Since I am no longer in a hurry, I think it's also a good time to start posting pictures on how the family trees look. Not all of them of course since there are so many of them but some of the more prominent ones or interesting ones. So here's starting with Akra. I'll also add some explanations later on, after I've gotten some sleep.

So here is Akra dynasty, here only the members I've added, the existing branch is descendants of Halfdan on the top right.

20240214092705_1.jpg

Firstly this isn't final, but so very close to it I haven't touched it for perhaps over a month. There are only a handful of characters to add like a couple or so such as Angantyr as earlier ancestors and 1-2 descendants including a fictional one to be Horik I's son so Horik II would be his grandson.

Starting from the oldest character I've added, Sigfred:

Sigfred was the Danish king reign is thought to have started in 770s and ended in 794 or 804 with his death.

To the right of him is Gudfred, possibly his brother.

Geva whose name was perhaps an abbreviation of Gerberga and added as his daughter here is said to be Widukind's wife and she is was either a sister or daughter of Sigfred. Added her as a daughter here to make her a part of the same house.

Gudfred, added as his son here was either the son of Sigfred or a brother of Sigfred who was also named Gudfred. To the right of him is his unnamed brother who was the father of the brothers Hemming, Håkon, Angantyr, Sigfred and Reginold who I've named Haraldr.

This Gudfred was king from around 804 until he was murdered in 810 by one of his own sons due to his mistreatment of their mother and the rule passes to his nephew Hemming.

Of Hemming's brothers, Reginold had died in 808 fighting against Obodrites and of Hakon and Angantyr, there is no mention after 811 and they may may have died. Hemming dies in 812 and his final brother Sigfred wishes to succeed him but is immediately opposed by a rival, possibly pro-Frankish branch of the dynasty, that of Anulo and his brothers Harald Klak, Ragnfred and another Hemming who was left as a hostage of the Franks at the time. A civil war ensues and Horik and his 4 brothers flee to Sweden, Sigfred and Anulo battle it out, Anulo's side wins but both Anula and Sigfred are slain in battle so his brothers Harald Klak and Ragnfred are crowned co-kings they send messengers asking the release of their brother.

In 813 Horik and his 4 brothers, whose names are not known but thought to be Rolf/Rodulf, Angantyr, Kettil and Ragnar, return with their followers and expel Harald Klak and Ragnfred and start ruling together. Between 813 and 827 3 of his brothers die at unknown dates and in 827 with Olaf's death he becomes the sole king. Horik has at least 5 nephews from his 4 sons although only one is known by name, Guthrum/Guthorm. In 850 Horik partitions his king into 3 between himself and two of his unnamed nephews and the other two unnamed nephews were possibly already dead by then. Guthrum had been exiled at an unknown time and returns in 854 claiming the kingdom and a huge battle which is said to have lasted 3 days happen in which many great chiefs are killed as well as Horik, his two nephews who had became kings and Guttorm. Another Horik, son or grandson of Horik I was the only eligible claimant remaining. This Horik, Horik II or Horik the child as he was called since he was born in 840s and became king as a child then married one of Guttorm's daughters whose names are not known and is said to be the father of Canute, ancestor of later kings and Ragnhildr the mighty, who married to Harald Fairhair.

Horik II dies sometime between 864 and 873 and two brothers, Sigfred and Halvdan whose connection to the family are not known but were almost certainly members judging by their name become king. Halvdan is possibly identical to a Halvdan who died at sea in 877 and Sigfred is thought to be either the Sigfred who died in 887 or in battle of Leuven in 891.

Burghard, a relative of Horik II is an advisor of Horik II and was also an advisor to Horik I. His exact connection is not known but I have added him as an additional nephew.

And here is the entire dynasty

A small progress report, I am perhaps about a fifth of the way controlling the characters I've added. I'm crosschecking them in the game, from the history files I've added and my notes on them or sources so it is time consuming. If I had more time to spare I could finish it in a week perhaps and then do a second check in another week for anything I may have missed the first time but since I can't spare as much time I am hoping it would be done in about a month as previously said.

As always, will be updating the files on the first post(within an hour or two or tomorrow at worst) for those who would like to play with them now. Will make a small post when I update the files about a major change that I may or may not keep.

First post updated with all the final additions, Billung family, Skleros family, remainder of the Immedingers, family of Æthelstan Mannessunne and his wife and a few smaller additions.

