I just built a collection of relevant maps. If anyone needs reference maps for mods esp. adding more factions let me know. I plan on modding some in for personal use and may release it depending on how it looks.

If anyone wants to join up and form a team that would work too. I plan to start in Britain and Gaul, so if anyone wants to do Germania, Hispania, Dacia, Illyria, Sarmatia, or any other area let me know.

What do we know about modding the actual map yet? I haven't looked into it myself. If I'm going to try to fill the map up with factions we might as well have a full map. If someone is interested in removing the Terra incognita and filling in all the right provinces I would appreciate it. It would really be useful for the Sarmatians and possibly Scythians and Nords.

BUMP

I've checked out the map files. They all (terrain, topology, rivers, and provinces) will have to be added to in order to add more provinces. I'm really not up to it. I can't handle the small detail stuff in mapping. So I'm still looking for a volunteer for that.

I'm tagging all the provinces with there numbers. Anyone is welcome to use it. I remember having one of these for CK and it was useful. Ill put up the half finished version tonight. Maybe I can finish it tomorrow. I plan to label the rest of the provinces then put in a legend to put a name with each number.

A map with ref numbers are realy usefull!

As for modding, I decided to just restart with Caesar's diaries and take note of the more advanced people he meets and incoroprate it into the game (I have done some modding for personal use in EU2 and EU3). Ofcourse, it will be slow going but the game isn't going anywhere and could probably do with a patch or two regardless.

I'd also like to add Scythia/Sarmata and other people north of the Black Sea so some map expansion will happen. The colormap the game creates the textures from seems a bit challenging to expand (with the same high quality) but I will give it a shot

First Suggestion:

By god´s sake, eliminate the "argolis" province and divide in three, One Athica (Athenae as capital), two Corinto, and three Argos...

I'm not really sure province you're talking about, but it's probably too small to divy up. You would have to do a lot of work and redo the entire map to get larger more numerous provinces in Greece. In my opinion if you're going to redo the map Greece is the least in need of help.

If you have Paintshop or Photoshop the clone brush would help a lot with expanding the texture map. It might not look quite as good, but I imagine once it's applied to the map in-game minor imperfections will be hard to notice.

Yes but no Athica independent, no Corinth independent and no Argos independent...

That looks very promising. Maybe the mod I'm working on (added Messana) and your mod could be combined eventually once they are finished. This would mean that I do the "civilized" part of the map, while you and your team do the "barbarian" part.

That sounds good Diemen. I've got most of the planning and thinking done. I have faction names for all of Briton, Ireland, and Gaul finished. My provinces map is finished also. I've added three so far.

Planning done I'm down to figuring out file relations. I could use some info if you have it. Being taught beats the heck out of trial and error. I need to know all files I need to edit to add new factions and provinces. If you know what can be done with cultures and how to add to them along with which files reference them. I know how to do all the actual modding. It's just the file associations I need info on. Hopping from file to file reading everything making sure I don't miss and association is a pain.

/Edit I also need to know how to find the co-ordinates in game for setting up the cities, ports and other things. Any advice on those is welcome. /Edit

@ Peregrino. As stated I made the reference map for personal use. I plan to only mod the earliest start date possible so I didn't even bother with the rest. I'm surprised I only missed that few tbh.

Man this must've taken alot of time.
My thanks, those willing to put in this much effort make Paradox games, and their mods, the absolute best.

You can see more at the EUIII wiki in how to mod the map. However you can use a free program like paint.net to get the job done. Just be sure that the coordinates you use are the same as the coordinates given to you by the program (location of your cursor on the "painting") in order to do so you must first flip the provinces.bmp vertically (if you take a look at the organisation of the texture file you will understand why).

Awesome. Reference map should be stickied.

Mr_Breeze, you're a genius :) Thanks a lot for this map, very useful for modding!

Thanks for all the comments guys. I'm glad I decided to share the stuff. I didn't know everyone would find it useful.

Thanks for the info Diemen. I was assuming you had to find the co-ordinates in game for some reason. Ill check out the wiki.
