. Deleted the folders as indicated (manually), + used steam to uninstall/reinstall + verify. Verify said everything looked fine.
2. Added imperator.exe to exception list in randsomware/windows defender + "apps allowed through"
3. Updated Nvidia drivers

When I go into game, everything is fine until I have to select a country to play (or load into the game). As I'd noted, when I get to select country screen, the whole screen is frozen from panning to India or north to Britain. Like the pane is frozen. I can click on a country that's available (and showing) and load in. That's when I get the weird visuals bug.

Side note - wondering if it might be something weird with my PC. Dealt with srt\srt.trail.txt error (issue that forced me to use windows media installation to reset my PC). However, I'd think if there was an issue with the PC, I would have trouble with other paradox games, and I don't (for what it's worth, HOI4, CK2, EU4 all run fine).

I'm not seeing how the issue in that that thread is similar to your issue here?

I'm fairly sure it is! I had another case of this a few weeks ago, got nowhere, but it magically came good for that user between one day and the next. Frankly no idea what happened to cause it or to fix it!

It only affected this game for that user too. This game is somewhat different under the covers than the older games, in part due to the new Jomini game engine in use.

I see you are in borderless mode, is windowed nay different?

Similar thread in that you'd advised firewall/windows defender/ransomeware information - but you'd commented about updating drivers there, so I figured I'd get after that as well.

Regardless - I just tried windowed mode like you said - and so far so good! Bug seems to have gone. I'm not a computer guru but that seems like a strange fix! Whatever it is, I'll take it. Going to test the game out of over the next few days and will see if that literally was the only change required :)

Appreciate your quick follow-ups, Andrew.

Please follow the steps up in post #2, thanks.
it fixed itself somehow, but now i can not lunch the game anymore. Actually i lunch it from steam and when i hit play Paradox client pops up, i hit play again and i get a little red triangle warning sign with the message " Lunching the game failed". I did try d3dcompiler_47.dll fix but no go...bought the game can not play...

That's a new issue so should really have had a new thread.

In any case, in the launcher set Display mode to Borderless.

Also if you have the MSI Gaming App installed, disable it as it clashes with this game.

I'm having the same problem as the OP now. This started yesterday - the game was working before. Other Paradox games are fine.

I've done a clean install as suggested, and the problem persists.

The game did not change overnight, of course. What change or update occurred to this computer then? A Windows or driver or antivirus update perhaps?

In your clean install did you make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Imperator or Documents Imperator locations, before installing again?

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm not sure what changed under the hood. A Windows update was installed yesterday, but that was after the problem first appeared. I added Imperator to the allowed list on Malwarebytes, but that made no difference. I did check for and remove all the files and folders before reinstalling.

I have no idea what causes this, as you can see above it seems to come then go with no obvious cause. Not really sure what else to suggest here!

I see you have multiple disk drives, can you try installing the game into a Steam library on a different drive than it is now please?

Then BEFORE you run the game, place the attached userdir.txt file in the Steam-Imperator-game folder; it tells the game to write the user files right there instead of under the Windows Documents folder.

Let's see if that helps!
