The House of Mazovia, a Polish world conquest (I hope so)

Epilog:

Well this is my first AAR and I start it at my dads place so I hope I can send the savegame to my Computer, if not I can only play every two weeks, a bit and can only post then.
Okay, this are the conditions: Very Hard/ Furious, the game is modded by me, I made a few Kingdoms (Greece, Thesallia, Traezous, Crimea, Finland, Albania).
My houserules: Don't use assasination when not deceitful etc., no marriages to female heirs in another Kingdom (like Agnes D'Aquitaine), the others see my posts in this . thread.

The Beginning
This is Wladislaw Herman Piast the Duke of Mazovia, Count of Kujawy and Plock and brother of his liege the King of Poland.
my.php

First he married Danuta Gniewosz a courtier in Wielpolska which had no parents and acceptable stats.
This is his wife:
my.php

In March 1068 their first daughter Wiaczeslawa was born, end of July 1069 their son Zbigniew was born and in June 1071 their youngest daughter Krystyna got born. Danuta also gave birth to a stillborn child on 2 September 1070, only three days after that Danuta expected Krystyna. (Not bad for a woman without parents)

The Polish - Hungarian war:

Wladislaw was collecting money and getting troops to attack his pagan neighbours in the north when his the herold of his brother, the King of Poland asked him:
Herold of Poland: "The Hungarian scum has attacked our peaceful friends in Croatia, we have to help them, the King needs your army."
Wladislaw Herman Piast: "No problem, I'll get my armor and will help my brother."
HoP: "No, we don't need you, we need your troops."
WHP: "Well okay, but make it fast. I don't want a bankrupt liege."
HoP: "You pay for your troops."
WHP: "Do I get anything therefore?"
HoP: "No."
WHP: "Can I get my troops back then?"
HoP: "No. See you next time we need your help."
WHP: "Will I ever get paid for my help?"
HoP: "No."

The King of Poland took the troops, but let them stay in their home provinces for half an year, but when the Hungarians attacked Krakowskie he used them and won. On 25th of January 1072, Boleslaw King of Poland accepted peace with Hungary for 5 $ and Hungary yield their claims on Sacz, Wladislaw lost 250 $. Not a really good peace nor a very good war.

I have to stay here, no long session, I hope I can send myself the savegame and play a bit more.

Not a very promising start of Wladyslaw Herman

But it would be better if you wouldn't use that dark green colour in your text, I can only read it when I highlight it with my mouse

For the rest I will follow this AAR

Good, I have a really nice reader. Sorry for the DarkGreen I actually changed it into Green but this was also too dark, maybe Lime is better.
Well it gets better, I have only -100$ now and had to sell my Tilefactory ( I hope this is the right name forZiegelfabrik in english), but not all my improvements as I thought. I wanted a harder game, but really thought Poland would use my troops faster instead leaving them in their homeprovinces, they could have won faster if they had used them before. I also was surprised I couldn't lead my troops, it was the first time I said yes to this question.
Edit: Oh, and thanks for showing me imageshack.

When your liege asks for your troops and you say yes, go to your treasury screen and set army maintenance to zero. That way you won't pay for it and since the troops are then AI controlled they won't suffer attrition

I should have known this, damned I lost a tilefactory for nothing.

Interesting

1.) Update: From end of 1073 to end of 1089. Characters: Wladislaw Herman Piast (WHP), Chaplain Myezko Bogoria (CMB) 1073- 1082, Chaplain Jaroslaw Halicz (CJH), Wladislaws wife Chancellor Danuta Gniewosz (CDG) 1073- 1080, Wladislaws second wife Chancellor Jolanta Adwaniec, Marshal Krystyn Dolega (MKD) 1073- 1084, Steward Danuta Poraj (SDP) since October 1082, Spymastress Wiaczeslawa Piast (SWP), (1)
I also have a form of “News”: All strange, funny and interesting stuff outside Mazovia are represented in the News from Rest of the World (NRW),

The First Crusade of Mazovia:

17. 2. 1074: Wladislaws third daughter Dobronega was born.

11. 7. 1074: CMB: “I’ve seen you getting one kid after another; you would also have bastards if there would be young women in these lands. God sees your lustfulness. It’s a sin!”
WHP: “Bah, what harm could come from it.” (2)

22. 7. 1075: Wladislaws fourth daughter Gertruda was born.

A few days later: WHP: “Kiev is at war with Hungary, it’s time to get Podlasie back.”
CDG: “Podlasie was never part of our realm.”
WHP: “Then it’s time to make it a part. Send my brother the message: ‘We have to liberate Podlasie. To war!!’”
Podlasie (which was Pagan) fell, Galich was raided and Boleslaw got Kiev for his own. (3)

Peace and Restoration:

January 1076: Time to get new forces and money.

26. 8. 1076: Gertruda died.

A long time nothing.

24. 12. 1079: Happy Christmas from God: The small Pox arrived in Plock.

