This "character pack" is the result of slightly over 17 months of research worth of my free time and includes over 3000 missing historical characters as well as some fictional characters to fill the gaps between known relatives and to represent several tribes that are absent from the game. For those who are interested, many of the characters have explanations within them on who they were, their titles, family connections etc. and I've also added explanations for some of the families, I will add more of these explanations in the future.

Below is a list of contents(somewhat outdated as of 16/02 since a lot more were added after that) , I'll also make a list of some of the decisions I took regarding theories etc. once I have more time available.

Below is also a roadmap although somewhat outdated as it is from when I first decided to release this as a mod and since then I have added much of the stuff that I intended to add after first version and also added a few more things to my list of things to add. Currently all the ones until 1.6 are either completed or near completion with all progress so far being added. Some work is also done on a few of them: 1.6, which will be completed soon, 1.7, 1.9, which I may stop working on altogether and 2.1.

Slightly updated roadmap, the mod is currently in 1.7 according to that.

V 1.0 ABBC Additional Byzantine-Bulgarian Characters

- Addition of missing members of the ruling family of Danube Bulgaria
(Dulo, Krum and Kometopuli families all thought to be the same dynasty)

- Addition of some families connected through marriage to ruling family of Danube Bulgaria

- Addition of missing members of the families of Emperors/Eastern Emperors existing in game starting with Constantinian dynasty,
so essentially Christian Emperors.

- Addition of Emperors of the West (for the time being only those connected through marriage to existing families or families I've added) and their families

- Addition of missing members of families that are connected through marriage to emperors (East and West both)

- Addition of missing families that are connected through marriage to emperors (East and West both)

- Addition of missing family members for historical families from Byzantine Empire that exist in game
(only a handful of families in game are actually historical families).

- Addition of dozens of historical families of various ethnic origins( including Arabs, Armenians, Bulgarians, Georgians, Persians and more)
from Byzantine Empire that are currently missing from the game.

- Addition of several Bulgarian families and people from 867 and 11th century (only a handful in either date)

1.1 ASS v1.0 (terrible name, I know) Anglo-Saxon Sigfredian

- Addition of missing members of Sigfredian dynasty (named Akra in game).

- Addition of missing members of House of Wessex and other Anglo-Saxon families that currently exist in game

- Addition of families connected through marriage to existing families

- Addition of several missing families from England both of Norse and Anglo-Saxon origin

The additions to this branch will initially focus on Anglo-Saxon people that were alive between 867 and 1066 with only a handful of people that have
died before 867 added. Several historical people who were members of the Sigfredian dynasty that currently exist in game
as descendants of Ragnarssons in the game so with a couple or so exceptions I won't add duplicates of them either.
In later updates of this line I intend to add missing members of families that were already dead in 867.

1.2 Ashes

- Addition of missing members of the Ashina Dynasty

- Addition of Ashide dynasty which frequently intermarried with Ashina

- Connection of Ashina family to families that possibly descended from them

This is one and done and is almost complete having added a whopping 120 or so missing members of Ashina dynasty and currently connected to Kharakanids. There are some other possible descendants which I have not connected yet.

As for Ashide, unfortunately I could only find a handful of members and their connections to eachother are not known.

1.3 Tribals v 1.0

- Addition of various tribes mostly Turkic, Slavic, Germanic, Finno-Ugric and a handful of Arabic ones but if I find others on regions I focus they'd be added as well.

First version of this branch of updates will add Turkic, Slavic and Germanic tribes in existence in 9th century that were located in Pannonia and
portions of Balkans under Bulgarian and Byzantine rule and a handful from de jure Croatia as well and is mostly complete.

Later versions I plan for this branch of updates will add missing Western Slavic tribes bordering Franks, various Turkic, Slavic and Finno-Ugric
tribes that bordered Rurikids, continuation of those tribes from first version that still existed in 10th and 11th centuries,
a couple or so Arabic tribes that were taken in by Byzantine Empire, two Greek ethnic groups one in Crete one in Morea peninsula
some Slavic tribes from Dalmatian coast, Croatia, Serbia.

