Georgia on my mind

Werner Bragatun was certainly the strongest monarch in Europe. King of Georgia, Jerusalem, Arabia, North Africa, Mauritania, Couman, Basrah and a few dozen of other titles, he was the heir of a strongly centralized empire. His father had left a huge treasury, and Werner was about to go on crusade against the moslem in Persia.

Werner was considered as a fanatique, coward, bowed man. His wife had caused him a huge pain when she told him that one of their sons was a bastard, son of a moslem cheik. So, when she told him a second son may be of the blood of a greek general, and that there was doubt on a third one, it was more than a so prestigious king could endure. One night, the murderers entered the royal chamber and, the following morning, the queen was found bathing in her blood. Unhappily for Werner, it soon came out that he was the man who paid for that crime and all Europe knew he was a parricide.

In this year 1228, the Bragratun family was about to face the greatest peril ever met by Europe since the time of Attila the Hun.

Temujin's inheritance

Djötchi was in a bad mood : he had been just about to launch the hordes on former kama bulgar's land when his father suddenly died, and he had to travel back to Qara Qorum for the great Kuriltai. What for ? He couldn't hope to be chosen as kaghan since his mother was raped about 9 months before his birth, and despite the love of Gengis Khan, he was still considered as a bastard.

What should have taken a few months lasted nearly a year. There was no problems about the lands, but about who would the one above the others. Little brother Tului was not in question since he was the heir of the family fire. But it was long to choose between Djaghatai and Ogodei. Finally, Ogodei got the title.

However, in the meantime, aware of the mongol project, georgia had mobolized to counter the Golden Horde.

Georgia for ever

As soon as scouts had return, announcing Werner the Golden Horde Was about to launch the conquest Of the Russian territories, the king ordered a great mobilisation. About 200 000 were sent to beat the mongols. The Kins or the Kwarezmian had been unable to resist those terrible ridders, who always run away once their arrows sent. To avoid that, the georgian troops would encircle the mongols.

War was declared, and about 100 000 europeans converged on the positions of the 100 000 Mongols. It was a butchery. After one month, 30 000 georgians were dead, for only 10 000 ennemies. Despite of continous reinforcements arriving, the moral was about to fail. 95% of the regiments had already withdrawn to more deffencive positions. Only the Turk Kipchak were still fighting fiercely, despite the dead of their general. Captain Klorikis of Antioch was now in charge, and far of using his holly handgrenade, he told his men to change their technics...

Georgia of the Jungle

General Salim ben Usla to Werner Bragratun : Sire, let's run away before more men get kill ! We'll beat them an other day.
Werner Bragratun : I agree with you ! Ask for my herald.

But at that moment, a Kipchak messenger arrived :

"Archers ! Degrade your arrows so that they can be used only once ! Take all arrows you can find on dead bodies ! Aim ennemies, not the horses ! Everyone else, protect our archers with your shields !"

Werner : Who orders that, warrior ?
Messenger : Captain Klorikis of Antioch ! He says it's the anly way to win the battle !
Werner : So he thinks we can still win ?
Messenger : His tactic his proving worthfull ! We killed about 5000 mongols within 10 days ! They are withdrawing from the North. Captain says that, with the Finland regiments soon arriving from the North-West, Victory may be ours !
Werner : Why not ?
Right then a scout arrived : My king, El'Rik of Tangier and the morrocan Armiy will be arrive tomorrow.
Werner : Hope is coming back ! Let's win this battle !

This is how the chance of the battle turn in favour of the Georgians. Soon the mongols started to lack arrows, and part of their fighters had to be employed to make new ones. They couldn't use the georgain arrows that broke immediately after reaching target.

After 6 months, the georgians won.

Georgian legend

This victory was a complete one : the 100 000 mongols were dead or had deserted, what was pretty much the same since their punition would be death. Many Georgian had died : 90 000 due to the ennemy weapon, 30 000 due to the famine, diseases, infected wounds after the battle. 60 000 had run away or turned their jacket in favour of the mongols, been sure they would win.

180 000 soldiers was a grievious lost, but georgia was strong. 100 000 wasn't much, but it was the best part of the Djötchide army. No doubt the mongols would come back, and if they were to win that time, there would be no mercy for Europe.

Indeed, Djötchi sent a knew campaign in 1259. But the Georgians, following General Klorikis' tatics won easily with only 120 000 soldiers. Loses were of 100 000 men.

The Horde wouldn't show again.