15. 7. 1080: Danuta died – how could it other be – in labour.
Wladislaw Herman lost no time and married his new chancellor Jolanta Adwaniec. (4)

November 1080: Small Pox was in retreat.

12. 2. 1081: Tribe of Yatviags declared war.

13. 2. 1081: Heathens were splintered.
CJA: “My lord. The Yatviags want peace. What do you say?”
WHP: “After they declared war yesterday?”
CJA: “Yes, their King died this morning and the new wants peace.”
WHP: Marshal, how are my chances to win this war?”
MKD: “They have twice as much troop as we have.”
WHP: “Why do they want peace then? Anyway, tell them we agree.”

The second Crusade:

16. 2. 1081: Yatviags declared war (again).
War went quite well because Galindia and Scalovia used their troop only to save their own provinces so WHP could take one province after another; and the Poles helped him.

April 1081:
CJA: “Yatviags want peace again.
WHP “No, this time we fight.

24. 7. 1081: Wladislaws second son and first kid from Jolanta was born.

11.10. 1081: Scalovia was liberated and the Yatviags crushed. Now it was peaceful again.

Peace and Restoration the second:

9. 3. 1082: After the last chaplain died Jaroslaw Halicz got new chaplain.

10. 6. 1082: Vicious Slander! Wladislaw got coward.

NRW: Croatia (still allied with Poland) crushed Serbia and owns all their land plus Dyrrachion. The Pechenegs took Galaz, Constantia and Varna. Byzantion is owned by Adrianopolis, which was the real BE, but lost their title to one of their Vassals. The Seljuks own Athenai and half of Anatolia, they are at war with the new BE. Orleans is part of England since England won a war against French.

8.10. 1082: Wladislaw got a new Steward Danuta Poraj.

4. 2. 1083: Wladislaw made his eldest son Zbigniew to Count of Podlasie.

4. 3. 1083: Zbigniew died, Wladislaw inherited, got Podlasie back and got 0 Gold.

2. 4. 1083: Wladislaw got also Duke of Podlasia.

9. 9. 1083: Wladislaws fifth daughter Aldona was born.

4. 3. 1084: Wladislaws eldest daughter Wiaczeslawa got sixteen, new Spymastress (a start-intrigue of 8 plus lazy, deceitful, sceptical, coward, and ecclescatical education makes an intrigue of 14) and married the old Spymaster (a start intrigue of 10 and Flamboyant Schemer makes intrigue of 12).

24. 9. 1084: Small Pox arrived in Scalovia.
WHP: “Will that harm me?”
CJA: “Probably not, but you’ll get less gold.”
WHP: “Nooooo! Not my money, take my wife instead!”
CJA: “Hey!”
On a Scale from 0 – 200 their relations are lowered by fifty to 120.

14. 3. 1085: Wladislaws sixth daughter Beata was born.

April 1085: Wladislaw got three new courtiers, the brothers Mátyás and Deszõ Hontpázmány and their sister Czenzi. (5)

7. 5. 1085: Wiaczeslawa got a Scholarly Theologian, her intrigue is now 15.

19. 8. 1086: Boleslaw Piast, Wladislaws brother and liege, made peace with Kiev and got Galich. He now owned Kiev, Galich and Vladimir Volinski.
After that he laid claims on Pinsk, Pressburg, Sopron, Mamaros and Szekelyföld. He got no Badboy-Hit for that.

June 1087: Wladislaws second daughter Krystyna got sixteen and married Wladislaws Chaplain Jaroslaw.

October 1087: Krystyna got a depression. Probably because she had to marry a 52 years old Chaplain (her husband is older than her father.)

29. 4. 1088: Krystyna died in labour.

May 1088: Small Pox retreated in Scalovia.

13. 6. 1088: Aldona died.

13.7. 1088: Small Pox arrived in Yatviagi.

22. 7. 1089: Since Wiaczeslawas husband died on old age, she married the Chaplain, Krystynas widower.

Here ends the first update with the NRW: The old BE got the Emperor-Title back. Seljuks also conquered Hellas, Demetrios and Thesallia. Sweden took Oppland, Viken, Akerhus and Värmland from Norway. Norway’s new Capital is Faereyar. Iceland is owned by Swedish Pagans. France owns Valencia, Molina, Calatayud, Zaragoza, Albarracin, Tarragona, Barcelona and Rosello. Parts of Egypt are German (like Alexandria). Fatimids split up. The Pripet is the boundary between Poland and Cuman. Cuman gets wiped out by Peryaslavl. In a few years Peryaslavl will be able to get King of Cuman and maybe even Rus. North-eastern of Mazovia the Tribe of Lithuanians are quite strong, they took Polotsk and have twice as much troop as I have.

