Honestly, who cares about bots when there is so much else to work on. You guys have your work cut out for you. Bots are basically a demo mode. You can try the game offline, so you get how it works before going online. The point of the game is to bring people together... not to repeatedly play with bots. The fun is in the teamwork, the cleverness of the DM, and the fun of playing different roles with the same group.

Things that are clearly more important than bots:
1) Stability and fixes.
2) Improved/Additional rewards
3) More levels and options. (like the ability to DM any level).

and so on and so forth.

I see a lot of complaining about the AI in this game, but as you can see from the following screenshot the bot clearly carried us to victory against the lumberjack boss on impossible.

First things first; CONNECTION ISSUES! (I want to be able to connect, dammit!)

Bug fixing > bots

they work, they're not brilliant, and most importantly they're not the attraction of this game. Multiplayer is.

It's not very fun when I get friends to buy this game, and *none* of us can connect to each other regardless of port forwarding or other juju.

(and I see from previous posts in this thread and others that I am not the only one struggling with this...)

No offense, but how can the bots serve as practice/learning tools? They behave nothing like human partners, they don't even use all their abilities or gear and you can't configure them at all. I know you guys spent the bare minimum time on the AI because you're targeting the multiplayer demographic (fair enough), but please do me a favor and do the following:

a) Stop Steam from adding the 'Singleplayer' tag to this game, because there is no such thing in this game. You just admitted that the only function bots serve is as a bare bones tutorial. Atm that 'Singleplayer' tag is highly, highly misleading.
b) Stop bots from using up lives when they die. You haven't given them the AI to cope with your levels, so stop penalizing the player for the fact that you don't consider functional AI a priority. Your 'learning tools' get themselves killed the moment you leave them alone for 10 seconds.

Thank you for reading this, and congratulations on creating a very interesting game.
If they're going to do this, they should nerf the reward or coins collected. It would make the grinding far too easy and uninteresting.

Bots work ok as placeholder teammates as they are now. Would be nice if they would use potions or powers, but not a priority in my perspective.

I would much rather see the latency issues and random game crashes fixed so that multiplayer can be stable (offline or online...). Network issues should be the priority to get multiplayer working, otherwise people may slowly start giving up on this great game.

I'm in agreement on AI bots, I don't think any time needs to be spent on them.

As long as your insisting it's a multiplayer game though... the matchmaking is barely functional. I have to restart the game constantly because it bugs, showing me in a game with a dozen people whos nameplates all stack on top of each other and the frame rate drops to nothing. It's not like this happens now and again. This happens more often than not, to the point where actually getting a functional game takes several tries.

When you do get into a game, it's clear not a lot of time was spent on balance. The ducks with a spin that is the radius of an entire hallway, lasts longer than heros can chain dodge for, and moves faster than heroes, as an example. They are 'balanced' by starting asleep, except if you possess them that doesn't matter, something that is obvious with a single play test.

Heroes basically never win. Now I know people say heroes just don't do enough teamwork, but why do you need perfect teammwork with voice coms to beat a game on very easy?

So yes, I don't think AI bots are the problem and I don't think you should spend any effort on them. Focus on the multiplayer because I feel you still have a lot of work to do. I think this game has a lot of promise but right it's clear it's unfinished.

I think different from the majority it seems: I did not (and do not intend to soon) play this game online with the possible exception that I gather some friends that buy the game as well. Since none of mine own the game atm, I personally am very dependant on bots. Since: better bots -> better singleplayer.
Thanks for listening :)

I appreciate I'm just adding one more agreement to everything that's already been said, but for me bots really are not the biggest issue right now. I'm glad you guys are actually willing to go to the forums and ask though.

For me, the netcode is the biggest thing. I've been watching this game for a while, didn't play beta but I was straight on it the moment it came out and I really want to love it, but the netcode for me is hammering the experience pretty hard at the moment. I'm willing to stick around for a long time as long as pretty much:
a) Netcode is improved and a better multiplayer experience is constantly worked towards
b) More stuff! The initial set of things is great for now don't get me wrong, but as the game gets older I'd love to see it get some attention with extra perks, potions, cosmetics, and all sorts...but I'm almost certain this kind of thing is in the works anyways
c) Give players the ability to be the dungeon maestro but not have to be the host, by making it a slot in the lobby players can switch to. I don't suffer from this personally but I can imagine it being upsetting wanting to play as the dungeon maestro but not being able to host on your connection.

Getting a smooth multiplayer experience is BY FAR my biggest concern right now. Better bots are great, but not at the expense of multiplayer in a game based around multiplayer.

That's also my opinion. If you give us the opportunity to play the game in single player, then please work on the bots, so that you can actually win the game with them (let them use potions, let them focus on my target or be a little more intelligent when chosing the target,...). in the level with the sawblades i ALWAYS lose all lives because the bots don't stop attacking the rocks even if there's a passage to go through and they always get caught by the sawblades.
