Hello, I've just bought the Hearts of Iron 2 game, with Doomsday expansion, and patched it to 1.2 I now want the best modded game possible. I'm already familiar with paradox games, and know how easy the basic game can be, so I want mods that are similiar in style to the AGCEEP mod for Europa Universalis 2(ie make it easier for the AI-controlled countries to carry out previous historical actions but without cheating - adding better map details and better AI , in particular). I've heard that the Stony Road mod just adds units out of the blue at various points via cheats, so I thought maybe the CORE mod might be the AGCEEP-like replacement I'm looking for. Is this correct? Also, is the CORE reasonably accurate by now, or does it still need a lot of work to be effective? And is CORE compatible with DAIM in any way?

Also, I've heard there are various Graphics mods out there. I've come across one for Stony Road, but can't find any details of any others. Can someone post a link to any other Graphics mods they know?

I think you'd like CORE in it's current form, even though we're far from finished... It's certainly playable, except for that over-agressive AI that's going beserk and DOW'ing half the world all of a sudden at times. But as long as you set your autosave to once per month you'll do fine (it isn't reproducible, but we will be tweaking the AI down somewhat to prevent it from happening). The main goal of CORE is to be as historically accurate as possible, but giving ahistorical alternatives. That doesn't include activating units 'simply because they were there', which is more the HSR kind of approach.
As to DAIM, I do recall some users having problems with the two combined. As CORE uses it's moddir directory it won't affect your regular HoI2DD environment at least.

Last but not least: graphics. Mostly known is GIP (AFAIK), which is modeled on HSR, but is usable for CORE as well. Having said that, CORE does have a completely different unit structure, which would give weird results at times (but not more so than with regular HoI2DD ). Up til now graphics have been at the bottom rung of the CORE ladder, so don't be surprised at 'No image' screens and misplaced unit and tech pics. That will change for 0.30, I hope. It's certainly one of my main chores on the to-do list for 0.30, and so far is progressing smoothly. And as far as I'm concerned that does include a 'CORE in color' add-on.

Thanks for telling me - I really like the idea of the future colour option - the greyness of the game is depressing. I think I'll probably wait a little while for CORE and others to update to 0.3+. My main concern is the improvement of the AI, as well as the graphics. I'll probably try to add my own music, especially for Germany and the UK, meanwhile.

Why wait for 0.3? The AI should be a lot better than regular DD, and besides we're interested in feedback whatever the case. CORE is pretty addictive as-is, without graphics and stuff. Come to think of it, I haven't played a regular game of Vanilla or DD since the release of CORE 0.10 early this year. And we've moved a lot since then... It would give you a general feel of where the mod is going anyway.

I'll add a question to this thread - the CCIP seemed rather interesting, but is it compatible with CORE? I mean, if I would instal CORE and then just replace the CORE China events with CCIP China events, would it be playable? I intend to have another shot at ComChi, after a rather failed vanila experience with them.

And by the way, what on EARTH does C.O.R.E. mean?

Well you might have some tweaking to do, especially the event ID's, and double check the ones linked to others, but you'd probably get it to work all right. Don't know what it will do gamewise though.

Oh, and CORE means Community of Open Resource Exchange. Don't ask me why, it just does. :)

I wouldn't mind having a go, in order to be able to report bugs and speed up the refining of this game, but the mouse pointer on the screen of my home computer fails half the time, which kind of disrupts the game. This is either due to a virus or due to my old computer breaking down, due to buying from a shoddy company - the mouse itself is fully functional. Anyone know of any good freeware antivirus software which doesn't just scan for free but also removes viruses, for free as well?
