Hi fellow historybuffs

I am creating a scenario for a computer (CTP 2) game that will deal with the incursion of the Miithradates VI forces into Asia Minor and Greece. The scenario will begin with the slaughter of some 80000 Romans by Mithridates VI in Asia Minor in 88 bc and last to approx 82 bc.

I am using the wonderful game of Imperium Romanum II with the scenario Marius vs Sulla to get the basic needs in form of troop strrenght and so on. But since IRIIlimit itself to only general units such as Light Infantry, Heavy Infantry, Legions and so on I need to research of the armies of the time. I have already found many details regarding Marius, Sullas and Mithradates (Pontics) forces. What I need is how the other nation/tribes armed forces composition was.

The map will reach from the Atlantic coast in west to the Iranian Plateu in east from the deep forest of Germany and the vast plains of Ukraine in north to Sahara desert in south.

I need to get as much information as possible so that I can review all fact and include what I think is necessary to make the scenario as realistic as possible.

I need...

Whatever nations/tribes/factions that inhabited this region at the time of the scenario (88 bc - 82 bc)
Who the ruler was for those nations/tribes/factions
Any special leader/general to take into account
How many men did they/could they field
Composition of their armed forces.
Any special tactics that I should be aware of.
What special events did occur during this time.
Basic ecomics during the time of the scenario

I would be very glad for any help I can get. I have ravaged the internet for a couple of days now and my local small town library don't have much to contribute to my research.

Just point me to any site you think that can help me or if you have vast knowledge rather to give me all facts you can five.

Daniel

The most important states of the war would be Bithynia (the instigator of the war), Rhodos, Athens, and the various leagues of greek cities in Asia Minor.

You will want to consult the Threskurion website for details on the Bithynians (who are Hellenized Thracians); check the "links" page of Imperium. I believe their page on army lists contains the DBM army list for the Bithynians.

Read the lives of Sulla and Marius by Plutarch on the Internet Classics Archive (also linked from the Imperium web site). I believe that some of Mithridatus generals are mentioned there.

Sorry I don't have time for more right now.

Bit of an extensive map for the Mithridatic wars, isn't it? Especially given the limited timespan you're using, finishing before Lucullus or Pompeius Magnus get involved in the next war and push into Armenia, the country of Mithridates ally, Tigranes (mailed cavalry as the core of his army, by the way) and to the borders of Parthia's territory.

I suggest you check the Apolyton Civilisation site for the Dacian/SPQR scenario by "Hannibal ad Portas", our very own HB! Actually, he's been plugging it on another thread in this forum.

Thanx for your help guys. I will look those sites up and see if there is any advice that could be helpful.

Strategy: I do have downloaded all of those dbm Army lists. They also had the Pontics and the roman which are indeed very helpful. Bithynia is going to be included but when the scenario starts Mithradates has already conqured Bithynia along with most other Asia Minor states. I will read Plutarch work and actually I have already looked through it hastly once.

Agelastus: Well actually the scenario will be focusing on Marius, Sulla and the Romans in general as much as Mithradates and Tigranes. The romans still fought tribes on the Iberian peninsula, in the Mediterreanan pirates was plundering at will. The reason that I only want this limited timespan is that I only want to focus on the military actions of this time. There will be many oppertunities for the players to negotiate with other civilized nation as well as barbarian tribes to make more allies. If all goes well I might continue and make a scenario about the third Mithradatic war.

Well since this is a forum for the excellent game EU I don't want to talk scenario details for another game. I just need pointers as where to look for information. I have done some more research and I have all informtion I need about Marius, Sulla, Bithynia, Pontus, Parthia and Armenia. What I'm looking for now in particular are information about Seleucid empire (Syria), Aegyptus and information about the many tribes on the Iberian peninsula and the Sarmatian and Scythian tribe around the Black Sea.
