I've started working on 1942 scenario. Everyone is welcome to contribute 1942 scenario. Here's the pathway which we should follow:
1. Map (90% complete, few islands to distribute between japan and usa)
2. Units - we should use 100% historical armies and divisions. such as 9th army in stalingrad. (The toughest part of our work.)
3. Ministers - exact ministers for 1942 scenario
And so on..

Nice idea, but I think the startdate could be some days earlier when the battle of stalingrad just started and shortly before the german army has been encircled. (Operation Uranus, 19. November 1942) Because then, the balance of powers would be better... and the germans could start counteractive measures in the last second.

The name Tide has Turned reminds me too much of the HOI3 scenario which is quite different as that is set after Stalingrad, North Africa is pretty much lost and Japan is starting to lose ground. Might I suggest 'In the Balance' as a name for this scenario. Because the late fall, early winter of 1942 can be described as a precarious balance of power between the two sides. The Axis empire has just passed it zenith. They are still stronger than the Allies but because they've run out of their momentum (Stalingrad, Moscow, Midway and El Alamein) they're in sort of balance. The Germans can for example pull together in the East if they consolidate their lines and wait out the winter or if only one objective (either Moscow, Leningrad or Stalingrad) is gone after. But the Russians can move in for the kill around both Stalingrad and Moscow as they have fresh recruits. In North Africa, Rommel can consolidate his forces around the former Libyan-Egyptian border and send a few units in the way of the Americans. Or the British can push onward and throw all their might in driving the Axis to Tunisia. Japan can dig in to it's remaining Pacific holdings and use decisive battles to weaken the US Navy once more while moving through Burma into India. Or the US can go island hopping.

I think I made quite a case for this name change :D The HOI3 1943 scenario can still be used for some units such as island garrisons, etc.

To achieve the ideal balance I think we need to go back a few weeks before December 12th to find that equilibrium for all three theatres to maximize the interestingness of this scenario.

I totally agree withg CaptRobau. "In the Balance" would be nicer because every faction is as strong as the other. And every country could avoid the downfall of its empire.

the start date is the start of operation winter storm, the start of the german counter offensive so i think its appropriate.

In the Balance would fit the summer of 1942 while The Tide has Turned would be early 1943. so i dont know of a good name. but the Tide hasn't turned yet. Stalingrad could break out and 30,000 marines could be driven into the sea at Guadacanal.

Exactly, my proposal is 18 November 1942 as startdate (as I wrote in another thread). You would have to choose between trying to hold at all cost (which would be risky) or retreating and this way saving your army.

Been doing some research and the 18th of November does seem like the most ideal starting point. In the Pacific, the Japanese have just been beaten in a naval battle off Guadalcanal. In Russia, the Soviet offensive is about to begin and in North Africa the Race for Tunis is on.

May I suggest this mod merges with this effort:

I don't see the use for two teams to work on what is essentially the exact same scenario.

The OP of that thread is the OP of this thread :D

Ah, yes You reminded me North Africa. So I started thinking if it would be even better to make "October 1942" (or 1 November 1942 date) scenario as peak point of Axis conquests. This is just an alternative idea, but in this case retreating Axis forces in Africa would not be such a disaster as encircled army in Stalingrad.

November 6, right after El Alamein Rommel could technically pull together along the former Egyptian border and Italian reinforcements could land in Tunisia to ward off the Americans. Would make that theatre more interesting. . Guadalcanal could be won by the Japanese and Paulus could pull back from Stalingrad before being encircled. I think it's more in the balance than the 18th but there's a lot of event stuff we don't have to do with Vichy if we do the 18th.

I think we should have a vote.

I'm coloring in a blank map of the HOI2 world map so that we can get which provinces are which exactly right.

I like 18th (although 6th is fine, also) just because the Allies have already landed in Vichy North Africa. Reminds me of the 1944 scenario where the Allies have already landed at Normandy.

Starting date is the 18th November and the title is In the Balance. Stalingrad is not surrounded.

Map is almost complete.

Now I need:
- Totally historical divisions and armies.
- Totally historical and damaged ships.
- Totally historical technologies
- Totally historical ministers

I think there should also be new events like:
- When italy lose africa completely, an event should trigger and add italy +50% dissent.
- When allies land on italian peninsula, an event should trigger and italy should surrender to allies.

That event did exist in HoI2. Is it still there? It triggered in case UK or USA conquered South Italy and North Africa was in Allied hands.

If we make a new event, it should be:
Requirements: alliance GER=ITA
war ITA=USA,UK
not control ITA= north africa
control USA/UK= south italy
effects: GER annexes ITA
GER releases ISR (and maybe gets some divisons)
