I wonder if we would have to wait until CK4 to have - on release - qurultais, parliaments, cortes, and the Roman senates. Finally — let's get back to my biggest pet-peave of the entire dev diary series — the use of the term qurultai as the term for the Mongol council. Put simply, a qurultai is gathering to elect a leader or plan a war — not a set governing council. To give an American analogy, it is like calling the President’s cabinet “The Electoral College.”
This is wrong. There are plenty of instances where the Senate did act like this, like refusing to ratify Andronikos I Komnenos proscription list or Alexios III Alamanikon tax. Also they elected Kanabos as emperor during the 1204 events.Adding the acclamation of Anastasius too.But then, neither the medieval magnates of old Rome nor the senators of New Rome acted like their senate was a parliament.
I feel like there are harder lines between sovereign and parliament that the sovereign could not just push through just b/c he felt secure enough in his power. While Roman Emperors, when they felt secure or necessary, could force down things the senate didn't like - such as Alexios Komnenos seizing land from senators en masse to fund his wars. I can't imagine Kings of England pulling this off and still reign for three decades. This is wrong. There are plenty of instances where the Senate did act like this, like refusing to ratify Andronikos I Komnenos proscription list or Alexios III Alamanikon tax. Also they elected Kanabos as emperor during the 1204 events.Adding the acclamation of Anastasius too.