Now for the major change: There is now a second file for changed characters, all the characters from Krum (Balgarsko in game) and Kometopuli dynasties moved there as I have made both dynasties into cadet houses under Dulo dynasty. It is now a huge dynasty starting all the way from Balamur/Balamber the first Hunnic ruler whose name is known. I forgot about it but I was also going to add a few more houses for the Kometopuli since at least two branches became rather prominent, Alosuianos and Aaronios families who are descended from Ivan Vladislav's two sons, Alusian and Aaron and a third branch, Radomir, either descended from Gavril Radomir, or more likely from Radomir, another son of Ivan Vladislav, also became somewhat prominent.

I am unsure whether to keep this change or not as it takes a couple of seconds to open the dynasty tree in 1066 start and in 867 Bulgaria gets named "Krum" instead of Bulgaria. I may at least make the Huns another dynasty so it won't be as crowded.

Another small progress report, I had some time in the past two days and I am now a little over a quarter of the way controlling characters I've added. Besides my own errors I've also spotted a few things from Paradox such as duplicate dynasties and characters etc. and when I have more free time before continuing with the controls I will fix at least some of them:

- Previously I had spotted and mentioned Thuringen. This requires sometime because one of the duplicate dynasties also need to be broken into at least two but more likely three dynasties that has nothing to do with eachoter. So I'll be leaving it for later.

- I'm not sure if I mentioned them before, there are two Kamateros dynasties in the game, one in 867 start and one in 1066 start. These are not to seperate dynasties but a single one. I'll connect these two and move into one dynasty but connection will mostly be through fictional ones because although the first known member is from 9th century and a son is also known by name, after them there are very few, if any, known members until 11th century. It should've been the first thing I did with the family but unfortunately didn't do it back then. Although it is very simple thing to do, just addition of several generations, it may take some time as I may use these additional generations to branch out the family some more.

- There are two members of Pegonites dynasty in 11th century that are not connected to eachother and has given different dynasties, one, Eirene is given Pegonitissa which is the feminine form of Pegonites and should have been under the same dynasty. I have also added several members to this dynasty but previously I have missed the male member so made a duplicate dynasty of my own and with several members of the dynasty bearing the same name and Paradox placing people in all the wrong places, must spend some time to find just which of them Paradox intended him to be.

Besides the duplicates another thing requiring some time is the Doukas dynasty which I've previously mentioned. It should also be broken into at least 2 dynasties that are connected to eachother on the female line. I will probably also leave it after controls.

While I said I am done with additions for the time being, I may make some additions for Liudolfingers. I have previously added two members to the dynasty because I was going to move a person from a different dynasty that was their brother but left it at that for the time being. I don't know when I'll make this change as it involves three different dynasties (Slavinkovec, Premyslid and Liudolfinger) in the form of additional members and moving members between dynasties. I may probably do it when I am close to half way done in controls.

Finally there is an issue that I won't touch until after I release this as a mod, some of the families I had to create only through the known members as the nature of the connections between members weren't recorded, I may take several more passes at them, rearrenging members and perhaps even adding some fictional ones here and there so they would look more accurate with firstborn sons being named after grandfathers etc.

Here is another family tree I will try to post 1-2 of them every day or so. Family of Emperor Basil I.

This is final, well, almost, as there is one duplicate character I've added due to an error on the side of PDX. I will correct them before release. Basil's supposed descent from Arsacids I consider adding but I'm unsure for the time being and if I do it, it will be done much later, after release and along with others as part of "GAP" line of updates.
But at the very least I will add Maiktes' wife, a daughter of a Leon who belonged to the same family as Maiktes and will do it before release.

20240218170822_1.jpg

Hmayeak/Maiktes was Basil's grandfather. Sabbatios, uncle of Basil here is an uncle whose name is not known his son was named Leon or Asylaion.

Basil has two known brothers Marianos which Paradox added but wrongly made the father of Gregoria and Bardas. A third brother, Symbatios/Sabbatios is also named by some but this is most likely not true as this Sabbatios who was in Basil's circle for a while was named as a brother of a Bardas and this Bardas is probably confused with Basil's brother Bardas. This Sabbatios was strategos of Opsikion and was son-in-law of another Bardas, Caesar Bardas the maternal uncle of Emperor Michael and under Michael III's orders murdered his father-in-law together with Basil, however he rebelled against Michael due to Basil being raised as an emperor, so his brother Bardas and Basil's brother Bardas were most likely not identical.

Anastasia the sister here is a fictional addition of mine, Christophoros the Domestic of the School (from 872 or 878)was related to Basil through marriage to a Basil's female relative but the identity of this woman is not known I previously thought of making him the husband of Basil's daughter Anastasia but due to the possibility of him being domestic of the schools in 872 and therefore possibly also being married to Basil at that time, I added a sister who would be adult at the time and pulled the marriage back to 867.

