Just something I noticed about the new Isles tag in Scotland.

I was looking through a list of Scottish arms on WappenWiki when I came across the Kingdom of the Isles, and found that the Isles - specifically the ruling House of MacDonald did not use the arms represented in game. Therefore, a minor adjustment I would suggest would be to simplify the Isles' flag by replacing it with the following arms. The current flag is honestly pretty ugly and needlessly complex. The following arms are not only simpler, but far nicer in my humble opinion.

That's all I have for today. If I have made any mistakes in my research or in my conclusions then feel free to either correct me or simply just ignore this thread. Have a nice day!

I was looking through a list of Scottish arms on WappenWiki when I came across the Kingdom of the Isles, and found that it was divided into the Hebrides and Isle of Mann. I then sought some other sources to cross-reference and I found that the Isles did in fact control Mann for a significant period, though by the time of the game's start the Isles had lost its control over it. Therefore, I have concluded based on the little bit of research I have done that the Isles should have a core on Mann, with the island still remaining in English hands.

The Isles in the game is the 'Highlander' Lordship of the Isles under the MacDonalds rather than the 'Norse' Kingdom of the Isles led by the Crovan dynasty (who you can play as in CK2). The Lordship didn't have any claim to Man.

Unfortunately many historical flags, and especially coats of arms, are very ugly. Do you have a better source on that alternative flag that explains its history and application?

The original post has been modified to remove suggestions about changes to cores and the title has been changed to "Minor Suggestion for the Flag of the Isles"

Thanks for the clarification. It is much appreciated :)

The flag I suggested was used as the personal arms of the House of Macdonald, who as you know ruled over the lordship at game start. It is actually already present as the inescutcheon (which is the smaller shield within the larger shield if you are unfamiliar with heraldic terminology) in the flag which is already used in-game by the Isles. The following is from page 637 of the General Armory of England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales, an armorial from the mid-19th century which catalogs the blazon of each family arms throughout the British Isles. The only difference between this blazon and the image from WappenWiki is the absence of a red hand in the top left corner in the image.

Macdonald (ancient Lords of the Isles). Or, an eagle displayed with two heads gules (some have the eagle with only one head), surmounted by a lymphad sable, in the dexter chief point a dexter hand couped gules.

Hopefully this was helpful in some way. I will continue to look for more sources if required, but hopefully this was sufficient :)