Footnotes:
(1): Not all speak, but maybe will in next update or are quite important for better understanding)
(2): He had no bastards, I had never a bastard event and he was not lustful. It was the first time I saw the event.
(3): He was still at war with Kiev after, I can only guess that he made peace, declared war on one of their Vassals and got war with them again.
(4) She had a quite good career from low nobility to chancellor to Duchess in less then six months.
(5): They are not more in my court now, I’m not sure why.

Update two: I write in italics when somebody thinks something.

Still Peace:
1090-1093

1090: Wladyslaws third daughter Dobronega got sixteen and a Flamboyant Schemer. Small Pox was in retreat in Yatvyagi.

1091: Dobronega Piast came to her father speaking softly: “Father I’m a good steward, let me be your new.”
“No, my current one is good enough.”

After that Dobronega started crying.
“See, your stewardship stat is only 7, my stewards is 11. You see you’ll never be good enough to be my steward.”
Dobronega cried even more.
“I’ll have to marry her away fast, she cries too much.”
A few days later Dobronega married Marshal Robert Premyslid of Bohemia a cousin of the current King.
Wiaczeslawa gave birth to a stillborn child.

1092: A noble warrior fled to Wladyslaws court. Four months later the next noble warrior fled to the court. Through a mass-scale conversion Podlasie got catholic. In October the Polish Herald ran into the castle of Plock. He shouted: “The King of Poland your nephew” he made an accent on the last word while entering the castle, “needs your troops to fight the Hungarian scum!” Wladyslaw asked calm:
“Why, does he want to take Pressburg?”
“No. They attacked our peaceful realm.”
“Okay, he shall get my men helping him. But I won’t pay for them. He’ll have to do that himself.”

1093: The Polish-Hungarian war ended with a total victory for Poland. Salamon King of Hungary yielded his claims on Cieszyn, Galich and Orava. Bartosz King of Poland got Pressburg, Sopron, Marmaros, Szekelyföld, Torki and Korsun, this were all Hungarian lands but Beretsy, he also got Orava from a Count a few days before.
Mscivoj Gryf got new Mazovian Marshal this year too.

NRW: Germany got nearly all Egypt and has a boundary with the Seljuks at Ar’ar. But their King is a Kinslayer and the realm nearly implodes. Peryaslavl got not (how I suggested) King of Cuman because they fight against Cuman, a quite big Pechenegs and Tribe of Ural. After it looked like the Reconquista would be made in a few years last update, Sevilla now was able to beat Leon-Castille (but the start-Castille is part of Navarra-Aragon) and got nearly all territories the Muslims have in 1066 in Iberia back. Sweden took Halland from Denmark. Skane got independent from Denmark. England conquered Smyrna and Kyzikos. Leon owns Maverannahr, Bukhara and Merv, these are in Transoxiana. The Seljuks now also took Alexandretta, Archa, Hama, Palmyra and Damascus. Their ally Georgia took Teluch, Aintab, Aleppo, Antioch, Tortosa and Homs.

1094: Wiaczeslawa died in labour, Wladislaw Adwaniec got new Spymaster.
Wladyslaws seventh daughter Salomea was born.

Steward Danuta of Podlasie entered the room.
“My lord, I proposed to reduce the tax in Podlasie.”
“How dare you to do something without asking me.”
“I didn’t do it yet. I wanted to ask you before, that’s why I’m here.”
“Then it’s good. How much will that cost me?”
“2, 37 Gold.”
“That’s not much.”
“And it will show that you are a pious man.” Chaplain Jaroslaw Halicz makes a step forward.
“Am I?”
“Of course you are. God liked to see you crushing the Yatvyags and converting Podlasie.”
“God or the Pope?” Jolanta Adwaniec, Wladyslaw Herman’s wife, who sat quiet next to him now asked.
“Since the Pope is the representer of God on this world, it’s quite the same. Anyway, it’s good for you.” The Chaplain answered quickly.
“He’s right, especially because it will your peasants and burghers loyalty.”
“Then do it.”
After that Wladyslaw got even more money and after one month he got the gold back.

Until 1097 really nothing happened. Wladyslaw, who gathered troops till then, now spoke to his citizens in Plock.
“The Lithuanians have pillaged our lands. They burned our homes and robbed our wives. They threatened us enough. Today is the day of revenge. It’s time to fight. To war!”
Tribe of Prussia declared war on Mazovia but made peace two months later. They stayed at war with the rest of Poland and got crushed by them.
Przemyslaw got sixteen and a grey eminence. He got chancellor.

screensave698sb.jpg

1098: Lithuanians were annexed. Wladyslaw meanwhile had to make useless courtiers Counts to loose not even more money. To this time also his daughters Beata and Salomea died. From nine kids only two were alive now. Przemyslaw Piast married Margrethe Knýtling. After the marriage Wladyslaw spoke to his son.
“My son, it’s time for you to get lands. I give you Vitebsk, West Dvina, Polotsk and Orsha.”
“Thanks dad.”
A while after Wladyslaw Herman held his next speech to his army. “Only one province to take and I am the King of Lithuania. Brave men of Mazovia, our time has come to get a Kingdom. Take Sambia and we will be free!”
So war was declared on Sambia. All worked perfect until a small man came to Wladyslaws tent. He looked southern and not really Slavonian. “Your aggressive politics may now come to an end. We will not longer let your men raid in our lands. Hungary declares war on you, you pitiable scum!”
This time the Teutonic Order also declared independence from Poland the first time.

