For a version that makes use of cultures from Cultures Expanded:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3180138029
This "character pack" is the result of slightly over 17 months of research worth of my free time and includes over 3000 missing historical characters as well as some fictional characters to fill the gaps between known relatives and to represent several tribes that are absent from the game. For those who are interested, many of the characters have explanations within them on who they were, their titles, family connections etc. and I've also added explanations for some of the families, I will add more of these explanations in the future.
Below is a list of contents(somewhat outdated as of 16/02 since a lot more were added after that) , I'll also make a list of some of the decisions I took regarding theories etc. once I have more time available.
Below is also a roadmap although somewhat outdated as it is from when I first decided to release this as a mod and since then I have added much of the stuff that I intended to add after first version and also added a few more things to my list of things to add. Currently all the ones until 1.6 are either completed or near completion with all progress so far being added. Some work is also done on a few of them: 1.6, which will be completed soon, 1.7, 1.9, which I may stop working on altogether and 2.1.
Slightly updated roadmap, the mod is currently in 1.7 according to that.
Main sources:
Below ar some additional sources used for just a single person or a few persons so I put them seperately
And finally, as I've told at the start of this post, this is intended to be used by people so anyone can use this in it's whole or parts of it, all I'll ask is to be given credit if it's used in a mod.
Note: Files below are slightly outaded as of 10/03 (last updated a few days ago) quite outdated as of 02/04, last updated a few days before 10/03. I will probably just remove them soon.

