dont know if this is a bug or me just not understanding game mechanics, but here we go.

i had a colony with power, water and air generation. but no metal deposits anyway near.
when i finaly found a metal deposit i made a few drone hubs that had some overlapping and put storage depots in the overlapping area. i was expecting the drones to move stuff from my metal mine to the stroage depot where the overlapping to the next drone hub and so on. think of it like the old settlers games. but they just didnt move the metal.

i ended up losing the game because my power and other stuff needed repair but was missing the metal that the drones just didnt seem to move.

Can not help you since had same problem and could not figure out why metals would not be moved. Always play with a transporter now. They go collect minerals and can have it move stuff from one storage to the next.

Iv'e seen that you can set the transporters to make repeated runs though iv'e not tried it myself, I assume that they would go off and recharge themselves when they need it and then go back to the task again.

If they don't then put electric cables on the two points where the transporters sit to load and unload their goods -I just happened to notice last night that while a transporter was picking up materials from a storage depot it just happened to be sitting on the top of a power cable and was charging up at the same time.

they dont go recharge them self. but thatnks for the tip with the power cables. gonna try it out. i still hope this is a bug that will get fixed.

Wait the depot to go full them disable it from accepting new metal.
All those metals will be transfered to the new depot. Repeat as much as needed.

Problem of this method is that you neeed to "open/close" depots all the time, but at least drones will do the job that way.

but i do agree it makes no sense for each drone hub to be its "own little resource world". It only creates micromanagement without any real challenge, just extra boring steps.

After some more experimentation, some redistribution does happen. I'm not 100% sure about how it's determined, but it seems to be based on maintaining a minimum quantity of each resource in each drone control zone, or in each depot. I'm not completely sure which, or if the needs of the buildings in a zone influence it. Either way, limited resource quantity can prevent redistribution, and the longer the chain the less efficient it seems to be.

The simple solution is a shuttle hub, which mostly makes resource distribution issues go away.

Getting resources distributed where I want seems to be the biggest challenge for me at the moment. Do they expect us to set up multiple auto routes with transporters (and if they expect us to do that, those jerks better learn to go charge themselves.)

The shuttle hub seems to help with the problem a little bit, but I see shuttles sit idle when I have stacks and stacks of fuel sitting outside my generators and an empty fuel depot next to my polymer factory. The logic of how they shuffle things around is not entirely clear to me.

Shuttles will move things between depots, they won't move from a factory/generator/extractor/etc to a depot. you need drones for that, afaict.

Not what I said. I have a depot full of fuel, and I have an empty fuel depot that needs it, but they won't move it between them.

My misunderstanding, i saw "fuel sitting outside my generators" and thought you meant it was still on the refinery output platform. No idea, then - my shuttles are working well enough, though i really need there to be more of them.

What depots need is just a button to "ask for resources". With this that depot will take priority and be filled by any means necessary.

Also drone hubs need to share their zone of command. Its totally mindblowing that each drone rub work as its own zone. Its excess micromanagement without any purpose.

I think shuttle hubs are the intended solution for widely separated settlements.

The only time I've seen that is when the depot I want stuff moved to is forbidden to receive resources. Are you sure your shuttle hub is receiving fuel as well?