1099: Sambia was taken. Wladyslaws grandson now became Count of Kujawy, Plock and Galindia.
Chaplain Jaroslaw approached to his liege. “My lord, you are an intelligent and pious man, we both know this would be the perfect moment to bring Sudovia the right faith.”
“That’s why we liberated it. Here is some money. Bring them our faith.”
Typhoid fever arrived in Minsk.
Spymaster Wladislaw Adwaniec: “My lord, there is a great opportunity for intrigue against your liege.
“No, this time I stay loyal. Only 479 Gold to my own Kingdom, an intrigue now could only harm my realm. And I will get it soon, without intrigue and without fighting.”
New courtiers arrived on Wladyslaws court. He made Jolanta of Galindia Chancellor, Dobrawa Jagiello Spymaster, and Kugis of Sambia Marshal.

1100: “My lord, feudalism takes root in our realm. Shall we institute it?” his new Chancellor Jolanta asked.
“Why not, do it if you want.”

1101: Wladyslaw got on a stage in Yatvyagi and spoke to them.
“Brave men…”
“And women!” shouted a female peasant.
“Oh my god, feminists in my ages, where’s my pension? Okay another try:”
“Brave men and women of Lithuania…”
A worker shouted: “Do you speak to us? Because this here is Mazovia. What is a Lithuania anyway?”
“Brave men and women of Lithuania, our time has come to…”
“I told you this is Mazovia.”
“Soldiers, kill him! Where did I stop? Oh, here. Brave men and women of Lithuania, our time has come to become independent. From this time on this Land will be known as Kingdom of Lithuania.”
Wladyslaw gave his Duke-titles away, Przemyslaw, his son, got Duke of Polotsk; Skabimir Topor Count of Podlasie got Duke of Podlasia and his grandson Ziemomysl Halicz got Duke of Mazovia.

lithuniaoctober10012jy.jpg

The Kingdom of Lithuania.

On the beginning of 1103 Wladyslaw Herman got bored. So he asked in his Court.
“Did anything interesting happen last year and how are our neighbors doing?”
His Marshal, who had to watch what the neighbor armies were doing, answered.
“Your nephew in Poland is stable, but we might have to fight them and for that we should get stronger. The Baltic Pagans in the east are weak but don’t own much land. The tribe of Livonia in the north is only a bit weaker than we are, we maybe should go on a crusade against them. But what is even more interesting is that our neighbors in the east, the Cumans who would be stronger than us, get crushed by the Hungarians, so we should fight them for two reasons. First, I don’t know when they will get weak enough to fight them, or if they ever will again. Second, we can’t let the Hungarians get strong in the east too, they are strong enough now.”
“Well then we should seize the moment and declare war too, we might take some of their provinces. To war!”
War was declared on Cuman, Hungary took Lyubech and after that Smolensk.

1104: Wladyslaw Herman took Mstislavl, Novgorod Seversky and Pronsk. In the battle of Kolomna he got wounded badly. As revenge he took Kolomna.

Wladyslaws end: The enemy army came over the Don, slow but they came. While the first fights began Wladyslaw didn’t fought with them that day. He was too weak to get up, he maybe could recover, nobody knew. His son Przemyslaw led the troops. He just killed his enemy and wanted to fight the next one when he saw the herald of his father riding as fast as possible to them. This could mean nothing good, his father had to be very sick. So he jumped on his horse, and speechless rid to his fathers tent. Przemyslaw entered the tent of his father. A bad sweated smell was in it. Przemyslaw rumped his nose and tried to not recognize it.
“My son, I’m dying.”
Przemyslaw started crying. “No you can’t! Don’t let me alone.”
“I’m old, we both know it.”
“You are not old! You have a plenty years to live.”
“You know you’re not right. Let me die in peace Give me a funeral at my fathers churchyard in Plock. But let your courtiers do that, you have to win this war.”
“Yes Father.”
Now Przemyslaw a young man was King of Lithuania. Although he had a very different personality he first did like his father and kept fighting. He took Mordvins and Khopyor and his wife in Polotsk got a daughter, he produced her before this war.

A messenger arrived at the court of Polotsk.
“My dear Countess, I have to tell you that your husband King Przemyslaw Piast is dead. He died due to his bad illness. Your Son Stanislaw is now King of Lithuania.”