##### EXISTING CHARACTERS THAT ARE CHANGED #####
Slightly updated roadmap, the mod is currently in 1.7 according to that.
V 1.0 ABBC Additional Byzantine-Bulgarian Characters
- Addition of missing members of the ruling family of Danube Bulgaria
(Dulo, Krum and Kometopuli families all thought to be the same dynasty)
- Addition of some families connected through marriage to ruling family of Danube Bulgaria
- Addition of missing members of the families of Emperors/Eastern Emperors existing in game starting with Constantinian dynasty,
so essentially Christian Emperors.
- Addition of Emperors of the West (for the time being only those connected through marriage to existing families or families I've added) and their families
- Addition of missing members of families that are connected through marriage to emperors (East and West both)
- Addition of missing families that are connected through marriage to emperors (East and West both)
- Addition of missing family members for historical families from Byzantine Empire that exist in game
(only a handful of families in game are actually historical families).
- Addition of dozens of historical families of various ethnic origins( including Arabs, Armenians, Bulgarians, Georgians, Persians and more)
from Byzantine Empire that are currently missing from the game.
- Addition of several Bulgarian families and people from 867 and 11th century (only a handful in either date)
1.1 ASS v1.0 (terrible name, I know) Anglo-Saxon Sigfredian
- Addition of missing members of Sigfredian dynasty (named Akra in game).
- Addition of missing members of House of Wessex and other Anglo-Saxon families that currently exist in game
- Addition of families connected through marriage to existing families
- Addition of several missing families from England both of Norse and Anglo-Saxon origin
The additions to this branch will initially focus on Anglo-Saxon people that were alive between 867 and 1066 with only a handful of people that have
died before 867 added. Several historical people who were members of the Sigfredian dynasty that currently exist in game
as descendants of Ragnarssons in the game so with a couple or so exceptions I won't add duplicates of them either.
In later updates of this line I intend to add missing members of families that were already dead in 867.
1.2 Ashes
- Addition of missing members of the Ashina Dynasty
- Addition of Ashide dynasty which frequently intermarried with Ashina
- Connection of Ashina family to families that possibly descended from them
This is one and done and is almost complete having added a whopping 120 or so missing members of Ashina dynasty and currently connected to Kharakanids. There are some other possible descendants which I have not connected yet.
As for Ashide, unfortunately I could only find a handful of members and their connections to eachother are not known.
1.3 Tribals v 1.0
- Addition of various tribes mostly Turkic, Slavic, Germanic, Finno-Ugric and a handful of Arabic ones but if I find others on regions I focus they'd be added as well.
First version of this branch of updates will add Turkic, Slavic and Germanic tribes in existence in 9th century that were located in Pannonia and
portions of Balkans under Bulgarian and Byzantine rule and a handful from de jure Croatia as well and is mostly complete.
Later versions I plan for this branch of updates will add missing Western Slavic tribes bordering Franks, various Turkic, Slavic and Finno-Ugric
tribes that bordered Rurikids, continuation of those tribes from first version that still existed in 10th and 11th centuries,
a couple or so Arabic tribes that were taken in by Byzantine Empire, two Greek ethnic groups one in Crete one in Morea peninsula
some Slavic tribes from Dalmatian coast, Croatia, Serbia.
1.4 Germania v 1.0
- Addition of missing members to the dynasties of Germanic tribes from earlier centuries that exist in game
- Addition of several dynasties of Germanic tribes from earlier centuries that are connected through marriage to families existing in game or were added by me. Primarily one Gepid, one Lombard and two Suevi families but also very small ones
This branch will probably not get that many updates because I have already worked extensively on it, adding many missing members to those families primarily the Ostrogothic Amals, Visigothic Balthings, Vandalic Hasdings, Frankish Burgundy(some mythical members such as Kriemhild), Frankish Merohingi and also some other Lombard and Visigothic families and also added several missing families, primarily a ruling dynasty of Gepids Two Suevi royal families, one Lombard dynasty and some smaller ruling families for several other tribes. Work also continues on a few smaller families, some Lombards and Visigoths. If I come across any others I would also add them in the future
1.5 Runsten
- Addition of several 11th century families known through runestones. Primarily the family of Varangian captain Ragnvaldr Ingvarsson, who belonged to higer nobility and may even have been a member of Munsö family and the family of Estrid his father's second wife and several families that were connected to their families through marriage and some families that may or may not be connected to them.
1.6 Saxons v1.0
- Addition of missing members to Saxon families.
This branch will be done through several versions, one family at a time. First family to be done is Immedinger, descendants of Widukind.
So far I have added all the Billungs and Immedingers I could find well as some of the Ekbertiners.
1.7 Damn Faithless Imperials
- Addition of emperors before Constantinian dynasty, so essentially those who are still pagans although the main reason for seperating the emperors in to two groups was to group them as before and after Tetrarchy.
1.8 PopPa 1.0
- Addition of families of Popes and Patriarchs. This will ocur in several versions but I've not yet decided how to group them who will be in each group, whether to exclude some from before a certain date unless they are connected to a family that already exists or perhaps give up on this idea and only finish what I've started
Work completed so far includes for the Popes:
Popes Gregory and Agapetus, were descendants of Felix III (Felix II in game), connected them to eachother and added their known family members
For Patriarchs:
Patriarch Photius' family is mostly added including connections to earlier Patriarchs from his family. I will later on connect to later Patriarchs that also belonged to his family.
Connected Patriarch Germanus to Justinian dynasty. Although I couldn't find any statements regarding this connection, his nameas well as that of his father, Justinian are both common names in Justinian dynasty considering the high rank of his father, a patrician, it suggest that not only did he belong to Justinian family but also to a specific branch of it, that of Germanus' descendants
Family of Patriarch Michael Keraularios, maternal uncle of empress Eudokia Makrembolitissa
Family of Patriarch Ioannes Xiphilinos
1.9 Mercenaries and Defectors + DIO, Descent into Obscurity v1.0
- Addition of many people in 11th century from various ethnic origins -and their families if they are known to have one- that served Byzantine Empire as mercenaries or defected to Byzantine Empire. So far they include Bretons, Cumans, French, Lombard, Norman, Oghuz and Pechenegs.
Mercenaries and Defectors branch will probably be a one and done as I have so far added almost all the people I could find, will add more if I find any.
Descent into Obscurity branch of updates will add fictional descendants to various dynasties that seem to have died out but may have just faded into obscurity. So say someone who is known to have died at the age of 60 with a certain knowledge of having never married will not be given descendants whereas someone who is known to be married and last mentioned at the age of 40 with no knowledge of when he died or whether if he had any child or not is a candidate to be added. v 1.0 will add descendants to people died before 867 and add descendants up to 867, next update on this line will add descendants to various people that died between 867 and 1066 and perhaps continue people from 867 to 1066.
Will later in a post explain more on DIO
2.0 GH
- Addition of people, primarily Magyars, mentioned in Gesta Hungarorum
2.0 GAP v1.0 Georgians, Armenians, Persians
- Addition of missing members to several important dynasties of Georgian, Armenian and Persian origin such as Mamikonians, Arsacids, Bagrats, Sassanids etc.
I have already added numerous member to several such dynasties as part of first version, people that lived both between 867-1066 and died long before 867 but most of the people I've added so far are those connected through marriage to families that currently exist or families that I've added. Intention of this branch of updates is to add complete family trees for them. Each version will probably focus on just one family

- Addition of missing families that are connected through marriage to emperors (East and West both)

Main sources:
Although I have used numerous sources, vast majority of the characters come from the first four sources listed below.

-Prosopography of the Byzantine World

-Prosopography of the Byzantine Empire, although relatively few characters came from this, it contributed a good number of Byzantine and Lombard characters for the period it covers (641-867)
- Two books from Herwig Wolfram, "The Roman Empire and it's Germanic Peoples" and "History of the Goths", contributed to Amal, Balthing and Hasding family trees (which I've previously only used PLRE)
- Alan Cameron's "The House of Anastasius" Added significantly to Anastasius' family tree. Although the family is mostly structured as in PLRE, I've also taken elements from Alan Cameron's work, especially for later generations which it covered better.
- Most of the families from England, both Anglo-Saxon and Norse, comes from William George Searle's Anglo-Saxon Bishops, Kings and Nobles.
- For the Anicii family tree I've used a mix of Alan Cameron's Anician Myths and the work of August Friedrich von Pauly - Georg Wissowa
- For Mamikanoians and various families descended from them I've used a mix of Cyril Toumanoff's and Christian Settipani's works.