1.4 Germania v 1.0

- Addition of missing members to the dynasties of Germanic tribes from earlier centuries that exist in game

- Addition of several dynasties of Germanic tribes from earlier centuries that are connected through marriage to families existing in game or were added by me. Primarily one Gepid, one Lombard and two Suevi families but also very small ones

This branch will probably not get that many updates because I have already worked extensively on it, adding many missing members to those families primarily the Ostrogothic Amals, Visigothic Balthings, Vandalic Hasdings, Frankish Burgundy(some mythical members such as Kriemhild), Frankish Merohingi and also some other Lombard and Visigothic families and also added several missing families, primarily a ruling dynasty of Gepids Two Suevi royal families, one Lombard dynasty and some smaller ruling families for several other tribes. Work also continues on a few smaller families, some Lombards and Visigoths. If I come across any others I would also add them in the future

1.5 Runsten

- Addition of several 11th century families known through runestones. Primarily the family of Varangian captain Ragnvaldr Ingvarsson, who belonged to higer nobility and may even have been a member of Munsö family and the family of Estrid his father's second wife and several families that were connected to their families through marriage and some families that may or may not be connected to them.

1.6 Saxons v1.0

- Addition of missing members to Saxon families.

This branch will be done through several versions, one family at a time. First family to be done is Immedinger, descendants of Widukind.

So far I have added all the Billungs and Immedingers I could find well as some of the Ekbertiners.

1.7 Damn Faithless Imperials

- Addition of emperors before Constantinian dynasty, so essentially those who are still pagans although the main reason for seperating the emperors in to two groups was to group them as before and after Tetrarchy.

1.8 PopPa 1.0

- Addition of families of Popes and Patriarchs. This will ocur in several versions but I've not yet decided how to group them who will be in each group, whether to exclude some from before a certain date unless they are connected to a family that already exists or perhaps give up on this idea and only finish what I've started

Work completed so far includes for the Popes:
Popes Gregory and Agapetus, were descendants of Felix III (Felix II in game), connected them to eachother and added their known family members

For Patriarchs:

Patriarch Photius' family is mostly added including connections to earlier Patriarchs from his family. I will later on connect to later Patriarchs that also belonged to his family.

Connected Patriarch Germanus to Justinian dynasty. Although I couldn't find any statements regarding this connection, his nameas well as that of his father, Justinian are both common names in Justinian dynasty considering the high rank of his father, a patrician, it suggest that not only did he belong to Justinian family but also to a specific branch of it, that of Germanus' descendants

Family of Patriarch Michael Keraularios, maternal uncle of empress Eudokia Makrembolitissa

Family of Patriarch Ioannes Xiphilinos

1.9 Mercenaries and Defectors + DIO, Descent into Obscurity v1.0

- Addition of many people in 11th century from various ethnic origins -and their families if they are known to have one- that served Byzantine Empire as mercenaries or defected to Byzantine Empire. So far they include Bretons, Cumans, French, Lombard, Norman, Oghuz and Pechenegs.

Mercenaries and Defectors branch will probably be a one and done as I have so far added almost all the people I could find, will add more if I find any.

Descent into Obscurity branch of updates will add fictional descendants to various dynasties that seem to have died out but may have just faded into obscurity. So say someone who is known to have died at the age of 60 with a certain knowledge of having never married will not be given descendants whereas someone who is known to be married and last mentioned at the age of 40 with no knowledge of when he died or whether if he had any child or not is a candidate to be added. v 1.0 will add descendants to people died before 867 and add descendants up to 867, next update on this line will add descendants to various people that died between 867 and 1066 and perhaps continue people from 867 to 1066.

Will later in a post explain more on DIO

2.0 GH

- Addition of people, primarily Magyars, mentioned in Gesta Hungarorum

2.0 GAP v1.0 Georgians, Armenians, Persians

- Addition of missing members to several important dynasties of Georgian, Armenian and Persian origin such as Mamikonians, Arsacids, Bagrats, Sassanids etc.

I have already added numerous member to several such dynasties as part of first version, people that lived both between 867-1066 and died long before 867 but most of the people I've added so far are those connected through marriage to families that currently exist or families that I've added. Intention of this branch of updates is to add complete family trees for them. Each version will probably focus on just one family

Main sources:

Although I have used numerous sources, vast majority of the characters come from the first four sources listed below.

