I completed act 1 by conquering virconium as old faith/tyrant. The merlin returns quest didnt activate. It is now some time later, and act three has triggered (Dagonet and the vision finished) with no merlin returns...

Can this be fixed, or do I haev to restart the campaign?

Thanks for any help!

The patch will be released in a couple of weeks. You don’t have to restart your game from the beginning but it’s worth to wait for the patch and to reload a savegame right after you conquered your first Stronghold because Merlin returns is an important Objective in the game.

Just a general note. If you conquer Wales after (or even before) you conquer Virconium, the quest will never activate. I actually restarted my ongoing game, because I messed it up this way... :)

Hi, I just bought the collector edition yesterday on Steam. Right now I'm about to conquer Virconium so I would like to ask is this bug now resolved?

@vandewusel: do you mean I should just wait until I'm done with this quest before hitting Wales?

Yes, definitely! Conquer Virconium and then start conquering to the east. The Return of Merlin quest and tthe Wrath of Caradoc quests will trigger simultaneously, allowing you to choose the Christian or Old Faith way. However, if Wales is already taken, only the Wrath quest will trigger.

We are now two months later and no fix for this annoyance. What's going on?

To the rest of you, do you know of ways to fire the Merlin quest when going for London - or for that matter things you shouldn't do that prevents it from firing?
Thanks

This is still bugged, seems like a pretty big error to leave unfixed for so long. This was my first time playing through the game so I didn't even know something was wrong until I had spent many more hours playing (blindly mostly since only a few other quests triggered).

For the record I still haven't touched the welsh or saxton areas, so it's not because I messed it up.

Do you still need steam to get the most recent patch?

If you are using steam, I fixed my issue with the quest not appearing by maneuvering my army east of virconium though not venturing too far north. I can't recall the exact location because it was while ago.

I have the steam collection, so my version is patched.

After reading this thread and others yesterday and figuring out why my story wasn't advancing at all and what those quests I was missing were, I figured if I attacked the other trigger city it might pop, and it did. So if you hit Virconium you have to then move east and take London too in order for the story to move on. So I finally started chapter 2... at turn 130. I had been trying to avoid war with anyone though because I had been assuming those quests I wasn't getting were going to be like the earlier quests which told me when and who to go to war with based on alliances and whatnot, so this isn't something I would have ever figured out on my own. It's still a nasty bug and it still needs to be patched.

just bought the game on steam so it's patched to the latest version available (I assume?)

Experiencing the same problem, if you take Virconium, the rest of the quest does not trigger. Will try and see if taking London helps at all and report later.
Between this bug and the frequent crashes mid-battle, whilst the concept is great, the technical state of a 3-year old game (!) is an absolute disgrace.

Not happy at all and will not buy another neocore game (definitely not KA2) unless they improve their QA significantly. Would be much more upset if I had paid full price.

In the Merlin returns quest you can assist the king of Wales (King Ryons) against the Saxons, so if you attack King Ryons before the quest, Merlin returns will never trigger. If you follow the Old Faith it is wise not to attack King Ryons because of the best game experience but you can finish the Campaign without these quests.

I'm guessing from that response that we'll see no further bug fixes for the game, which I guess is understandable as it you can complete it as long as you avoid doing certain things and KA II is taking up all Neocore's time.

With that in mind, does anyone know how to edit the hero portraits?

One very simple thing that bugs me absolutely disproportionately is that one of the portraits for Sir Bors and Sir Damas are swapped so each has the others. I bet there's just one file that needs a simple edit, and I'd love to know how to do it so that every time I use my absolute juggernaut of Sir Bors, I don't wince at Sir Damas' portrait sitting in the top left corner of the screen.

Just a little thing but it would mean a lot!
