Which one? Because it looks like there is quite a few different methods and I would like to know what is the one that world work.
There's exactly one, I'm not sure what else you are seeing.

Workaround:

1: Open Command Prompt (it's in Accessories in Vista)

2: Set it to be in Admin mode http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc947813(v=ws.10).aspx

3: Paste this in: bcdedit /set increaseuserva 3072

4: Restart

5: to undo: BCDEdit /deletevalue increaseuserva

Note this will NOT help if you have 2gb or less of system memory, only loading fewer DLCs will do that.

I believe but it's disheartening that you use that gif as that is right before anakins pride leads to him getting sliced to pieces. x.x

Having the same issue. Bought ROI the day it came out, realized the update made my old save games unplayable. No big deal. Rolled back to 2.0.4 and finished up the game. after that, I re-updated and installed ROI. was quite excited to try out a new indian ruler. However, as soon as I started to play (in ironman), the game kept telling me that it was
unable to save for whatever reason (other than that the game ran just fine). tried out several rulers, same problem. also experienced general bugginess (lag, see-through interface, random achievements unlocking etc). wasn't terribly upset about it, and decided to go back to 2.0.4 and wait for a patch to fix this. upon booting up the game, and attempting to load a scenario, CK2 crashes and I get the Microsoft Visual C++ Runttime Library error... What I really don't get is how it was working fine (with ROI) before this happened, and in 2.0.4...not sure if posting this will help, but as many people seem to be having this issue, it would be nice to see if progress being made to fix the problem...

Hopefully, we'll see by the end of this week.

I mean out of all the topics on the tech forum, this is the 2nd most viewed ever. So....

The number one issue is the memory problems low-end computer users are having. Beyond that there are a lot of important things that need to be put into the fix. We updated a DLC Portrait pack and the forum near exploded about a mini patch being out which there weren't making several people confused and angry. Releasing several small hotfixes would just make it worse with people believing we will never fix their specific problem they want fixed for instance.

The Hotfix will be out when it is ready.

Here's a quote from a different topic.

So my saga ends. My Win 7 64 disc arrived, and I installed it with relish, and now have been playing CK2 with all DLC half the day, No Problems! :D And I also have come to another conclusion: I like Windows 7, I see what everyone was talking about, it is a nice OS. So thanks Paradox for giving me the final nudge and making me crack down and get a new version of Windows, finally. Hope the hotfix comes soon because come Monday I'm moving and I don't know when I will have the internets again! Also for those who don't have the means to get new parts/OS for their machines yet, I hope Groogy can blow more than hot air for you! I have faith though, you see I'm a true believer. *Smiles as the blood of the Kalidox dribbles down his face*

Please add this: http://dwf.blogs.com/beyond_the_paper/2009/04/enabling-3gb-switch-on-windows-vista.html " solution to the one being posted all over.

The bcdedit-function isn't available on XP, but enabling the 3GB switch is an option, that fixed things for me, and apparently at least one more guy here.

Enable the 3GB switch on Windows XP

Right-click My Computer. Click Properties.
In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
On the Advanced tab, under Startup and Recovery, click Settings.
In the Startup and Recovery dialog box, under System startup, click Edit. The Windows boot.ini file will be opened in Microsoft® Notepad.
Create a backup copy of the boot.ini file. Note: Boot.ini files may vary from computer to computer.
Select the following line in the boot.ini file:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

Press Ctrl+C to copy the line and then press Ctrl+V to paste it immediately below the original line.
Note: Your text string may be different from the text string in this solution, so be sure to copy the text string from your boot.ini file, and not the text string included here.
Modify the copied line to include “ /3GB”, as shown in the following example:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional 3GB" /3GB /fastdetect

Note: Do not overwrite any existing lines.

Save and close the boot.ini file.
Click OK to close each dialog box.
Restart your computer.
During startup, select the 3GB option. If you do not select the 3GB option, the system will default to the 2GB total memory setting.
Note: If problems occur during startup, you may need to update some of your drivers.

Yeah windows 7 is good sadly >.< windows 8 is junk ! That is causing the problems for the wide dispersion of hardware currently , normally around this time I would buy a new comp . But vista troubles and microscum enforcement of selling there windows 8 stocks with every new comp .
Left people waiting for windows 9 , have another comp with windows 7 and it is indeed like XP a terrific product .
Why they didn't enhance on it , :p corporate greed .