-Prosopography of the Later Roman Empire, from which most of the people from earlier dates come

-Prosopography der mittelbyzantischen Zeit

-Prosopography of the Byzantine World

-Dumbarton Oaks, which was used to find additional members for families

-Prosopography of the Byzantine Empire, although relatively few characters came from this, it contributed a good number of Byzantine and Lombard characters for the period it covers (641-867)

- Two books from Herwig Wolfram, "The Roman Empire and it's Germanic Peoples" and "History of the Goths", contributed to Amal, Balthing and Hasding family trees (which I've previously only used PLRE)

- Alan Cameron's "The House of Anastasius" Added significantly to Anastasius' family tree. Although the family is mostly structured as in PLRE, I've also taken elements from Alan Cameron's work, especially for later generations which it covered better.

- Most of the families from England, both Anglo-Saxon and Norse, comes from William George Searle's Anglo-Saxon Bishops, Kings and Nobles.

- For the Anicii family tree I've used a mix of Alan Cameron's Anician Myths and the work of August Friedrich von Pauly - Georg Wissowa

- For Mamikanoians and various families descended from them I've used a mix of Cyril Toumanoff's and Christian Settipani's works.

Below ar some additional sources used for just a single person or a few persons so I put them seperately
For Kupetra:

Peter and Sondoka:

For Konstantin Pacik, and also some other Byzantine defectors to Bulgaria that I haven't added because they are all from around Krum's time and had no mention of any family.

And finally, as I've told at the start of this post, this is intended to be used by people so anyone can use this in it's whole or parts of it, all I'll ask is to be given credit if it's used in a mod.

Note: Files below are slightly outaded as of 10/03 (last updated a few days ago) quite outdated as of 02/04, last updated a few days before 10/03. I will probably just remove them soon.

Reactions:
This post is reserved for explanations on some of the decisions I've taken, such as which theories I've implemented and why. Currently WIP:

Bulgaria:

Ancestors for Dulo:

- I've added a family tree of the Huns because Dulo family is claimed to be a descendant of them.

- I've also added a few members of the Ashina Clan because Külüg Sibir of the Ashina may have been the maternal Uncle of Kubrat.

For the Dulo family, apart from the missing members:

- I've added a fictional line of descent for Alcek/Alzeko, Kubrat's son who wasn't in the game, because he settled in Italy. He was at first allowed to settle in Ravenna by King of the Lombards and then sent to Benevento and even in late 8th century the there were descendants of these poeple in that region that spoke their own language along with Latin. Although it is also suggested that Kuber's group never went south and the Bulgars in the south were actually a previous group that was settled by the Byzantine Empire against the Lombards.

- I've also added another fictional line of descent for another son of Kubrat who was also missing, Kuber/Kuver. Kuber was settled in Pannonia as a subject of the Avars and he was appointed by their Khan as the ruler of Sermesianoi, a people of mixed origin descended from Roman soldiers and mercenaries, Slavic and Germanic tribes and Bulgars. Kuber and his subjects eventually rose up against.

For the Krum family, apart from the missing members:

- I made them a cadet of Dulo since they are believed to have descended from them.

- Zalan(exists in the game but not a member of the family) was a member of the family whose conenction is not known so I've added a fictional son to Enravota (previously missing) to serve as his father.

- Stefan "the royal relative" is thought to be a cousin of Simeon so added him as a son of Boris Mihail's brother Gavril because Dox already has a son (previously missing)

- I have made Saint Olga of Kiev, who was born in Pskov, a member of the Krum family, a daughter of Vladimir Rasate. There are several theories regarding her ancestry, and I've implemented two of them in a way. The first theory is that she was the daughter of Oleg the Seer and the second is that she was a Bulgarian princess, either the daughter of Vladimir Rasate or his brother Simeon the Great and was not from Pskov which was called Pleskov(Плѣсковъ) but rather from Pliska(Пльсковъ, romanized spelling: Plĭskovŭ ) the Bulgarian capital. I've made her the daughter of Vladimir Rasate with a daughter of Oleg the Seer, implementing both theories in a fashion.

