I hear that HoI 2 wont use up more than 2 GB of memory at a time, and this means that games are almost un-finishable because of the laggage you get later on. I'm at 1940, in that Abyss scenario, and the fastest speed i can use now is below normal to not get the lag.

Is there any way i can force HoI2 to take the rest of the 6 GB of memory into use, or is this a lost cause?

Game slowdowns are caused by increased load to the CPU (from hundreds of units and AI decisions) rather then of memory lack. Once I had a game on DD:Arma from 1936 to 1964 without reloading and the game used about 800MB at most out of 1GB in total on my PC so I doubt that unmodified HOI needs more then 1GB of RAM.

Save/quit/reload could increase your game speed for couple of game months, but what you really need in order to play late games with high speeds is more CPU power.
