May I have a negative Company accout?

On the strategic screen you can see your Company account. Sometimes, especially at the start of a new campaign, I have managed to get the account negative, then I am in dept. I have tried to get out of the dept as fast as possible, and nothing serious has happened yet.

At first I was afraid that no debt was allowed, and that my Company should be closed down. But it did not happen. How big a dept is allowed, and for how long may I have a dept?

Yes, one of my 1st attempts playing on hard campaign settings as Sweden. Bought too many ships in what would have otherwise been a profitable middle year. It apparently can happen to AI companies as well. Britain resigned recently in my current campaign even though they still had a fair sized fleet and over 3 million in the coffers.