-Adela, the mother of Rurikid brothers Boris and Gleb I've also added as a Krum since she is also theorised to be a Bulgarian woman and also theorised to be the daughter of Simeon.

- The wife of Klonimir from the Vlastimirovic dynasty was a Bulgarian noblewoman chosen by Boris Mihail and it is thought that she may have been a relative of Boris' family so I've added a daughter to Dox, Boris' brother.

-Maria, the wife of Ivan Vladislav(was previously missing) is theorised to be daughter of Boris II, so I've added her and made her a daughter of Boris II.

-Boris II's wife is also thought to be the descendant of a previous member of the Bulgarian royal family who defected to Byzantine Empire, so obviously this points out to Ivan son of Simeon, although I've only seen this suggestion in one source that I have since lost and I suspect there may have been some confusion here with the wife of Ivan Vladislav, but I've still added her as a descendant of Ivan.

For the Kometopuli, apart from the missing members:

- Kometopuli are thought to have descended from Krum family, with Vladimir Rasate and Gavril, the brother of Simeon suggested as their ancestors, so I've made Miroslava their fictional ancestor who was added as a daughter to Boris a son of Gavril, the brother of Simeon.

- I have also broken the Kometopuli family into two since it is theorised that the noblewoman Ivan married was Rhipsimia and Moses and Aron were actually his sons and David and Gavril Radomir were her sons from her second marriage to Nikola.

- I have also made them a cadet of Dulo.

-Ivac, or Ibatzes, the Bulgarian commander who is thought to be related to Kometopuli brothers I've added as a descendant of Moses for the time being.

Pincius' family:
- Pincius and his family are known from a church they funded/donated to in Croatia and are stated to be relatives of the Bulgarian Tsar who were exiled. I've added them as descendants of Roman, the brother of Boris II. Roman is said to be castrated by the Byzantines during his captivity. I've considered adding them as descendants of Plenimir, brother of Roman and Boris II of which there is little information besides his name but eventually went with Roman because of two reasons, even though he was castrated this was late in life and when they were first exiled from Bulgaria, they went to Mysia and Roman was made a magistros of Abydios which is also located in Mysia.

Kanbagatur family:

-Kanbagatur is a title, one Kanbagatur, Sondoka, is known along with his family thanks to his diplomatic mission to Papacy.

Kakvkhan family:

-Kavkhan is a title and was the most powerful man in Bulgaria after the Kanasubigi (proper title of the ruler of Bulgaria, later Tsar), the title is thought to be hereditary with members all coming from the same family, so I created the family from scratch using known Kavkhans. This is still WIP as I've yet to add members beyond 867, such as the famous Georgi Vojtech.

-Because the title is thought to be hereditary and some Kavkhans also being thought to be Ichirgu-boilas(another title) before having the title Kavkhan, I've decided to also make known Ichirgu-Boilas member of this family

- I've added a fictional Kavkhan woman as mother to Boris Mihail because Peter, a diplomat who was either Kavkhan or Ichirgu-boila, perhaps both in different times, was a relative of Boris Mihail.

-I've added Kupetra, goddaughter of Boris Mihail and the second wife of Vladimir Rasate (he was keeping two wives even after conversion, though I couldn't find the name of the first) and made her a daughter of Peter due to three reasons, first is her name, second is that Maria, the second wife of Simeon who was also the sister of George Sursuvul was probably the daughter of Peter considering one of the couple's sons is named Peter (Simeon also has a son Mihail from his first marriage which was previously missing) and George Sursuvul may have also carried the title of Kavkhan and the third reason is about the Ashinas. Ashina had a conjugal clan, Ashide, so since Peter, a member of the Kavkhan family's relation to Boris must be through marriage and wife of Simeon was also likely of the Kavkhan family, I went on with the assumption that perhaps the Kavkhan family and the ruling family also had a similar relation.

Konstantin Pacik/Patzikos' family:

- I've added Konstantin tou Patzikos and his family. He was a Byzantine defector to Bulgaria and was married to the sister(she was previously missing) of Kanasubigi Krum. He had at least one son with her and their son was old enough in 813 to join the campaign along with his father and uncle. Konstantin and his son was captured through deception in what was supposed to be peace negotiations and their later fate is unknown.