Going forward with Basil's brother Bardas, the confusion of two Bardases, the brother of Sabbatios and the brother of Basil also continues here, as Basil Rhaiktor (Basil the Rector) was the son of one of these two Bardases and it is not sure, however due to his name it was most likely the brother of Basil. Basil Rector had a son, named Bardas and this Bardas was the father of Gregoria, wife of Pantherios(possibly Photeinos) Skleros. Paradox has added Gregoria but made her daughter of Marinos instead of Great-granddaughter of Bardas. I will remove my duplicate addition and move her to where she should be.

Basil most likely had a son named Bardas/Vardas who died very young and this son was most likely from his first marriage. With Eudokia Ingerina he had three daughters who became nuns, Maria, Helena and Anna although it is also suggested that Maria is born from an unknown woman after Eudokia's death. Two of his sons with Eudokia, Leon and Stephanos were almost certainly sons of Michael III so I consider adding bastard secrets for them (these would be known to Basil if I do it) and although his birth date is added correctly (unlike his real father Michael's death date) I may also move Stephanos birth date earlier so he would exist in 867 start date and the bastard secret would be meaningful or give Eudokia a pregnancy from Michael in 867 start.

Emperor Leon VI was married 4 times (only Zoe Karbonopsina existed before I added the rest):

- His first marriage was to Theophano from Martinakios family which descended from Emperor Heraclius. Theophano was chosen by her mother in a bride show and was a relative of Eudokia Ingerina as Eudokia's mother also belonged to that family and although it is claimed by some sources Eudokia was a sister of Theophano's father Konstantinos this is not thought to be true as they would be cousins and a marriage between an emperor and such a close relative would be mentioned and also it is claimed that Eudokia learned of her parentage only after that she chose her (but she did know that she came from the same city as her) which would further support the relation being distant. Besides being descended from Emperor Heraclius Theophano may also have been descended from the Amorian dynasty as the unnamed member of the Martinakios family who was married to a female relative, most likely an aunt, of Emperor Michael II was possibly Konstantinos' father. From this marriage he had a daughter, Eudokia, who was born in 890 and died in 892.

- His second marriage was to Zoe Zautzina, daughter of a Stylianos Zautzes who is theorised to be the son of a Strategos of Macedonia named Tzantzes as that was the also the name of one of his sons, so I went with the spelling Tzantzes. Around 893, perhaps after the death of her daughter, Theophoano retired to a monastery and Leo took Zoe, the widow of a an obscure member of the court named Theodore Gouniazizes, she remained his mistress until Theophano's death in November 897 and after that they married. From this marriage he had another daughter named Anna(existing in game).

- In 899 Zoe also died and in spring 900 Leo married a third time to Eudokia Baiane, a member of the Baianos family which was probably of Bulgar(Turkic or Slavic) origin although I connected them to Avars for the time being due to several Avar Khans being named as such and last known Avar Khans all being christians (although they were baptised by Franks). In April 901 Eudokia died while giving birth and they had a stillborn son, an alternative telling has the son living for a very short while after death and being given the name Basil.

- His fourth and final marriage was to Zoe Karbonopsina, a relative of Theophanes the Confessor, Theophanes' sister Maria being the mother of the strategos of Sicily, Photeinos who was grandfather or greatgrandfather of Zoe. Her family was possibly also connected to Leo through other marriages, Leo Choriospaktes who was married to a relative of Leo was also a relative of Empress Zoe although it is not certain if it was Zoe Karbonopsina or Zoe Zautzina. Zoe and Leo had a son named Konstantinos(existing in game) and also a daughter who is named Anna or Eudokia.

Konstantinos, Leo's son married to Helene Lekapene/Lakapene and they had several children. Romanos and Theodora existed in the game, I've added Leo a son born c. 939 and died 944, and 4 daughters who became nuns, Theophano, Agathe, Zoe and Anna.

Romanos son of Konstantinos had 4 known children, three of which were in game, Basileios, Konstantinos and Anna. Eudokia(or possibly Helena) was another daughter, she was disfigured due to a disease in her youth and asked her father to be allowed to became a nun.

Konstantinos son of Romanos had 3 daughters, the empresses Zoe and Theodora who were in game and another daughter, Eudokia who was a nun.

Next two families I'll post will be Genesios family the family that Basil's first wife possibly belonged to and the Amorian dynasty.

