I once managed to get dig-in 60 with CSA in Bowling green and Memphis in mid 1860's but starting the 1881 scenario (as USA) I had a cap of dig-in 40 again.

We have updated our Community Code of Conduct. Please read through the new rules for the forum that are an integral part of Paradox Interactive’s User Agreement.
Must be techs or inventions difference between 1881 and 1861 start. Need to know which troop type was entrenching and what techs and inventions you had at each time.
I checked it out now. I had engineers in the armies that were entrenched above 40. It was no bug then.
