Looking at the new Paradox game and DLC announcement as an Imperator gamer is like being single on St. Valentine's day...

Such a darn same this game will never see new content.

Imperator in current version is surprisingly nice to play, CK3 and Vic3 however...
Hey, Vic3 1.2 is looking amazing, and CK3 is quite enjoyable, frequent CTDs aside...

I really wonder if some I:R DLCs could justify reviving the project, even if only a very small team is brought to work on it. Just seeing it get bug fixes and flavorful features would be enough for me.

It is unfortunate that very few people know how good imperator really is.
Maybe as a last resort they could make it free to play and see if player number would increase (as many have suggested). As it stands I don't think they could expect more than a few k Euro of sales for the foreseeable future.

I can compare it only to EU IV (I consider the CK franchise something quite different).
Imho vs EU IV the points that are worst are:
- Diplomacy (I suppose that this is something that could be fixed relatively easily).
- Trade.
- AI behaviour (seems that the AI is more competent in EU, I don't know if it is just me).
The better are
- Economy and overall city and civ development. It seems that you have a lot more things to do in peace time and cities grow more dynamically. This is a massive plus for me.
- Usage of characters in the game. Even if basic vs CK there are still a lot better than what EU IV has (ruler, husband or wife and primary heir).
- The dreaded mana. Actually for me mana is not inherently bad. It is just the way that is generated I find very frustrating in EU IV. In Imperator the PI is produced by a full cabinet of characters. Sometimes you need to juggle around and it might not be optimal to have the characters that would produce the most PI. Also characters stats improve and change whiles keeping influential characters and families happy could also make you carry favours. All this translates to EU in "now you have a 6/6/6 characters ruling your glorious nation, hurray for you. You are expected to have a golden 20 to 30 years or you have a 0/0/0 King... good luck with that". There is not much you can do (very RNG imho). I even preferred playing democracies as in EU i usually ended up with a string of 1/0/2 or 3/0/0 characters somehow...:p

I am not even mentioning the graphs that are better in IR as it is only fair since EU is a dated game or the content since there time has worked in favor of EU.
We will never know but I think that the IR flaws seemed like things that would have been worked with down the line. At the point we are at EU development I don't expect such large changes. Hopefully some will make it in EU V though (I might be one of the few but I am looking forward to it).

At least IR isn't forgotten completely - even Paradox has it still clearly on its internal radars. I stumbled over a currently running survey for the perception of and experience with Vic3 (link can found in this post https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...s-after-release.1555758/page-22#post-28827277 ) and much to my surprise I was even able to select Imperator as my favorite of the GSG family - which it is still, even if I have recently spend more playing time with its siblings :)

Nice find!
I also did my part and marked imperator as my favorite of recent PDX games. Of course I also wrote the obligatory comment of wanting development to resume.

On a side note in the main PDX reddit I have seen a recent thread (one of the many that pop up) with the same subject mote or less. Rate paradox GSG titles. It seems that they are quite a lot users that really enjoy imperator and put it high or even mark it as number 1. On the other hand there are also a lot that do not rank it since they have not played it. I really wish PDX could take note of the fact that imperator often receives high praises.

For me it was relatively easy what I would choose, there can be only one right answer anyway...