To continue with the families. This is Genesios family, not really of much notice besides being possibly connected to Emperor Basil I. I had to take the picture a bit zoomed out to fit them all, next time may post it in two pics.

First known member of the family is Konstantinos Maniakes, who is most certainly not connected to Georgios Maniakes from 11th century as Georgios Maniakes' name is thought to have derived from the Turkic word Mank and his family also has people with Slavic names while Konstantinos was an Armenian and his epithet Maniakes comes from a Greek word. Konstantinos Maniakes was a descendant of a noble Armenian family however to which family he belonged to I couldn't find any mention of. He came as part of an Armenian delegation to Emperor Theophilos' court where he was left as a hostage and rose high due to his intelligence and strength. Konstantinos is claimed to be a relative of Basil, however this relation is most likely not through blood as Basil's family had been in Thrace for generations.

He had two sons, Ioseph and Genesios whose name I used for the family name to make obvious they are not related to other Maniakes family and also because later members of the family such as Ioseph Genesios, a historian, also using Genesios as a family name.

Maria, Basil's first wife may have been a genesios and this is probably why Konstantinos is claimed as a relative of Basil.

The rest of the members I won't go individually over as despite having members in high positions such as being Patrikios, Strategos etc. as I'm only showing it here due to their connection to Basil but all of them are real, historical people with no fictional ones to fill the gaps.

Next is Amorion family

20240219155344_1.jpg

Michael at the top is a fictional member I've added to connect two people below him.

His son, Georgius is either the father or grandfather of Michael II with different sources claiming differently, with Leon also claimed as the name of Michael II's father, I've made Georgius his grandfather and Leon his father. Georgius is also said to be either uncle or cousin of Emperor Nikephoros Logothete, I've added him a fictional sister to make him an uncle, considering that Nikephoros is also claimed to be a member of the Ghassanids who took refuge with Byzantine Empire.

Second Leon, brother to Michael's father of Leon is an error on my part in naming which I'll correct naming him something else. He was close relative and friend of Michael II, whose name is not known, due to him being a close relative and mentioned to be older than him, added him as an uncle.

Papias, who I've added as a son to this second Leon whose name will change was another close relative of Michael II who had the position of keyholder and allowed Michael to sleep in his room when Michael was a prisoner in the palace.

Added as Papias' son, Theophilos, was related to both emperor Michael III and his maternal uncle Bardas, but since he wasn't mentioned in connection with other members of Michael III's maternal family, I've added him as yet another member of Amorios dynasty and gave one of Bardas' daughters as a wife to him to also connect with him.

Going back to the main line, the brother of Michael II here is another fictional character I've added to connect him with Katakylas who was either a nephew or a cousin of Michael II. Katakylas' descendants go all the way to 11th century (and later, though not scope of mod's timeline as no one born after 1066 can be seen) with there being important members in both start dates such as Leo Katakalon who was married to one of Patriarch Photios' nieces or Anna Gabala, married to Stephanos Katakalon. I may go into more detail on them in a later post.

Sister of Michael, another fictional addition is to represent a female member of Theophilos' family being married to a member of the Martinakios family. This member is thought to be an aunt of Theophilos' (and a sister of Michael II) whose name is not known.

Helene, sister of Theophilos is a claimed daughter of Michael II. I've also married her to Theophobos because either Teophilos' own sister or a sister of his wife Theodora was married to Theophobos the son of the Khurramite leader Nasr and because I've found names for all three of the husbands of Theodora's sisters, I've made her as the wife of Theophobos.

Finally, the brother and five daughters of Michael III. Michael had a brother Konstantinos who was born in either early 820s or early 830s and died before 836.

Same uncertainty of birth dates also apply to all of Michael's five sisters Thekla, Anna, Anastasia, Pulcheria and Maria.

Maria was betrothed to Alexios Mousele who was made Caesar, she died young but it is possible that the marriage actually took place and the couple had a daughter as it is uncertain who the father of a certain "Maria the daughter of Caesar" is, there being only 3 known Caesar's from this period Alexios Mousele and Michael III's two maternal uncles Bardas and Petronas. I've had them married and added a daughter (added a Maria as daughter to all three Caesars).

The other 4 sisters were sent off to a monastery by Michael III, however when he arranged Basil to divorce his first wife and marry with Eudokia Ingerina so Michael could easily continue his affair with her, he recalled his eldest sister and gave her as a mistress to Basil.

A small update, didn't have much time to check for errors but about a third is done. I've also spotted three families from BE that I had notes on but somehow forgot adding. I've started on them and would finish them within the day if I can work on this.

