Militiary Access Question

Ok i was just wondering...
In game you can move units too and through your allies territory without having to ask for access.
But does it make any difference at all to logistics or anything if you actually also Ask for Military access to your allies..Or is it just a waste of DI points which it looks like?

Seeing as how HoI1 is pretty close to EU2 - I think the difference might be access during peacetime? So once at war it would be useless, I think.