-I've added a fictional line of descent for Konstantin and Krum's sister because considering one of their sons was old enough to go campaigning, it is quite possible that they had other, younger children and there is a person in 11th century with the family name Pacik.

Families of Roman Emperors(and empresses in several cases)
Families of Emperor Leo I and Empress Aelia Verina, besides adding missing members including Aelia Verina:

-I've made Aelia Verina and her siblings including Emperor Basiliscus(who was the only member of the family that existed) descendants of the Huns because their nephew Harmatius was a brother of Odoacer/Odovacer the first (barbarian) king of Italy and Odoacer is thought to be a descendant of Rua/Rugila Attila's uncle and one of the theories on Odovacer's father Edeko, is thought to be from the Hunnic royal family as well. I may at a future time. There are several people who are descendants of both Germanic tribes and Huns and it is unsure on most of them whether it was their father who was the Hun and mother who was of Germanic descent or the other way around. Right now I've generally went on with Hunnic paternity but this may change as I add more Germanic characters.

Amorian Dynasty, besides adding missing members:

- Amorian dynasty was connected to a previous emperor, Nikephoros Logothete as the father or grandfather of Michael II was a cousin, I haven't yet worked Nikephoros Logothete's family so left the connection for the time being but added some fictional people to allow it, for the time being they are male but can change them.

- Katakylas was was Michael II's nephew, though it is not known whether through a sister or brother, I've went on with a brother and also added some of the members of Katakalon family, which I'll later expand on.

- Khurramite leader Theophobos Nasr or more likely his son who was raised in Constantinople married to either the sister of Theophilos or one of his wive's sisters. I went with Theophilos' sister as his sisters in laws also had known husbands.

- Theophilos, mentioned as a relative of both Michael III and his maternal uncle Caesar Bardas I've added as a distant member and married to the possible second daughter of Caesar Bardas, but I may remove this marriage and make him a cousin of Michael III and a nephew of Bardas through the other brother of empress Theodora, Petronas, because Theophilos was godfather of Petronas' children.

Argyros Family I've just added missing members

Emperor Apsimar's Family:

-I've added his brother(previously missing) as a Bolghar and his father(also missing) as a German because Apsimar's name is thought to be of either Germanic or Turkic origin.

Armentarius, Diocletian, Maximianus and Daza/Daia families, besides adding their missing members:

- Just a single decision here, Maximiana Theodora may have been the adoptive daughter of Maximian, I made her his daughter.

Constantinus dynasty, besides adding missing members:

-I've added a fictional son to Anastasia, the only child of Constantinus Gallus and his wife Constantina because Emperor Anastasius' mother Anastasia(or Arriana) and her brother Clearchus were grandchildren of her.

- I also intend on implemeting a theory regarding their ancestry later on, which I'll mention below in Gothicus family.

Constantius dynasty I've just added some missing members

Diogenes dynasty besides adding missing members:

- I've added Maria, a nun who was either the sister of Emperor Konstantinos Monomachos or Konstantinos Diogenes as a sister of Diogenes.

- Two possible children, a son and a daughter, from Romanos Diogenes' first marriage because it was said that for a condition of his release he promised his son's hand in marriage to a daughter of Alp Arslan and the same story is mentioned elsewhere as he promised a daughter for a marriage to a son of Alp Arslan, so I've went with both.

- I've added his two sons from his marriage to Eudokia Makrembolitissa even though they were born a few years later and her husband is still alive at this time, I did this because it isn't possible to start later than 1066 but may remove them.

Gothicus family:

-Crispus, a possible brother of the emperors Claudius II and Quintillus and her daughter Claudia I've added as members of the family. I've mentioned a theory of ancestry for Constantinus dynasty above, Claudia is possibly the mother or grandmother of Constantinus Chlorus, as I said I think of implementing this later on.

Anicia Gens: This really had a lot of choices that were left to me due to lack of information in some areas, I'll only highlight some bigger ones due to that.

- Although at least three members of this family (all closely related) exists in the game, none of them bear the name. They are Pope Felix III and his two descendants, who are also Popes Agepatus and Georgius. I've added the family of the Popes, however lacking information on Pope Felix's ancestry besides him being an Anicii, I've attached him to some other Anicii. I was also going to add the mother and maternal aunt of Georgius, who were from gens Octavia but didn't as I couldn't find any members to connect, perhaps may add them later on.

