I was wondering if it is possible to change how the AI uses matrilineal marriages.

Is it possible that the AI will only accept matrilineal marriages for female heirs?

I think it seems weird that so many known houses go extinct because of moronic marriages.

I guess there had to be some form of it. It seems unrealistic that some houses existed for a couple thousand years without having issues about lacking a male heir.

I still think the dynasty of children should be an event based thing. So that if they stood to inherit a more powerful title from their mother's side, then they would join her dynasty. Ex. If the ruling Lady Lannister were to marry a younger son of Lord Frey, their children would still be Lannisters. But if Lady Lannister were to marry Lord Arryn, then they would be Arryns. Or maybe one would be a Lannister, and the other would be an Arryn? It seems to me that the Great Houses didn't ever inherit each other's lands.

That would be unrealistic though. Matrilineal marriages were rare historically, and never happened canonically.

The Martells have likely had just as many female rules as they have male ones, considering their egalitarian succession laws. They have most certainly used matrilineal marriages.

Indeed, given that Great Houses generally don't seem to go extinct in the books (how many thousands of years of Starks?), it seems matrilineal marriages are actually a much better fit for Westeros than they are for Vanilla CK2.

That's your opinion, still doesn't change that in the books outside of dorne, marriage are seen just like real life feodal society meaning that the children are from their father dynasty. Also people seem to forgets that asoiaf is a world with magic. Whats so unlikely that an agnatic dynasty can survive for thousands of years ? more likely than dragon for me at least ;)

That's not a solid rule though, especially in the case of the Great Houses. Look at Jon Arryn's heir in the Crowned Stag start; he's only an Arryn on his mother's side but he doesn't have his father's House because of concerns regarding dynastic continuity.

To add, in the books he's still a Hardyng, he is arryn in game so succession works. However it is implied that if he were to inherit, he'd take the Arryn name.

There's some mods out there that make it so that when lesser dynasties inherit upper titles in Westeros they take the name of the house that had traditionally ruled those lands (ie a Corbray upon inheriting the Vale would become part of the Arryn dynasty.)

Where do i find these mods and do they work with the current update?

There is a Bloodlines submod, where the major houses have a bloodline trait like "Stark" and if a half-stark takes over the North with his dynasty it switches to Stark since he's related with them. But this doesn't work for the Duchy and county level dynasties which nearly always screw up their own dynasty by marrying off their female heirs with regular marriages.