So Stanislaw was sent to the Castle of Sudovia where he now was King. His mother stayed in Polotsk, she was still a Countess. This was not the best situation for Lithuania. The Cumans got quite strong again, the Hungarians made peace with Cuman and its King was only a five year old Kid, who knew nobody in his court. Przemyslaws generals swore him they would keep on fighting, no matter what happened. The new power in the state took Stanislaw’s grandmother Jolanta Awdaniec. She could, together with the Chancellor Jolanta of Galindia, make peace with the Cumans. After that Jolanta found out Lithuania was at war with the Teutonic Order, without knowing it, and made peace with them too.

In the castle of Sudovia, the Steward of Lithuania, Rycheza of Galindia spoke to Stanislaw.
“My lord, our efficiency is much too low. I support you to grant some titles. The best would be some in the west. The pagans there don’t stop to revolt, and in the east the population is Christians, although some are Orthodox this is much better to get money.”
Jolanta came out of a shadow. With a softly nice voice she said.
“Don’t listen to her. This is our home. Are we Russians or are we Poles? We will the Pagans in these regions convert soon. Who will if not we? Nobody! Only you, the mighty King of Lithuania can. Give the Russian lands to Boris Salah, he is Russian, and make him Duke of Pronsk. We have no use for him here; he will serve us there better.”
So Stanislaw, or better Jolanta, made Boris Salah Count of Kolomna, Pronsk and Novgorod Seversky; and Duke of Pronsk. Jolanta also made Stanislaw’s mother, who was Countess of Orsha, also Countess of Vitebsk and Duchess of Polotsk.

In November 1106 the nobles, which tried to give Stanislaw bad advises, sent their herald to the castle of Sudovia. He entered and said.
“My dear lord, your vassals have seen you, as a young man, are very intelligent for your age. You know it’s the best for you and your family to have an elective law. But what is even more important it is the Lithuania and that is what we all want. Or not? You know it’s the best, you know what’s right. Do the right, do the best for Lithuania."
Jolanta, who sat to the left of Stanislaw and listened carefully said calm, but with a strong voice, getting louder while speaking:
“How dare you question him, he will rule like his father and grandfather did.”
“How dare you speak woman? Let the men do their work and cook.”
“How dare you want to know what’s the best for Lithuania? Only the King can. Do you want to question the Kings actions? Get out of here!”
“But you are not the King, you’re not even the Queen. Let him speak.”
Stanislaw said with a low calm voice: “She is right. Let her talk.” And shouted: “Guards, get him out of here. And if he comes back, kill him!”
The guards grabbed the herald and while leaving the room he shouted: “This will have an afterpiece!”
Stanislaw now calm again: “We will see.”

The new chaplain showed intolerance in Jacwiez. Through that it got Catholic. Meanwhile the peasants in Sambia demanded they would have no power. Although Jolanta knew they were right she damned them to hell to keep the prestige but then gave them the power they wanted.

In February 1107 the Chaplain denounced carnal pleasures of Stanislaw, although Stanislaw was only seven to this time. Stanislaw went with it’s a sin, since he didn’t even know what that was, and this was a pious act.

1108: Exact one year later the Chaplain showed that the current Marshal was a heretic (he was Orthodox) and should convert. Since Stanislaw was a very pious kid he told the Marshal to convert or die. So Marshal Yaroslaw died.
Since Stanislaw always had a plenty of friends he got energetic.
What a strange coincidence the Chaplain Wladislaw of Lithuania got new Marshal.
The Pagans in Sambia got crushed and it converted to Catholicism.

1109: In December Konrád Guthkeled, the only guy in Polish succession line that was in front of Stanislaw, slipped in his Bathtub and fell on a sharp object.

1110-1112 nothing happened.

In June 1113 Stanislaw paid 1000 gold for getting an intrigue of 8.

1113-1115 no Event happened, Stanislaw was just gathering troops for the crusade he wanted to go on when he was sixteen.

1116: In March Zhmud got Catholic. In July Stanislaw got sixteen, he finished his education and became a grey eminence.
In October Stanislaw spoke to his Chancellor: “We were peaceful long enough. Today it’s time for war. Send this letter to Memel: ‘Your aggressive politics against us is a permanent threat for the peasants of Lithuania. For the peace of Lithuania I will have to crush your Pagan cult. Even your pact with the devil will not help you anymore. My warriors fight with god they will bring you the right faith. We now have war!’”
“Yes, my lord”
In November they arrived in Memel, Chancellor Jolanta, who waited on the boundary for them, gave Stanislaw a message.
Stanislaw opened the message, it was in a quite bad polish, but readable, this is the English version:
“Der King Lituna of, we never tretend yu, we don’t want war, so ur anser is: ‘No’ pleze let us live in peze.”
“How dare they think this was a suggestion!”
The war ran quite well, the troops from Memel were crushed fast.