Triphyllios family, a family with two best known members living during empress Eirene's reign,Niketas a Patrikios and also Domestic of the Schools and his brother Sissinnios also a Patrikios. It has several recorded members living all the way up to 11th century.

Hephaistos family from 11th century which had a single member existing in game, Theophylactos who later become Archbishop of Ohrid. He had two brothers, at least one niece and possibly at least one sister.

Also Agalestos family which has a single member in 867 start but outlived the empire. Although there aren't that many members known of this family and I couldn't find a single one for 11th century so it will mostly have fictional members after 867 start (several known members from that time).

I also intend to add more people who had no known family but held important offices and were alive in 867 or 1066. But this is for after release and also intend to go family hunting some more after release, at the very least I intend to add every single family that existed(or connected to other existing families) around 867/1066 that I could find in the source below but this is also after release.

I have also started on another small addition, connecting the Etichonen dynasty to Burgundy as one of two daughters of Sigismond (only one daughter exists currently) was married to an ancestor of the earliest member in the game.

Another small progress update, I got a bit bored of checking for errors so instead added a few more people, Ragnacaire and his brothers who are descendants of Chlodion the Hairy and were members of the Merovingian dynasty but how exactly they were related to him is not known. I've went with the first hypothesis below.

Also some more Norse additions, Eysteinn Beli who is claimed to be a son of Harald Wartooth and his daughter he tried to marry to Ragnarr, two daughters to Ragnarr because he is said to have two daughters with his first wife, may add some more later on because he is said to have more daughters with other wifes. Also working on a family for Aslaug, it will be a mishmash of several legends regarding her.

Dynasty of Heraclius. I won't delve into his ancestry much as it is subject to change after release, I'm considering of going with the Arsacid theory on his ancestry.

20240224011246_1.jpg

I've hidden as many of the duplicate descendants as possible so it would fit the screen, the family married a lot within itself.

Again, only the people I've added:

Heraclius was named after his father, Heraclius the Elder, who died soon after learning that Heraclius became emperor. Heraclius the Elder had a brother, Gregoras, who was a Patrikios and Gregoras had a son, Niketas.

Going with Niketas' branch: A Patrikios named Gregorius/Gregoras, a relative of Heraclius is thought to be a son of this Niketas due to the name of Niketas' father.
This Gregoras had a daughter whose name is not known, after the battle of Sufutela she was captured and while bein taken to Egypt, either fell from the camel or threw herself from the camel and died.

A second Niketas a Patrikios is also thought to be a son of this Niketas. This Niketas had a daughter, Gregoria, who married to Heraclius Constantine, Heraclius' only son from his first wife Fabia Eudokia.

Finally a man named Sergius who was Patrikios and Dux Palastinae in 634 was either a bodyguard or a son of a man named Niketas who is thought to be the same Niketas as the cousin of Heraclius.

Going with Emperor Heraclius' siblings:

Heraclius had a brother named Theodorus who was a curopalates. Theodorus had two known sons, one, Gregoris, who was a hostage in court of Muawiya for a time
and the other also a Theodorus who was part of a coup against Heraclius in 637 and was mutilated as punishment but survived.

Heraclius had one known sister, Maria whose first husband is said to be a man named Martin and that the couple were parents of Martina, Heraclius' niece who was his second wife. After her first husband died, Maria married for a second time with a man named Eutropius and had another child, a son named Stephanus who was sent to Avars as a hostage in 622 along with other notables including Heraclius' bastard son.

Florentius is to represent the suggestion that Martina may have been the daughter of a second, unmentioned brother of Heraclius instead of Maria. The son I've added to him is a fictional one I was going to remove but forgot. Removed after this post.

During his time in Africa, possibly before his first marriage, Heraclius had a bastard son, Ioannes Athalaricus. Ioannes Athalaricus has two theories regarding his descent, one is that his mother was a daughter of Germanus from Justinian's dynasty, this Germanus was the son of Germanus and his second wife, Matasuentha of the Amal dynasty. Second theory is that he is a descendant of the Artachis of the Thuringian royal family, who was the son of Amalafrid who fled to Byzantine Empire with his mother (also a descendant of Amals) currently I've made his descent from Germanus because I've only recently learned of the other theory, later on I'll also work on it, implementing both theories. Anastasia, the wife of Konstantinos IV is said to be his daughter.

From his first wife Fabia Eudokia, Heraclius had a daughter, Eudokia Epiphania. She was betrothed either to Khazar Khagan Ziebel or his son, but on her way Ziebel (or her betrothed) died. She may or may not have married to Khazar Khagan Irbis but died before January 639

Before going forward with his son from first marriage, Emperor Konstantinos, I'll go with his children with his niece-wife Martinakia.

