So Drone Hubs, Rovers and Rockets have a range around which they interact with things, I was wondering if the Shuttle Hub had a similar range (albeit not visible)??

I had a single Shuttle Hub, and it seems to be doing nothing. Build a second one and suddenly they are swarming like hornets.

Any thoughts?

Shuttle hubs have an infinite range, but they need fuel to function and demands for personnel/resource transport to fulfill at that moment in order for them to launch shuttles. If they have neither they don't deploy any craft and all craft are grounded until there's a need for them.

I had a game going last week where i had built 15 shuttle hubs together and they were still flying all over the map. Realised that was a mistake. 90 small planes, 5 refineries close by to supply with fuel, 30++ drones from hub and Rover and the in need of fuel above shuttle hubs was going off all the time.
Now i build 3 shuttle hubs together and a Fuel Refinery inside a Drone Hub area. That works better but still see the in need of supplies messages. Not sure what is optimal.

You can do whatever you want it will be awful in fuel comsuption (so most importantly in water consumption). Prettu sure one fuel refinery is not enough to follow consumption of 3 shuttle hubs.

If you drop a Depot on the other side of the map, and fill it using a rover, should the shuttles go and collect the metal/Polymers?

It depends on how much fuel each shuttle uses while active. I'd say two refineries for every cluster of three shuttle hubs at the minimum and have a large depot of fuel a distance away from everything else so when the shuttles aren't flying in large numbers (or at all) there's a reserve building up that can be used for other things, like polymer production or fueled refineries (which don't actually need fuel to function, only to get the bonus the upgrade provides) but inevitably it's best to ask "how many shuttles per refinery" instead of "how many shuttle hubs per refinery" since a single hub can have anywhere from three (when first built) to ten (upgraded and filled hangar) shuttles in it and it's the shuttles that consume the fuel, not the hub itself, so your setup could have nine or thirty shuttles. Your original setup could have as many as a hundred and fifty shuttles in it, by the way.

The shuttles will only collect them if there is demand for those metal/polymers (and they can't be sourced closer?).

In general shuttles are useful for construction (as they will fill the immediate need), but unreliable/useless for supply chains.

Yeah, shuttles are great for immediate, high-volume resource transfer demands, but they prioritize these over other transport needs. They don't actually spread resources around the map (ie, if you have 500 food and 10 food depots, they won't make sure each depot has 50 from what I've seen) and only move things when and where they're needed. Unless you have enough shuttles to move everything needed to build a mega dome or wonder in 1-2 hours, don't expect them to be able to handle logistics of transporting food across the colony while you're expanding... And don't rely on them for anything other than colonist transport in areas with regular dust storms.

Yes with universal storages they do i think, like drones. Why i don't use universal storages anymore.

Are they willing to remove resources from a universal storage to put them into a specialized storage? I will admit I tried using them for supply lines, but I noticed they aren't willing to put more than 4-6 units of a resource in them once the get a few steps out... At least for me.

Would be nice if you could use Shuttles like you use transports and specify resource runs

I don't think so, they go from one universal storage to the other along their other tasks but to be confirmed, like i said i've not used a universal storage often.

they are good to help an upgrade RC rovers collecting stray metals. Move your RC rovers to cover surface metal deposits, make metal deposits, then move on one step at a time, possibly while tandem with the RC surveyors. Is there any breakthrough to have never depleted RC surveyors ?

The Shuttles is for request based transfers, either people or materials, they don't distribute goods without a demand.

Mostly I only consider them a way to move colonists between domes, trying to use them for mat distribution can break the supply chain and they are completely broken on a dust storm map.

Drones do distribute a small amount of materials between depots, but they wont fill up a depot, so you can't put a metal depo then chain uni deps+drone hubs to a metal extractor, the drones will stop putting mats in the metal depo after just a handful.