1117: In January Memel was taken and Stanislaw who got bored of this weak enemy attacked the Pagan neighbor of Memel in the north, the tribe of Kurs, he just let his Chancellor make a copy of the message he sent to Memel and send that to Kurs. In April Kurs was taken.
A herald of the Teutonic Order arrived at the Lithuanian camp, now at the boundary between Zemigalians and Kurs. “Give us Memel, it is gods will!” he shouted while entering Stanislaw’s tent.
“I thought you would have Marienburg, so what are you doing here.”
“Not longer anymore, your cousin has wiped them out three times.” Stanislaw’s Marshal said.
Stanislaw started laughing.
“He is right to do that.”
“Now give us our land!” the herald got a bit aggressive.
“It’s not your land.”

“No, but it is also not your land. It is the land of god. And it is gods will to give it us.”
“How do you want to know what god wants? You wouldn’t even understand him, nemci! Get out of here or die! If you want land ask Poland.”

In the battle of Zemigalians Stanislaw could only win because he got help from his troops from Aukshatys.
At the end of the year, Marshal Bolko of Lithuania ran to Stanislaw’s tent.
“My lord, the tribe of Livonia have declared war on us, what shall we do now?”
“This is great news. So we don’t have to declare war. This sounds even better if we just wipe them out as defender. They would have been the next in this crusade anyway.”

The crusade lasted until 1120. Here he stopped crusading. He crushed Memel, Kurs, Livonia, the Estonians and Karelia (which was in Novgorod) on his way. He granted Livs, Dorpat and Reval to his Chaplain and made him Archbishop. Jan of Lithuania got Count of Pskov and Velikie Luki; and Duke of Pskov. Bryachaslav of Kasogs (what does he do in Lithuania?) got Count of Narva and Duke of Estonia. Mscivoj Jagiello was granted the titles Count of Torzhok, Vodi, Kexholm, Novgorod, Stary Russa and Bezhentsky Verh; and Duke of Novgorod. And Piotr Vsevolodovich got Count of Chud.

Lithuania after the crusade.

thebride8za.jpg

This is Stanislaw's bride. He married her before but I was to busy fighting til now.

In July the Chaplain came together with a herald of the Pope and brought great news.
“My lord, the Pope saw your pious acts. He know what you did for the Church, you brought the right faith to the Baltic. And you always lived a faithful live. Therefore the Pope gives you the power to fight the wrong and heretics in Christianity.”
“These are really great news!”
The herald of the Pope gave him a small golden Cross that was attached on a chain. Stanislaw took it over his neck. “Oh, and if you could help us get Rome back from Naples we would be very thankful.” the herald said and got now out of his castle while Stanislaw’s Chaplain stayed.
“How much power will this give me?” Stanislaw asked.
“Now it will give you no power since the Pope is very weak and has not enough influence to ban anybody from the Church, it would have no effect.”
“That’s bad. And when will it give me power.”
“This could take a long time since the guys that will probably get next Popes have even less influence. But it can give you power against Orders like the Teutonic. And you are now even more prestigious than you were before.”

In 1122 Stanislaw’s second daughter, after his first child Matylda, Swinislawa was born. He now also took the cross and got a crusader.

Until January 1125 nothing happened.
Stanislaw entered the castle of Lettigalians. If you could call it castle. It was more a hill fort. He remembered giving this County to his old Chaplain and now Archbishop of Livonia. But now the Teutonic Order was in this County.
“What are you doing here?” the herald of the Teutonic Order asked, it was the same that asked for Memel before.
“The question is not what I am doing here but what you do here.”
“This is our land. It was gods will.”
“I told you, you wouldn’t understand him, némec.”
“Maybe I would not. But the Pope does, and he told us to convert the heathens here.”
“That is my occupation. And I am the representer of the Pope here. See this.” Stanislaw took out the Chain he got from the Pope’s herald. A golden cross was fixed at it. The German could remember it he saw it a long time ago at the neck of Matilda of Canossa. It was a sign of the Pope.
“You have two chances. Get my vassal and nothing will happen to you. Or do not and die.”
So the Teutonic Order got a vassal of Lithuania.

The Teutonic-Lithuanian Agreement.

Here ends the second Update. I first thought of making a NRW now. But if nobody likes it, it is just to much work for nothing. Tell me if you liked it.

Update three:

1125: Stanislaw was very concentrated on the north since he just had to crush the tribe of Bjarmia to get King of Novgorod. But in November his Chancellor came to him.
“My lord, we found out that you have an ancient claim on the province Kiev.”
“Kiev you say? Is that Poland or Hungary?”
“It is part of Poland.”
“Aw, I hoped it would be Hungary. I don’t like Hungary.”
“Nobody really does.” The chaplain, who had entered the room a few minutes ago, said.
“An open war against Hungary would be okay. But the Poles, I can’t declare war on my family.”
“Then kill their King.” The Chaplain said.
“You mean an assassination?” Stanislaw asked very surprised “This would be a not very pious act.”
“See, if you kill him before he gets kids you will get King of Poland and the power to crush the infidels in Cuman. They lived long enough. And so did the Polish King. And you’ll get your war against Hungary; Poland is at war with them.”
So Stanislaw decided to kill his relative. But only if he could get a son. Otherwise the male line of the Piasts would die out. And that was the last thing he wanted.