Their first son was named Fabius or Flavius and was born with a paralyzed neck, he died young.

Their second son was Theodosius who was born deaf and mute. Theodosius was married to Nike of the Mihranid dynasty, a sister of Niketas the Persian and daughter of Farrukhan "Shahrbaraz". Theodosius was spared the mutilation his brothers suffered as being born deaf and mute he could never have made a bid for being the emperor. Martinakios family who were descended from Heraclius and Martinakia could be descended from this couple because this is the only one of the siblings known to be married and I made Martinakios family descend from them.

Third son was most likely Konstantinos, declared Caesar in 615 but died young.

David Tiberius, was most likely the fourth son who was mutilated after Heraclius' death but survived his mutilation.

Martinus was most likely the youngest son who was castrated and died because of it.

As for their daughters they had a daughter named Anastasia, who was likely identical to another daughter named Martina, a daughter named Febronia who most likely became a nun and a daughter named Augustina which I forgot to add but added after this.

Going forward with descendants of Heraclius from his son with his first wife:

Konstantinos III and his wife Gregoria( Daughter of Niketas, mentioned above) supposedly had a daughter, Manyanh, who married Yazdgrad of Persia and they also had a second son, Theodosius.

Konstans II was married to Fausta, daughter of the General Valentinus who was of Arsacid descent and besides Konstantinos IV they had two sons Heraclius and Tiberius, whose noses were slitted on the orders of their brother so they couldn't make a claim on the throne.

Konstantinos IV was married to Anastasia (daughter of Ioannes Athalaricus) and besides Ioustinianos, had a second son named Heraklios.

Ioustinianos and his Khazar wife had a daughter Anastasia who was betrothed and most likely married to Tervel in exchange for his help in regaining the throne. Anastasia is thought to be the mother of Tervel's son Telerig. Ioustinianos also had a son Tiberios who was killed at the age of 6 by Bardanes Philippicus.

Also a small progress report, I made some more corrections but again progress in that is slow is and I'm still nowhere near half. I was thinking of doing two passes and then release but at this rate this won't end in even two months. I don't come across that many errors and missing connections but every now and then, as with one example in the above post, there are some women who are supposed to be men or the other way around and some characters missing connection with their mother that I've added. So in light of these I think I'll go on for a couple of weeks or so more and if progress is still slow, will decide whether to release it just as is (more likely option) or go for a week or two more.

I'll be making two seperate versions, one will be made as a submod to Cultures Expanded make use of the vast amount of cultures they add, this will come first and second will be a vanilla version which will come later as it requires me to convert back some characters cultures and I don't want to focus on that before correcting most of the errors. Another thing that I've yet to start but will consume a lot of time is to adding explanations (within history files) to characters. Many of the characters already have that but the earliest ones I worked on mostly don't have any, along with some of the characters that I've worked on the past couple of weeks( which isn't that many). This I'll also do after release so no impact on it but it means fewer/slower additions after release.

Another small progress report, Ancestors of Aslaug are coming along nicely. I was going to mix several versions of Sigurd and Brynhildr, Aslaug's legendary parents, to give them an ancestry of several cultures, but went on just with Volsüng saga since it would mean adding a lot of characters. I may yet flavor things up a bit by mixing a small bit but probably not. I expect to finish the main parts of it within a day or two and after that will return to error checking. I'm also working on other members of Ragnar's family such as his missing sons, his missing wife etc. but they are not my main focus atm.

I was also going to post a picture of the Bulgarian ruling dynasty, but it is so huge that even breaking it into several parts is not enough. It starts all the way from Balamir/Balamber first Hunnic ruler known by name down to the Kometopuli who are still around and doing well in 1066 start and much later.

Dulo clan is said to have descended from Attila so I've added them starting from the earliest known member Balamir, Krum is thought to have descended from Dulo dynasty, which is already as such in game though they are given a seperate dynasty so I moved all of them into the Dulo dynasty under a cadet house and Kometopuli are also thought to have descended from Krum's dynasty, which, again, was already the case in the game but again were given a seperate dynasty, so I also moved them under a cadet house of Dulo. With addition of almost all the members of the Hunnic royal family I could find, additions to Danube branch of the Dulos, additions to Krum's dynasty and Kometopuli, it has become a huge dynasty with more than 250 members.

