While true, I (don't know what Damocles was talking about, I didn't read the post) wasn't even talking about that time period - France didn't really crush Spain until Napoleonic times.

That time period wasn't reached in their game, but there was certainly no indication that France in MGC3 would come close to what Napoleon did, or even try.

Obviously you doubt Damocles ability. He had France far more powerful than Napoleonic France. He makes very good uses of his resources so with him controlling the most powerful nation on earth France was especially deadly.

Actually I don't doubt Damocles' ability at all, I am sure he is a very capable player. I do however doubt his character, which I don't respect much.

That is all besides the point. All I stated is that France clearly didn't do enough to win the game, even though they might have been capable of winning it. In order to come close to what France did in RL, he would have to decisively defeat Spain.

I doubt your intellectual capacity and powers of observation, so we're even.

RL, France invaded the shattered pathetic shell of a Spain and got forced out by the high revolt risk. Not to mention, France was eventually manhandled into submission after losing a puny 600,000 troops to attrition. Furthermore, France lost to the combined manpower of /England/ and Prussia. A couple of weaklings.

There is nothing wrong with being unbelievably cunning, cruel, and calculating in EU. Damocles manhandled me once as Bradenburg when I was Poland. He took advantage of my secure feeling and invaded me gaining an easy 100% victory. Now I was pretty mad since we were allies shortly before and earlier when he was in a state of constant warfare do to BB I helped him greatly by just asking him where he wanted help and I would send huge armies to aid him wherever. This resulted in large inflation and my economy suffered. Even when he was at peace he granted me military access so I could quell his many nationalist revolts. After I left our alliance because I just couldn't keep up anymore and my economy wasn't looking good the last thing I expected was him becoming an enemy, but next thing I know he is demanding provinces and I helplessly watched as my empire went ablaze. I was pretty angry at him, but I now realize that he is just skilled not a bad person.

*chuckle*

You forget Chilli, that the sole reason I attacked you was that after you left our alliance, you took advantage of me being in a BB war (admittedly, I was expanding like crazy to make a Brandenburg a force to be reckoned with against a big France, a Spain that had annexed all of Italy, a sizable Austria and Ottoman Empire/Russia.)

You begin demanding a couple core provs from me and were sounding kind of condenscending, since at the time, you thought Brandenburg was still pretty weak (After all the help I needed against the 20 AI coalitions).

Lucky for me however, by the end of that war there was no AI left bordering me to declare war!

So after I barely fought you off, I had a period of peace to build a whole lot of cavalry to take vengeance :D.

BTW, from what I've heard, you've become rather good since that game. ;)

He is. Although, i mean, Basrah?For what?:D

I didnt demand any provs from you when i dowed you I just got like 100 gold hehe. In the 2nd war, When you almost had a 100% vicotry I made ridiculous demands though maybe thats what your thinking of. I was just messing around as it wasn't a very serious game :).

As for you Maur, The Persian flag will be raised above Basrah soon enough :).

Again, I don't doubt this at all. The only reason I doubt his character is because he seems to be quite insecure, and takes every opportunity to either tout his own horn (which I'm sure deserves to be touted, but not by him), and to blame his problems on others. I'm sure he is the finest player every to play EU, as I'm sure he won't hesitate to tell you. I've never played him, so I wouldn't know.

What I do know is that he did nothing in MGC3 that showed anything special (other than perhaps is beating up on Austria). Spain seemed pretty clearly to be the winner in all capacity other than total military strength at the end.

Spain is an economic powerhouse. They win through peace and diplomacy. France is a military power-house, they win through conquest.

In order for France to in any way win the game, they have to decisively defeat Spain, and France in that game obiously didn't do that.

My comments about Damocles' character might have been slightly out of line, but any time this issue is discussed he likes to thump his chest and stridently talk about how good he is.

My entire point is that for France to win, they must use their strength's more effectively than Spain does. It doesn't matter that Spain and France are allied - both countries can't win the game. A French/Spanish alliance benefits Spain far more than France, since by default they are going to win the game.

Finally this thread will come to an end.:)
BIB did really impressive job with Holland and Ulver created an economically stong Spain while France hold Europe in check due to his manpower. No sense in discussing who won as you didn´t finish the game.
