Out of curiosity, at the "end" of the Marsgate mystery, I was given two choices:

1) Keep the Mars Rovers for myself to protect from future incursions

2) Dismantle the Rovers for resources

I chose option 1 as it wasn't clear to me whether or not the Mystery was actually over, and if there were further attacks I would want the Rovers for defense. (the way the choice was worded contextually was something like "We would be fools to be left defenseless in case something like this happens again")

However, nothing has happened for like 50 Sols, and I'm beginning to think that that choice really was the end of the Mystery, and I should have just scrapped the Rovers.

Seems like a weird thing to give players that choice when in actuality nothing else ever happens.. Was that really the end?

It was the end, the achievement pops upon that choice.

It really only has one consequence: how much clutter you have on the map. I think I captured 5-6 rovers. Since I was playing Russia, I opted to keep them. The biggest boon in that mystery is the extremely cheap research it gives. I was able to bypass the laser for meteorite defense.

You can keep them and then later scrap them if you want, they give like 10 or so electronics if I'm remembering correctly.

The nice thing about keeping them is they're free, cost no power and are mobile so you can move them to cover future expansions without needing to build lasers or turrets.

Plus its better to have mobile missile launchers and not need them, rather than need mobile missile launchers and not have them. On Mars we support the 2nd Amendment!!!!
