So, a lot of people don't like Sunset Invasion. While some don't like it from a historical accuracy perspective, many others thought that it lacked good gameplay. In the run-up to Jade Dragon, I saw it suggested that the Aztecs use the China mechanic so, when Jade Dragon came out, that's what I did. I managed to get the basics set up.

Unfortunately, I then stopped due to busyness and playing HoI/EUIV/Stellaris when their patches came out.

Fortunately, I saw the mod lying around on my PC recently and have decided to carry on with it.

(Note lack of interface graphics)

There's no download/workshop link yet, as it's not really playable yet, but hopefully, it will be soon.

Features I hope to implement:
Expanded Aztec religion (Will start as an organised religion)
Fleshed out interactions via the offmap interface and decisions and events.
Possibly other nations (Inca, Maya, Iroquois) and cultures and religions for them.
Further expanded narrative and story events for the Sunset Invasion timeline.

If anyone who's competent with the CKII script, could translate or can make graphics would like to join and help, please send me a PM or reply in the thread.

Any feedback/questions/ideas are welcome!

First Update!
Hello!

So, I've done some more work and I've gotten the basic setup working.

The event about the Aztec's landing is now a choice:

You can either give them the province for a large amount of gold and a good artifact, however, your vassals will be displeased and the province will be converted.

If you refuse, things will pan out closer to the vanilla version:
20180413232626_1.jpg
You won't lose anything but the Aztecs will invade.

In terms of the invasion, it will be pretty much the same as in vanilla except that most of the event spawned troops will disband on peace. Similar to the Western Protectorate, the Aztec Colony will request reinforcements if it has less than -50% warscore.

Should you get defeated by the Aztecs or you voluntarily swear fealty to the mighty Huehuetlatoani, then there is a decision for you:

As long as you're not zealous you can embrace the Aztec gods. This will also mean that the Huehuetlatoani won't have a revoke reason on you (The colony has the religious revoke law).

The Aztec is no longer pagan, but Mexhicatl, a separate group that will eventually include Mayan and maybe Incan (This is also why the Aztecs aren't using the Pagan UI or title graphics, though this will apparently be fixable in a future patch.) It currently has a head of religion, the Head of the Eastern Cult of Huitzilopochtli. The Huehuetlatoani of Tenochtitlan is the Head of the Cult of Huitzilopochtli, however, he cannot administrate the east so the power is delegated to the Huehuetlatoani. At the moment the head of the religion can't do much other than call crusades, but eventually, he will have special interactions that he can take. I may also make the Aztecs use the patriarch system, though I'm not sure how well that would work.

The mod is still not really playable, but it's getting closer. I hope to be able to release it Soon™. I still need to make the Aztecs interact well with everything and get the offmap interactions and events working/made.

That's it so far. Stay tuned for more.

Will the Aztec colony be playable?
Well, at the moment it is playable but it uses the Western Protectorate inheritance law which means that there's no dynastic persistence (random heirs are spawned). Maybe there'll be a way for you, as the eastern emperor, to declare independence and change inheritance law or something. Not really decided how that'll work yet.

Yeah, that's pretty close to what I've got. The Aztec policies are invaders (will declare war to expand the colony and generally be aggressive and colonialist towards Europeans), traders (will want to expand but will be willing to pay and bargain for things and generally conduct diplomacy and relations with Europeans), explorers (won't really expand but will learn more about Europeans (making books, inviting characters, building hospitals and libraries &c)) and the isolationist, where the colony has little contact with Tenochtitlan and is mostly left do do its own thing and the interactions with the emperor are disabled).

As for statuses, there are the standard ones: stability, plague, unrest, civil war, famine and golden age. They also may have Mayan, Incan Norse or Iroquian invasion. I do like the sun on the interface though I would like to change the dragons as well though, it doesn't look very Nahuatl. The CoA looks cool, though.

Yes, I'll put something up at some point (after the weekend at the earliest). I've been running into some 'interesting' bugs and limitations that are somewhat annoying, but I'll have a lot more time next week so hopefully, I'll have some interesting things to show.

Second Update!
Niltze!

First off: the mod still isn't ready. I'm having some issues with AI behaviour at the moment so it's not quite working as I'd like. Also, as previously mentioned, making the Aztecs use pagan UI and graphics (Or possibly a new UI, if possible) is only going to be possible after Holy Fury.

Other than that, a few things I've added:

20180723161620_1.jpg

The governor of the Aztec colony is now a proper governor (I.e. he is a republic). The colony has a special government type. This doesn't mean that the Altepetl has gone, all other Aztec feudal rulers will still be Altepetls. The governor also uses appointment succession. Thematically, this is the Aztec Emperor of Tenochtitlan sending retiring or accomplished warriors, commanders or such. The rulers will always have high martial and decent stewardship. Some will have more intrigue than others. They can also have an array of different traits and should always have a lifestyle trait.

20180723161702_1.jpg

(This wasn't meant to fire but I thought I'd show it)
Just like China, the Aztecs will demand rulers become tributaries, declaring war on them if they refuse. In this case, the proposal was accepted. At the moment, pretty much all of the normal Chinese war events have been ported over. There'll probably be some specific ones and I'll make them all more flavourful for the Aztecs eventually.

20180723162008_1.jpg 20180723162012_1.jpg 20180723162020_1.jpg

To spend your respect, one of the things that you can do is request an Aztec doctor. This is pretty similar to the Chinese doctor, so there's not much to say.

20180723162026_1.jpg 20180723162031_1.jpg 20180723162036_1.jpg 20180723162047_1.jpg

Another option is to request a commander from the Aztecs. They will always be Tlaxcalan and always have good martial. They can have a variety of different traits. Some are good at sieges and some are good at leading battle and such. (Also the Tlaxcalan culture should increase martial and combat skill, but it's not working at the moment.) The warrior of Huitzilopochtli trait (icon not final) is sort of a mishmash of the different religious traits. They get a bonus against religious enemies as well as general combat bonuses. It does not replace eagle warrior and is not mutually exclusive with it. The governor can sometimes have the trait whereas Tlaxcalan warriors will always have it.

In addition to this there are some other smaller changes:
- Added an event for Aztec settlers to settle in Europe. This changes the province religion and culture to be Aztec and Mexicah. Possible for any province in the Aztec colony (even those owned by different culture/religion vassals). It happens at a moderate pace normally but will happen very quickly if the Aztecs have the invader policy (think forced relocation of Natives).
- Renamed the Mesoamerican culture group to Nahuatl and the Nahuatl culture to Mexicah. This is so Tlaxcalan makes sense (as Tlaxcalan is still Nahuatl).
- Added some localisations to things that didn't have it.
- Removed all vanilla Sunset Invasion events other than the initial landing (which only happens if you refuse to sell). The invasion ones probably won't be coming back, they'll be more like the china ones, but the news events will come back. They'll probably be edited and they'll be news events (i.e. you'll only get them if you're in diplorange of the Aztecs and you don't have news disabled), however, they'll also have effects. (E.g. Aztecs will use horses once they've acclimatised to them, wars with other American powers will be a status (hopefully with interesting effects on Europe) and so on.)
- Added a photo to the conversion decision.

And a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff and probably things I've forgotten.

Super-secret screenshot.
WHAT COULD IT MEAN??

Do you plan to introduce other cultures?
Other Nahuatl cultures or any cultures? I don't have any specific plans to add other Nahuatl cultures as I can't think of any use for them, as they'll all be in the Old World (America). Though if I can think of an interesting reason to have them then yeah, sure.

As for other cultures, I plan on adding Iroquian, Mayan and Andean cultures (May want to take another look at that secret screenshot).
