Played with maxed meteor storms, yes, that can clear out the targeted map square and some of the nearby ones, but in those map you need to spread out fast and hard (and hope in the early part and keep enough money for a restock ship)
If by squares you mean sector, then one sector would be OK, but the debris field covers 6 sectors, and not just any 6 sectors on the map, no the 6 sectors that just happen to have my base in them.

Someone asked what my sample size is, its small, only my 3rd game, but in all 3 the meteor storms have been orders of magnitude above anything I've seen on the dozens of Youtubes I've watched, on this play through I even selected no mystery, hoping that that was previously the source of these, but its not.

Yes - this IS surviving mars. The game is not about building a huge colony that can stand forever. It is about creating a first colony on mars and try to survive. If you have researched everything and your colony works "stable" the game is over. Time to start again with different starting conditions at another place on mars.

The fun part of this game is not to HAVE a colony - but to build one. Desasters can happen and can throw you back - try to recover. Or start over again and try to be better prepared the next time....

Ciao, Udo

From what I've seen they will primarily target one sector, but will spread out to any of the surrounding sectors, so it will generally cover about 9 sectors in total. I've had one focus on my base and it was rough, but nowhere near game ending (not saying that that yours wasn't). I even managed to get a screenshot of a meteor hitting my fuel depot. :D (360 units of fuel make a BIG BOOM)

Preparing your base and infrastructure for relevant disasters is part of the game. Sounds like you got hit hard, but I have to question, if you lost 40 Wind turbines, maybe you shouldn't have put 40 wind turbines in 1 spot..

On a more commiserative note, that sucks :p Start again, see if you can learn and adapt your strategies, and try to Survive Mars!!

They do super suck, but you need to git gud. I had one last 3 sols and I had zero deaths besides suicides. Domes don't have a serious problem getting hit with them and everything else should be redundant and replaceable. If your life support pipes get hit and spring 50 leaks, don't wait for them to be repaired. Delete them and replace them with the drones you should have had waiting nearby with metal ready to go when you saw the hit warning on your pipes.

I'll agree the damn things lasting days and days isn't fun. If you haven't killed me by the end of the first day, bugger off.