Thus everybody suffers , while waiting for 2015 for windows 9 !

I have this suspicious feeling that if I got windows 7 64bit, windows 9 will come out. So I'm going to hold out a little bit longer...

Well you should , cause we are left with 1 year without a real OS
http://microsoftsecurityhelp.com/wi...n-windows-8-and-start-planning-for-windows-9/

So basically lets pray windows 9 is like windows 7 and we finally have a stable hardware and software market for atleast 5 year . Before everybody runs off to work with consoles :p cause investment cost are not worth the delivery of the product , cause target market is not there .
well target marker is there , just not the right hardware or software available .

Honestly, Windows 8 is a good OS, if you install Classic Shell. The only thing they ruined is not inegrating the start button and that can be fixed.

Just tried the Beta patch with mixed results.

I don't have time right now to really test this, but here's what I have, here's what I did, and here's what happened.

Windows XP, NVidia 8600 GT, 2 gigs of RAM.

All DLC except the following: Sunset, EU4 converter, ROI, and the ROI music.

With everything that I have turned on (see above for what I don't have) I crashed just before I got to the initial menu screen (map of Europe with buttons for single and multi-player, and other options etc.).

With everything turned on except what I don't have, but with all of the music turned off (sorry Andreas) I did not crash and the initial menu loaded. I even selected a character in a scenario and hit play, and that loaded without crashing as well.

Later this weekend I will start from the base-line of what I know will run without crashing (described above) and start turning things on one at a time to figure out how much I can have running and still get the game to work.

Earlier in this thread I had mentioned that what I thought was needed was a table to help guide you through what you need to turn on and off if you have limited memory (which I obviously do). To be able to play the ROI DLC, I'll need to know how much to turn off in order to be able to get it to run. If I had the Indian material, how many music DLC's is that the equivalent to? If I need to have two or three music DLC's turned off to accomodate RoI, and another turned off to accomodate the RoI music, that will give me a better sense of what is and is not possible. I also don't have a good grasp of which music DLC's go with which situations. Does a Byzantine dynasty ever hear Songs of Faith or the Yuletide music?

Nice try, and here's hoping there will be more refinements and guidance for workarounds.

[And yes I know that the real solution would be to get a more modern computer and a better memory card, but that's not in the cards right now].

All cultural specific music that you don't play as, won't play. So yes, you can switch off all music dlc you don't play as.
Songs of faith is not cultural specific.
Yuletide wil only play in real life month of december.

You can see the restrictions in the text file of the dlc. Just click on the zipped dlc file to open it with explorer.
DLC numbers are here:http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...rmance-boost-file-locations-DLC-names-numbers

I think paradox should just give owners of the music DLC an optional steam DL where we can get mp3's of the full sound track. Then load it up in a playlist later or on a separate device all together.

The whole thing where it only plays during certain cultures or other triggers is cool and all. It's nice and paper but it's just not worth the headache imo. And uses way more memory than it should be using.

I took the plunge and bought the RoI and Indian music DLC.

I gave it a try turning everything off in the west and it worked.

I've also tried running a Byzantine configuration (leaving graphics on for everything I thought they were likely to come in contact with) and I was able to get that to load as well without crashing.

My impression is that a 2 GB user can probably run the game provided that the graphics and music for anything other than the part of the world that will be played is turned off.

Note that I managed a run with all the DLC's turned on except the graphic and/or music ones that didn't apply to the area that I intended to try.

I haven't tried Central Europe and the British Isles yet.

That means, of course, that charts will be really helpful, unless by some magic it becomes possible to play with everything turned on, but with only 2GB of memory I don't think that's going to happen.

I like (and can work with) what I've seen so far.

Kudos to the development team.

They are OGG files. These can play in most 'mp3'-players just as well. Just unzip the DLCs first.

Or you convert them to mp3.
Possible with VLC, i do it with Audacity.

There is a bit more work that can be done before. I just didn't have time to get all of it into this patch. Not sure how much it will give me but it might be that little difference needed.
Hang in there!

In the meantime, here is a cute hedgehog picture

I tried it briefly yesterday, and it didn't seem to be an improvement over the beta patch. Actually, my impression (which I'll test tomorrow or Sunday) was that it had a little bit less available memory. But it could just have been my failing memory and a touch of dissapointment.

I'll do a damage assessment over the weekend, but I hope this is not of the patching process with regards to the memory issue for people with two gigs on older machines.

Thanks for trying, though.