- I've added several members of Petronia Gens because they are ancestors of some of the Anicii that have both become emperors (of the West) in their own right and related to other families (including some emperors). I've also added Petronius Probianus' mother who is thought to be the daughter of Marcus Aurelius Probus Augustus and made these Petronii member of Dalmatius family (Dynasty of Marcus Aurelius Probus Augustus in game) due to having added few of them.

- The husband of a later Proba, Probus was either Probus the nephew of Anastasius or another Probus who was also a member of Anicia gens, I've added with Anicia gens

- Germanus from the Justinian family(first of the several with the same name, whose father's name was not known and is added by Paradox as also Germanus) was also related to the Anicii and it is thought he either married an Anicia for his first wife or his mother was an Anicia, I went with the mother.

- Hypatus, the son of Anastasius' sister was also thought to be married to an Anicia so I've also added an Anicia wife for him.

As said there were several things to decide while making them so I've just highlighted some I deemed to be more important and even then I may have missed a few here.

Heraclius' dynasty, besides missing members:

- First thing to decide here was his ancestry, I went on with Cyril Mango's theory that he was a descendant of Heraclius of Edessa, I didn't implement the theory that he was related, as in descendant, to Arsacids, because through the marriage of Constans II to Fausta, they do have a relation.

- Heraclius' second wife and niece Martina is said to be the daughter of his sister with her first husband Martin in some sources and the daughter of an unmentioned brother of Heraclius in others, I've went on with the sister but also added an extra brother to represent this possibly unmentioned brother.

- Martinakius family, which Eudokia Ingerina is also a descendant, most likely through her mother, I've added as descendants of Heraclius and Martina through their son Theodosios. I've went on with this due to several reasons, first is althıugh Christian Settipani claims they are descended from an unnamed brother of Martina, son of Martin, however Martina has only one known brother, Stephen, and he is not the son of Martina's father Martin but son of Eutropius, her mother Maria's second husband. Theodosios was a deaf and mute and therefore he was ineligibel to become emperor thanks to which he was spared the mutilation(including castration though not all may have been castrated) other sons of Martina suffered and he was also married, to Nike, sister of Niketas the Persian, so a perfect candidate to have a line continue.

- Anastasia, wife of Konstantin IV may have been the daughter of Heraclius' bastard son Ioannes Athalaricus, so I've made her as such. Ioannes himself is thought to be the son of a daughter of Caeser Germanus from Justinian family so I made that as well.

Continuing with the Martinakios family and also Inger family, there isn't too much concrete information on either of them, so unless they explicitly contradicted eachother, I've simply implemented all the theories I could find, which led to some intertwining, however I kept it just like that because considering the several close kin marriages within Heraclius' family, it felt appropriate to have some in their cadet as well.

Justinian dynasty, really wasn't that much to decide on this family, although I added many missing members, there weren't many theories on them, few that were:

- As previously stated the mother of Germanus being an Anicia and mother of Ioannes Athalaricus being a daughter of Germanus (son of the earlier one).

- There are several people with name Germanus and there is some confusion on who is who, whether some are the same person, or different persons from the same family or even people from different families entirely, I've mostly solved it by accepting how Prosopography of the Later Empire interpreted it.

Erotikos-Komnenos Dynasty:

-There are two theories on their origin, one is that Manuel Erotikos Komnenos is the first member of the Erotikos family who started bearing the surname Komnenos, which comes from the village of Komne on Thrace and the second is his mother was a member of the Erotikos family and his father a member of Komnenos family. I've went on with the latter due to two people both bearing the surname Erotikos, Theophilos the Eparch of Constantinople in 947 and Nikephoros who was assigned as Geometry teacher of Konstantinos VII being related through marriage and one, most likely Nikephoros bearing the surname of his wife. So I added Theophilos and a fictional daughter as a wife of Nikephoros. All the other Erotikoi I found I've added them as from the dynasty of Komnenos with the intention of being a cadet.

Konstantinos, Kurkuas, Lekapenos dynasties I've just added missing members.