The claim.

I changed the CoA here because I really like this one.

1126: Thieves were spreading everywhere since Stanislaw’s old Steward died and the new one was incompetent, (but still the best) Stanislaw had a really hard time to keep the power in his realm.
The hill fort in Sudovia got improved to a small castle. The architect told Stanislaw it would take two and a half years.
In April Stanislaw’s first son Dobieslaw was born.
Stanislaw was a very pious man so he let his first daughter Matylda get her education in a monastery.

areallybadsteward3ce.jpg

Such a big realm and this is the best steward in it.

dobieslawpiast5fk.jpg

Dobieslaw Piast.

1127: The King of Poland, Mikolaj Piast, died due mysterious circumstances. What a strange coincidence Stanislaw got new King of Poland.
A herald arrived at Pressburg.
“This message is from my liege, Stanislaw Piast, King of Lithuania and Poland.” He took the message and read loud.
“You might be able to win your war against Mikolaj, this idiot. But now your end is near. Surrender or die”

1128: The war against Hungary went quite well and in January a peace a made. This was the total victory for Lithuania. The King of Hungary yielded all his claims and Lithuania got Beretsy, Pressburg and Gemer, which were all his personal lands.

lpafterthehungarianwar5nn.jpg

Lithuania-Poland after the peace with Hungary.

Stanislaw then granted all useless lands. Although he knew he would miss his Chaplain, who he liked very much, he recognized his Chaplains acts and made his Chaplain Jaroslaw to the Archbishop of Courland.

1128: Marshal Mscivoj died due to old age. Stanislaw now had no man in his court.
A young man arrived in Sudovia. He certainly was a noble, but no a Count. Maybe a second son of a Duke.He didn't look very strong and hadn't even a sword. The last really irritated Stanislaw since he thought every men and also most women would do this.
"Sire, you know your family has a very great history. I am writer and quite famous in your realm. I could write your family chronicles." Stanislaw now started to remember. He saw this guy before. He was one of his vassal's son. In the new polish lands he got. Although the man's brother, the Count of Korsun, was a great general he decided to learn at a monastery.
"Of course I would like you to write my families chronicles."
"This will cost you 150 gold."
"Today all is so expensive! You guys always think your King is a paymachine, don't you? Oh, and here's your gold."

afamouswriter8hs.jpg

A famous writer.

Sidenote: He married a southslavic who was daughter of a irish man and a scottish woman who lived in Urgell. Both had no southslavic blood. Not even slavic. And were never in a slavic country.

Stanislaw now started to build everywhere he could.
He then paid more than 650 gold just for getting a marshal.
He also paid for the wealth of Galich, which recovered completly and got one of his richest provinces.
The castle of Sudovia, his realm's capitol, was built.

In 1129 Stanislaw just built to higher his income.

1130: Stanislaw got his third daughter, who was named after her mother Yolande.
The orthodox heretics in Kiev got catholic.
Dobieslaw, who was the son of the eldest daughter of the Duke of Brittany, inherited in these Duchy. He was only four years old so Stanislaw was very concerned about him dieing in this country far away. He also could be to weak to fight the english, who already took most of Brittany.
In October Stanislaw's old Chaplain and friend Waclaw of Sudovia, the Archbishop of Courland, rid into his old hometown.
"Sire, the King of Naples has taken the Pope's lands and calls himself King of Papal State." Waclaw wheezed. He came as fast as possible. Stanislaw mentioned the first time how old his mentor was.
"He really did? How could the Emperor let him?"
"He couldn't. He still fights the French. And it doesn't seem he will win fast."
"Get your armour and call up for my men. We will liberate Rome."
"Sorry, but you can't. You are a very respected person, but you can't attack Rome directly. You just can't claim it."
"Then we should excommunicate the scum!"
"Only the Pope can. And nobody has seen him since he lost his lands. Some say they have arrested him."

So the situation for Stanislaw was bad. He lost his powers as controller of the Pope and even couldn't take it back.

naples1sv.jpg

This is Naples.

thepope2st.jpg

And this is it's King.

“My lord, the Pope asks you if you would grant an itinerant bishop a place in your court.”
“Which Pope, the right one or the King of Papal States?”
“The right. He has sent the message before he got attacked.”
“Well, of course I would.”
A man entered the castle.
“What’s your name, bishop?” Stanislaw was in fact irritated that it took the messenger to come here, but he maybe just had to find the bishop.
“Waclaw of Sudovia.”
“You are certainly not the Waclaw of Sudovia I know, but this guy was a very nice person, so why shouldn’t you be? Oh, and can you administer a realm?”
“Yes I can, at least in some Duchies I did and was quite good in it.”
“I’ll give it a try. You have one chance. If you manage the realm this year better than my current steward did last year, you’ll be my next steward.”

