Thanks--you nailed it. I inadvertently applied the patch for Doomsday to the HOI2 installation. When I first corrected the application of the wrong patch, I failed to uninstall the game and reinstall clean. When I uninstalled, reinstalled, and patched with 1.3A, all is well.