Makedon family, besides adding missing members:

-I've added Basil Rector as son of Basil's brother. This Basil was a son of a Bardas and this Bardas was thought to be either the brother of Basil or the brother of Sabbatios/Symbatios the Armenian who was the strategos of Thrakesion and son in law of Caesar Bardas, the maternal uncle of Michael III.

You should seriously consider making this a mod.
I appreciate all the tremendous work and research you've put in all of this.

Thanks! I considered it at one point but decided not to due to a few things, the first and easiest to solve is that I don't know how to, this can easily be remedied
the second is I would need to keep it updated and I do this in my free time, at the start of the last month I expected I wouldn't be able to contribute as much as I did but had more free time on my hands than I thought I would have but it was an exception and being a student it will generally not be the case(In fact after next week I am guaranteed for a very busy month), so I probably wouldn't be able to keep updating this for every update the game receives, another thing is there are many other mods the main focus of which is not exactly adding characters but may still need to make some changes to the history files so there could be compatibility issues, I can't expect people to choose my mod which would just adds characters over mods that add many functionalities, what I can do instead is post these so any modder that wants to add more historical characters on top of their mod can do so.

Do you understand how the DNA stuff works and the genes. I made myself a character with the portrait editor but when I load the game the character looks nothing like the one I made (I placed all the info in the DNA folder then made sure that in the character entry DNA = name_of_character).

It should look like this on the history files for the character:

Characternumber= {
name = "Character name"
dna = dna1
dynasty = dynasty
religion = religion
culture = culture
1.1.1 = {
birth = yes
}
1.1.1 = {
death = yes
}
}

And this in the dna files:

dna1 ={
portrait_info = {
genes={

}
}
enabled=yes
}

That's as far as I know. Perhaps the name in the dna file doesn't match with that of the name of dna under the character?

These are my 2 files I cant find any issue yet the character is still not the same like the one I made. I can give you discord if you are up to so you can have a look.

Although I haven't kept with the explanations, I've updated the file in the first post several times(including today) with more people, families and some corrections. I hope to continue the explanations at a future time but right now, whatever free time I have, I use it on adding more families and people.

Updated with some more families and finally added a list of content in the first post. I'll be adding a few more families in the next days but after that I'll stop adding new characters at least for this semester, though I will occasionally make a pass to correct erros/mistakes and add connections that I may have overlooked. I also intend of making the posts about decisons on theories etc.

Updated this again with some more families, especially imperial ones. Should update the list of the families too if I can spare time on that. I will probably also add(in a week or two) a file for my work (mostly fictional characters as names are rarely given) to represent various Slavic, Germanic and Turkic tribes and groups that are currently not represented in the game.

So far the work on the tribes include several Slavic tribes in the Balkans, most of them missing from the game entirely but a few of them are branches of two tribes that exist in the game, a branch of Berziti(Betula in game) called Brsjaks and three branches for Dregoviches.

Several houses to represent the Frankish and Bavarian/South german groups that fled to the Avars and were settled by them in Pannonia and Transylvania and to represent Gepids that were still extant in along the Danube and Drava rivers and perhaps also Transylvania.

Some Avars to represent Avars that are said to be still in existence in Croatia in mid 10th century and Avars that fled to the Franks and were settled in Bavaria.

2-3 Bulgar tribes.

I've added MOST of the missing families that I intended to do as well as families that did exist but lacked members, so I decided that I should make a list of families that I definitely intend to post within the next few weeks/months their current progress and why I'll be adding them. Will probably update this in the future:

- Apion family: currently half complete, depending on how much time I have, I may finish it within a couple of weeks. I'll add them because they were connected through marriage to Justinian dynasty Family tree from the PLRE is done. There are a few members I haven't yet added because their connection to main branch isn't known.

- Ghassanids: Recently started, perhaps would be complete in a few weeks. The portion that I'm intending to add I may finish next week. I'm adding them because Nikephoros I is claimed to be a descendant of the Ghassanids. Done. Will probably add some more members later on.

