I've purchased the entire Stellaris collection on GOG, since I love Stellaris and I love having ownership of the things I buy.

I had 50+ hours put in a save game file that supposedly was "synched to the cloud". Yesterday, I was without Internet at home but tried to play the game in offline mode. But, to my surprise, the game couldn't find my save game!

I opened the save game folder in Windows Explorer at %HOME%/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/save games and, indeed, the folder was empty.

Did I just lost my entire saved game? Is there any way to get the backup from the cloud?

That is expected as only local saves are written there.

Under Steam a local cache of cloud saves is written here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<YOUR STEAM ID>\281990\remote\save games\

I'm not familiar with how GoG does these things but I'd assume they have a similar location, you may need to contact them if you can't find it. Perhaps a search for *.sav files would find them?

Just to clarify something: there WERE files in that folder before. I tried restoring them through the operating system (an option under the context menu in Windows Explorer), but the last backup was from three weeks ago.

Are you from Paradox Support? Like, an official representative? How come you "are not familiar" with it?

See... the thing is, I've already looked it up and it seems Paradox did not implement cloud saves for the GOG version, even though the option is enabled in-game. Does this information proceed?

There's certainly nothing in the game that deliberately deletes saves from anywhere. So i cannot explain what happened to those save files.

I am, yes, that's what Paradox Support Rep means. That doesn't mean I have personal access to every game I support on every one of the numerous platforms we sell on, GoG included. I do have channels I can get information from if needed of course.

On Steam the cloud that games are stored on is Steam's , not Paradox's. Can I ask where you looked up that there are no cloud saves on the GoG version? Then I can ask better questions backstage.

Does this information proceed?
Sorry, I don't understand this question. Can you rephrase for me please?

Andrew... I'm sorry for my rudeness. I was understandably distressed with the perspective of losing 50+ hours of game, but this does not excuse my behavior. I sincerely apologise.

Apparently, after the Internet access was restored here at home, the game also restored the saved files, both "in game" and in the save games folder at %HOME%/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/save games.

However, the issue I reported above did indeed happen: after I tried to run the game in offline mode, not only my saves were not available in game but the save games folder was empty.

I'm assuming this is some kind of bug in which, somehow, the game tries to sync the local files with the remote ones and, during this process, because of the lack of Internet access, it deletes the local files.

Once again, I apologise. And thank you for your response.

Regarding the reports I read about Paradox not implementing cloud saves for the GOG version of Stellaris, I got them from two posts at the Stellaris GOG community forum.

But apparently I cannot post the URLs here because I have yet to post at least 5 posts here.

I see, I was unaware of that.

I guess this should be logged as a bug, even though I suppose it is more of a design or missing feature issue. Are you okay to do that in Bug Reports here?

I believe the local save games for "cloud save" games are in
\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris\pops_filestorage\save games\

It's a rather poorly labeled system unfortunately.

Hey did you manage to find a way? I'm in the exact same situation i'm copying the steam files in the \Documents\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris\pops_filestorage\save games\ directory but it's simply like they weren't there (idk why out of the 7 1 works for no apprent reason even if i delete it though)
