So during todays live stream we got abit more gameplay and saw the Devs play Pechenegs in 1066 start date.

Artur migrated the Pecheneg nomads to Alania however upon showing the culture map mode it seems the Pecheneg culture didn't move with the ruler and stayed in the Dniper region while the Alan culture wasn't displaced.

This is abit curious as nomad migration implied the whole population moving to another place.
What do you guys think?

Damn, I also saw this in the stream and just made a thread about it:

Didn‘t know there was already a thread about it.
Yeah, it‘s really a bit of a bummer. It‘s a pretty huge immersion killer to keep the culture map that static in a supposedly dynamic steppe…

Perhaps the county has to have a nomadic settlement as a capital since those Laktans seem a little lost.
Yeah, that‘s a really really good point! Hopefully it‘s just because the Alans seem to be tribal and we‘re worrying about nothing:)
Still, the point about illogical culture heads I raised in the other thread still stands. Artur shouldn‘t stay the culture head if he doesn‘t have at least one Pecheneg culture county!

It actually does appear that cultures can move because near the end of the stream they migrate to the eastern shores of the Caspian Sea and become head of Pecheneg culture again. The Alans are nomadic so that might be the issue.

They haven't really explained how the migration mechanics and cultural displacement will work. If migrating resulted in automatic culture-flip, people would cry that it's too easy or something. I think there should be a few steps once you migrate, to show the local culture at first resisting then merging in or moving out.

What I hoped for - a mechanic that when a Steppe power conquers something, that the conquered something is displaced, forced a province over. This displacement over time is important. Most of the steppe people didn't march into Europe for fun, they were displaced and forced out.

I want to see forced migrations and displacements as well as intentional migrations.

Honestly, i was hoping that a displaced tribe/nomad would become a "horde". Like a wandering character with a bigger army. They would get a CB to migrate somewhere and establish their culture there cause if Pechenegs would completly overwrite Alans that would also feel wrong.

Historically nomad migrations happened from the East-West direction. Emerging powerfull Khans would conquer/displace other nomads. Like the Cumans displaced the Pechenegs, forcing them to settle more westward and the Mongols (i think) displaced the Cumans forcing them to settle in Hungary and Wallachia.

I was very disappointed when I saw that in the livestream. Hope a dev could clarify whether this is really the case or not.

Migrating SHOULD change culture, even if you're migrating to a settled land like Hungary or Bulgaria (but in that case it should only change one or two counties instead of the entire duchy/kingdom)
