Do you get anything for performing missions other than victory points and 'promotions?'

Maybe it's just me, but I am totally unmoved by victory points. If I don't get money, units, territory, diplomatic relations, or something else that actually does me some good in the game, then I just don't see the point.

Besides, it's way too easy to 'game' the monarch on missions. Just ignore missions until the monarch gives you one you weren't going to do anyway, & then go select TWO from the list that you WERE going to do anyway. First thing you know, you'll be a 'regent.' (Huzzah!)

I'm one of the people who feels that the missions are somewhat pointless to have, especially since the player can easily gain far more VPs from missions than the computer (assuming one even cares about VPs). If you don't want to have missions, you can change 'dynamic missions' to OFF at the start of a new game and the neglect to select a mission for yourself, which effectively takes them out of the game.

Just turn them off then, they are optional. Just don't come back with posts like 'game unbalanced, Spain get way too many VPs' =).