1130: It’s always hard to lose a child. So was it with Swiatoslawa who died in August. She was just one year old.
At least in the same year Stanislaw’s second son Zbigniew was born.

1131: A messenger arrived at Stanislaw’s castle.
“A Pope, there’s a pope again!”
“So he could escape from his prison in Napoli and come back to Rome?”
“No, I’m very sorry, but what I know he died in prison some time ago.”
“So the new certainly wants his chain back. Here is it.” Stanislaw took out the chain with the golden cross on it.
“No. You are still the most pious man in the entire world. And due to that you control, more or less, the Pope.”
“Thank you. And thank god I don’t have to fight to liberate Rome. I still have enough problems here.”
“He certainly will tell about his war with Hungary, as he always does.” The man thought and said “I hope we will meet again.”
“Just a last question. Why did the King of Naples give Rome back?”
“He still is a Christ. He doesn’t want to burn in hell, just for a stupid dispute.”
The man left the room. Stanislaw stayed. He still asked himself why the King of Naples did this. And if he would when asked, make an independent Pope.

The papacy returns.
thepapacyreturns27wp.jpg

In November Dobieslaw died and through that Stanislaw got new Duke of Brittany, or better what was left of it. He gave his bretonian lands to his new vassal Roger of Porhoet and made these guy Duke.

brittany3jy.jpg

Dobieslaw died.

1132: Stanislaw himself rid to Vladimir Volynsky, the capitol of the Duke of Sandomierz, who still was independent. He got it before Stanislaw inherited the polish throne.
“Duke, you were an enemy of the old King. But today I come in peace. I offer you my friendship. Get my vassal and nothing will harm you. But if you don’t you should start to fear me.”
“I would be delighted to.”

1133: Stanislaw was concerned the Hungarians could get strong again since they took Byzantion in a war against Edessa they would certainly win. It’s was time to show them who the real Emperor of the East was, to show them his power. So he declared war.

1134: The herald of the new Pope, who was Archbishop of Krakow and Stanislaw’s vassal before, asked:
“Would you agree with a crusade against Jerusalem?”
“Of course I would, just let me crush Hungary before.”

The Pope asked for the Truce of god in Stanislaw’s war against Belgorod. Of course he accepted he never wanted war with them.

In June 1135, one month after Stanislaw won his war against Hungary; a quite old man came to Sudovia.
“Pater, what are you doing here?” Stanislaw got on his knees; he knew the Pope was standing in front of him.
“I’m not Pope anymore, so call me Fortunato, like you did before I got.”
“You’re not, what happened?”
“The King of Naples has attacked Rome and Rome fell, I could escape some days before.”
“Again? Then we should fight them.”
“No. No wars anymore. Enough blood was shed. I just want peace now.”
“You’ll get your peace. I’ll give you Smolensk. But I don’t like to hear the Papacy has fallen to this scum again.”

The Papacy got wiped out again.

First: Saxony is harder.
Second: I did sometimes what I call powerplay, the crusade against the baltic which made me much stronger was against my houserules (I attacked more than five pagan countries in one or two years.) but I had to because the Cumans are very powerful (about 50.000 men).

I just want to say I made some new Kingdoms while playing (Northern Isles, Novgorod) and here is a explonation of the screenshot I made before:

EDIT: Lubusz is Hungarian, not like in the picture shown, Burgundian.

Matylda got sixteen and married the steward Waclaw of Sudovia. She also got next chancellor.

1137:Yolande gave birth to a stillborn child.

1138: Swinislawa got sixteen and an indricate webweaver. She married Ziemowit Jagiello, a noble warrior that got onto Stanislaw's court for 900 gold, which was not much for Stanislaw now, and got steward while her husband got marshal. Because Swinislawa was also quite a good steward, Waclaw could get chaplain like he should as only bishop in the court.

1139: In April county of Orava revolted against its liege Slowakia but could esily get cruhed. In August Stanislaws mother Magrethe, duchess of Polotsk died. He wasn't very sad since he hadn't seen her for ten years. The last time he really talked to her was when he was five.

Until 1143 only a few nobles revolted, most in Novgorod. Stanislaw was able to keep the realm stable. No wars for this time, only against some counts in Novgorod, but although he knew about he let the Russians there solve their problems. He wanted to stay in peace at least until his son would have a wife and could get kids, to be sure his dynasty wouldn't die out, even if he died in battle. But in October his Chaplain asked.
"My lord, the peasants complain the jews would take all their money, the burghers say they would be bad for their work. They want to expel the jews. Shall we?"
"Only because the nemci do we don't have to! We Poles are tolerant, let them stay."

Until 1145 also nothing happened, so in January Stanislaw could let ohis chaplain Waclaw make a map of whole Europe. In August the map was completed.

The map was cut into 6 pieces to better show the specific area.
