I can't seem to figure out how to do a minimum install. The box insists that I only need 120MB of hard drive space and the forums says it requires 200MB, however when I try to install it tells me I need X amount additional space that adds up to 400MB. javascript:smilie(':(')

Please help me figure this out ASAP as I do not have 400MB to dedicate to one game. If there is no way to do a minimum install are there things I can delete and still have the game work(music and the editor?).

Who is the publisher of your version. eg. Strategy First for the NA version.

The size could be dependant on your filestructure and fragmentation of you harddisk.
If you are using fat on a large disk or partition then you will "loose" room on it. Especially if you have lots of small files.

Its Stategy First v. 1.00 and the FAT size is 32.

Try contacting SF their links are in the Support options thread.
Let us know what they say, pls.

Iwill contact them for you and see if I can get a better responce. ;)

Just heard back from the lead support tech at SF, SF does not have a minium install option, It is a misprint on the box. :(

You could try deleting the 170 MB of music, but then it would be a very quiet game:( . You could also delete 20 MB of intro under “...\Hearts of Iron\avi . And as a last resort you can delete the 11 MB of sound effects under “...\Hearts of Iron\sfx\wave”. Just to let you know I haven’t tried this so I don’t know if it will create a conflict within the game.

Should be fine with the music and Video gone, don't know about sound effects though.

I finally got a response two weeks ago and have since communicated with a tech support person at SF. In the first e-mail I was informed that the minimum install is 442 MB(give or take) and in the subsequent emails I was directed to deleted binkplay.exe and "all the movie", which I assumed was divided into three parts: game.bik, paradox.bik and publisher.bik. Unfortunently, this only saved me about 19 Megs of Space.

I deleted the music and the sound effects and so far the game has run fine so far, although I could hear a pin drop in the background. These saved me an additional 181 MB of space.

P.S. The tech support guy "isn't sure" why the box lists less than 442 MB.

I *think* it's because they decided not to include the minimum install option after all but perhaps the decision to do this was made too late and the boxes had already been ordered from the printers.

If your trying to install the game and you dont have 400mb of space even just to install the 120mb 'minimal' version your going to run into problems.

There are many ways for you to get some disk space back. Uninstall some programs, clear recycle bin, lower your IE cache, etc.

Yup!
It could be a pain but Ryeuken is correct, thanks for the help.