Unfortunately I couldn't make any additions to Volga branch as I couldn't find anything on them besides Cäğfär Taríxı which seems to be the source PDX also used. I will after release compare them to see whether if PDX skipped adding a few people from that.

I was checking for errors again and while at Wessex thought I should post a picture, this is how House Wessex looks like, I will make some additions to the parent dynasty, Cerdicing, sometime later but it will possibly only a few members for a while.

I don't have time atm so won't give explanations for the characters I've added, perhaps later. Tomorrow I may post a picture on Aslaug's family

Made some good progress the past day and reached around half in checks. Also I was thinking of doing it much later but added a families of a few more Roman emperors before the Tetrarchs, some of the ones with fewer members known and also working on Nerva-Antonine dynasty. Those after Tetrarchs are already mostly completed with the exception of a couple or so I haven't touched yet. Although I haven't added all the connected families in the Volsung saga, Aslaug's family (her ancestors) is almost done with a few touches left such as finding appropriate dynasty names to some.

Edit:

Since I mentioned I started Nerva-Antonine dynasty, Below is family of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, they were connected to Emperor Antoninus Pius through marriage.

20240227035154_1.jpg

Through his grandmother Rupilia Faustila, Marcus Aurelius was also possibly connected to Vitellius family. Rupilia Faustila was a daughter of Libo Rupilius Frugi(not yet added), who was married to Salonia Matilda, niece of Emperor Trajan but Rupilia was most likely not her daughter and is instead thought to be a daughter of Galeria Fundania, daughter of Emperor Vitellius. Galeria Fundania's husband had died in 70 and she was married again to an unnamed man, some historians propose that this man was probablly Libo Rupilius Frugi

Some more WIP:

Makedon Dynasty, again. Since I've changed a few things. Only posting how it looks in 867 because of dynasty showing as duplicate although I've made some changes after that as well such as moving Gregoria to her proper father.

I've added Maiktes/Hmayaek's(grandfather of Basil) wife whose name is not known but was the daughter of a Leo who was distant kin of Maiktes. But due to there being no common ancestor currently, it shows the dynasty twice starting from two ancestors. I'm still undecided whether or not to make them Arsacids but I will add a couple or so fictional generations so Leo and Maiktes has a common ancestor to fix how it currently looks.

Flavius Dynasty which previously only had 3 members. Below was a picture of family tree of Flavius dynasty, still WIP but since I completed afterposting that picture, here is the complete version. Emperor Domitian's wife, Domnicia Longina was a descendant of Julia the Younger on her maternal line which is something I'll eventually add but perhaps without going into much detail.

Aslaug's family, as told in Volsung Saga. Some of the families connected through marriage are also added but not all added yet. I'll probably add her a daughter or two as Ragnarr is said to have daughters as well. Also going to add missing spouses and children of Ragnarr(most of whom would be dead in 867).

Julio-Claudian Dynasty is mostly completed.

A few more people will be added to Octavian dynasty but won't go into too much detail. I will also add some maternal lines to show descendants that married into later families that exist in the game but this will definitely not be detailed and won't go around adding seperate dynasties to each of them, only enough to show members that married to later people.

Sadly you can't give characters birth dates before 0, so as much as I wanted it, I couldn't add Gaius Julius Caesar. I have made some characters born before 0 but died after it born a year or two after year 0, a solution PDX also went on with but Caesar's birth is 100 years ago and death is more than 40 years ago, so too far.

I will consider it but most likely won't happen as connecting the two requires three generations (Octavian's mother who is Caesar's niece, Caesar's sister and their parents) but I may yet add Atia, the mother of Octavian since I've already squeezed in his father and his sisters who also died before 0.

I've spent a bit more time adding new people than I should've in the past couple of days so several families with many members got completed/near completed even with no previous progress, like Flavius and Pius dynasties.

Family of Marcus Aurelius, previously only had two members. There are several other emperors whose families I've finished but won't post because they only have 1-2 members known. Most of the families from Nerva-Antonine dynasty I'll add fully are completed within these two days. Only one left is Emperor Lucius Verus' family I think, others I'll just add 1-2 members to connect with eachother.

Edit: So on progress of Nerva-Antonine Dynasty

Left half of the family tree in the link above is complete unless I missed something, top right quarter is complete and currently working on people from bottom right quarter. I am not adding every single people shown here (and adding some not shown here) but all the children of emperors (as well as some later descendants), all the siblings, all the uncles/aunts, at least one parent. So for example Libo Rupilius Frugi is added because he is the father of Rupilia Faustina, grandmother of Marcus Aurelius and also husband of Salonia Matidia, niece of Emperor Trajan but Salonia Matidia's father is not added.