- Kindaites: Recently started. Adding them because a Kindaite princess was married to a Ghassanid Discontinued fpr now, perhaps I may continue in the next few months

- Lakhmids: Recently started. Adding them because of a marriage between Lakhmids and Kindaites and also the abbadid dynasty of Seville claimed descent from Lakhmids so I may extend it to them as well. Discontinued it for now,perhaps I may continue in the next few months.

- Spanopoulos family: Almost complete, will probably be done tonight if I can take a look. Adding them because in 1090s they were intermarried with Serblias family, another family I've added from scratch . Done.

- Family of Saint Philaretus: Just started today and made good progress, added all the members I could find so far (around 30) must find death/birth dates if possible so a couple of days at the very least. Adding them because a member, Maria, was married to Emperor Konstantinos VI and one of her sisters was married to Lombard Grimoald. Theoktiste Phlorina, mother of Emperor Theophilos' wife Theodora is also considered by some to be a member. Done and added.

- Family of Zoe Karbonopsina: Only found a handful of relatives including distant ancestors so far, may have to add some fictional members to fill the gaps. Adding her family because she is the fourth wife of emperor Leo VI

- Choirosphaktes family: Found many members from 11th century but very few from 10th century. Adding them because the wife of Leo Choirosphaktes (currently the only member in the game) was related to empress Zoe Karbonopsina(or to emperor Leon VI). A member from the 11th century is also related to another imperial family through marriage: Konstantinos Choriosphaktes is related to emperor Nikephoros III Botaneiates through marriage but whose wife is the relative of the other was not specified in the sources I found so far.

-Kontostephanos family: Just started yesterday, may perhaps finish before the weekend ends Done, would need to add more of their known marriage connections later on.

- Rurikids. Haven't started. Igor had several nephews mentioned in the Byzantine-Rus treaty of 945, at the very least I will add them. Rurikids were connected through marriage to both the Bulgarian ruling family and to more than one imperial family ( Macedons and Monomachos are the ones that come to mind) Done.

Added a family tree for Saint Philaretus, one of his granddaughters, Maria, married emperor Konstantinos VI. Their daughter Euphrosyne was later married to Emperor Michael II after his wife died. Another granddaughter, a sister of Maria was married to the Lombard Grimoald.

Added a family tree for Gepid Kings and connected them to Mundus by making them his maternal family. Giesmus, Mundus' father is thought to be Attila's son and either the son or husband of a female relative of Ardarik the Gepid king, I've added a daughter of Ardarik as his wife and mother of Giesmus. Family of Thurisind I've also added as part of Ardarik's descendants instead of a seperate family because he may have been Thraseric's son.

Added a partial Ghassanid family tree.

Next I will probably add more family members for the Hasdings, the Vandal royal family and after that may finish the Apion family.

I'll also start working on families of Lombard kings that are missing from the game but don't know when I'll add them. Also Thüringen family and Rugians.

Added a family tree of the Apions who were connected through marriage to Praeicta Justinian dynasty and also either to Anastasius' dynasty or family of Areobindus as Praeicta's mother, also named Praeicta was first married to an Areobindus and after his death in 540s to Ioannes, a member of Anastasius' family and she is the daughter of one of the two. Although it is not known which, Areobindus is more likely considering her marriage to Apion family and the dates of birth of some of her possible children.

May post members for Hasdings within a couple of days. After that I'll probably do Rugians and Thüringen or add some Rurikids.

Added missing members of Theodosian and Valentinian dynasties, added some relatives of Igor/Yngvar Rurikid, known through the Byzantine-Russian treaty of 945, added family of Dobyrnia, maternal uncle of Vladimir the Great, added two brothers to Rogneda as she had two brothers who were killed by Vladimir the Great along with her father Ragnvald, connected Ragnvald to the Ynglings because he may have been a member.

Added the Thuringian royal family. Currently it only had two members, children of Amalaberga whose father was Herminifrid, one of the three brothers who ruled together until Herminifrid killed his other two brothers.

Some of the dates are somewhat problematic, so I'll probably implement the theory that there were two kings named Bessinus and Bessinus who died in 464 was the uncle of Bessinus the father of Herminifrid.

Edit: Rugians royal family is also done and so are Hasdings(Vandals) I could find. Will probably update tomorrow. Next I will probably add the Suebian side of Ricimer's family.
