I'm playing as the Count of Kent, and I'm down to two choice for marriage, one within my own Kingdom, England and one within France. Are there any benefits/disadvantages to marry someone from France diplomacy wise? Will it make a difference in the long run?

Thanks.

Whichever one can provide you a better steward/spy master/chancellor or a better chance of inheritance is the only thing (I can recall) that you should consider, role-play aside. I often will only marry (unless I'm insignificant myself) those of a good name, and try and remain within a culture "group", that meaning if I'm English I'm willing to marry a French woman.

If the King (or whomever) has a claim on your title, even being married to his only daughter (the apple of his eye so-to-speak) would have no bearing on whether he'll eventually DOW you. Check out her siblings and family history. If there's a large group of healthy children and everyone tends to live a long life, she's more likely to have more children and pass on healthy stats. If there's few surviving siblings or she's an only child, she'll more than likely pass on poor fertility and health.

Compatible traits are another consideration. Having a wife who hates you and becomes a rival, influences tons of bad events that can play havoc with your court, your children and you.

I just finished a 20-year stint with a rival-wife who was constantly spreading rumors about me and I'm positive she was behind every bad event that hit ALL of our kids. I actually laughed out loud when a Schizo courtier killed her, the lone silver lining for that entire dark cloud of a reign. LOL

Too true, I neglected to mention traits should be a vital consideration in reality. It really depends on the needs of your dynasty, but marriages don't have the consequences they normally would in actual medieval society*, so just marry who you wish in the end.

*For example, if you marry a relative too close to yourself and a rival happens to use that to his advantage next time he (or a servant) visits Rome ;).

I think the standing of the bride affects how much prestige you get out of the marriage: the daughters or sisters of prestigious kings can get you quite a lot of prestige, whereas a random courtier will give a bit, but not enough for it to be a criteria you need to consider.

If you're marrying off other dynasty members, you get a bit of prestige too, and I think this amount is inversely proportional to how closely you're related: your children's marriages give you less than your own, your cousins' marriages even less.

I mostly look for a culture I'm happy with (for my Welsh game, I've only married my stepdaughter to a Norman, my dynasty mostly with various Celtish people, with some French and Occitan thrown in), young/about the same age, stats, and if I have the chance and especially if I'm looking for a bride/groom for myself or my direct descendants, then I try to find someone as important as possible, or actually related to someone important.

The inheritance game is usually quite hard to play, it's a lot of work trying to find heiresses (in realms with semisalic primogeniture most preferably), and you usually have to do it while they're underage, then save up a dynasty male to marry to them the moment they turn 16 (and keep watching her for this!), and even then, the proposal will very possible be declined. Would be nice if the ledger had a column stating if the potential bride's children would be eligible (say, within the first 5 or 10 people in the order of succession) for an inheritance.

It's either that, or you assassinate the heiress's/female rulers husband before they have male kids, and marry them. Although female rulers practically never accept proposals. Assassination generally makes inheritances easier.

Thanks guys, I think the biggest consideration is the traits interaction. I've ran the game with a couple of choices and that seems to have the greatest impact.
It would be nice to see some diplomatic events when you marry someone within a different culture group.