I've completed the Nerva-Antonine dynasty as well I think. Also added more descendants to Augustus' family but nothing in detail, just straight lines that are connected with later emperors. I will eventually add all the children of his two sisters as I trace their descendants to see if there are connections with emperors in later generations but beyond that generation, I will only be adding lines that end up connecting with other emperors (or families of other emperors) and only enough people to make the connection.

Currently it looks someting like this
20240228222448_1.jpg

And without ever leaving the dynasty tree screen you can traverse from Octavian to several dynasties.

Through Domitia Longina, who is a descendant of Augustus with several generations, all female, you can go to Flavius Dynasty as she was married to Emperor Domitian.
20240228223210_1.jpg

20240228223402_1.jpg

And from there, through Titiana who is a member of Flavius dynasty through her mother, who a member of the dynasty through both her mother and father, you can go to Emperor Helvius Pertinax
20240228223857_1.jpg

Plautia, paternal grandmother of Lucius Verus is also possibly the daughter of Domitia Longina from a later marriage.

20240228224237_1.jpg

From Lucius Verus' dynasty, through the grandson of his sister Ceionia Plautia you can go to several others like the dynasty(Africanus in game) of Emperors Gordian I, II and III
20240228224345_1.jpg

Or Through the emperor himself you can go to Emperor Marcus Aurelius' dynasty as his wife was a daughter of Marcus Aurelius.

20240228224706_1.jpg

20240228224905_1.jpg

Through Marcus Aurelius wife you can go to the family of emperor Antoninus Pius, her husband and through their daughter who married to Marcus Aurelius, get back to his family again.

20240228225323_1.jpg

Through Marcus Aurelius' mother you can go to Emperor Hadrian as Hadrian's mother was her aunt.

20240228225643_1.jpg

Through Hadrian's Grandmother you can go to Emperor Trajan's family as she is Trajan's aunt but you can also do that through Hadrian's wife as her mother Salonia Matilda is Trajan's niece.

20240228225845_1.jpg

Through Salonia Matilda's husband (not father of Hadrian's wife) you can go to Emperor Vitellius' family as his first wife was a daughter of Emperor Vitellius

20240228230656_1.jpg

And through their daughter go back to Emperor Aurelius' family and having returned there, go to the family of brother emperors Quintullus and Claudius as their third brother Crispus (who may just be a fabrication) was married to a granddaughter of Lucius Verus' wife from a second marriage

20240228231114_1.jpg

From there you can go through Emperor Quintillus to Emperor Gallus Trebonianus' family as Quintillus' wife was a daughter of him

20240228231209_1.jpg

But more importantly you can go to Constantinian dynasty as Crispus' daughter Claudia is claimed to be a mother or grandmother of Constantius
20240228231405_1.jpg

It certainly doesn't end here, it is possible (identity of some people are not certain as well as their connections) that you can go all the way to Makedon dynasty but I am somewhat tired so will continue this later on.

Updated the first post with the latest additions for anyone wanting to slap this into their game. I think I'll be making some more additions before going back to checking for errors as I will be able to spend some more time on this in the next day or two. Probably at least some of Ragnar's missing family but perhaps some more emperors, priority being those connected to other emperors.

What... what is this? Could it be true? It is true! This is a family tree for the Triumvir Marcus Antonius, still WIP as more of his children are to be added but mostly complete besides that.

But it doesn't end there, for what use is a family tree for Marcus Antonius if it doesn't include a family tree for his mother Julia, distant relative of Gaius Julius Caesar?

20240229154829_1.jpg

This is WIP, it starts with Sextus Julius Caesar, common ancestor of Gaius Julius Caesar, Marcus Antonius and Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus (Born Gaius Octavian). and currently only the branch that goes to Marcus Antonius is there but within a day or two I intend to connect all three men.

I've previously said I'll most likely won't do this and I'm not exactly happy about adding them since almost all of these people were born and died before the earliest date assignable in game, 1 January of the year 1 so a whole lot of people are really squeezed together, date wise, but a few people I want to add are left in the air without Marcus Antonius to connect them to the other people I've added and I've decided if I'm adding Marcus Antonius, why not go all the way and connect Augustus, Marcus Antonius and Julius Caesar all. As for the people I'm adding, won't go into full detail yet but it includes Cleopatra (Cleopatra VII Thea Philopator) and her children with Marcus Antonius and having added Cleopatra, also going to add a couple or so generations of her ancestors to show that they umm... liked to keep it within the family.
