Yes definitely something like that. I guess a version of the existing name list but without any European or American references in it and with Chinese references. I.e Earth could be renamed
Dìqiú but I suspect with the Iroqois being a world power, it would more likely be called Ohontsàke or something.

Hmm okay that makes sense.

Is this achievement compatible? :D

I'm not 100% sure as I don't play for achievements myself, but I am going to guess no because it adds in too much new code.

I love this mod too much. It has basically gotten to the point where I cannot play without it, because once you have conquered the galaxy as a race of dragonborn Parakeet people, you never go back.

If I may make a suggestion, Donjon actually has a Lovecraftian Weird Names generator. Have you considered using that?

VERSION 1.1.4 IS UP - DOWNLOAD ON THE STEAM WORKSHOP HERE!

This is a relatively minor update, only three new namelists and some bugfixes. However the big change here was to the names of some of the procedurally generated species. With some of my earlier namelists, I was unaware of the fact that the schemes I used for the procedurally generated species names in CANS were inconsistent with the ones used to vanilla. For instance, I had "Baklava" where vanilla would have had "Baklavan" or "Baklavian". Anyways, I've gone through my older code and tweaked it to be consistent with vanilla. You can see an example of some the better, improved names in the screenshot below with the proper -an, -ian, etc. naming schemes.

Anyways I will probably have one small update after this one before Asimov is released. Lastly, manual upload is provided in the first post as always.

Changelog for Version 1.1.4:

  • Added three new namelists:
    • Falmer (TES)
    • Fantasy 4 (Handmade)
    • Greek 2 (Fantasy)
  • Added some new ship and planet names to the Ancient Egyptian (Fantasy) namelist
  • Added a few new spawnable species names to various name sets
  • Redid some of the spawnable species names to better fit with vanilla grammar (i.e. “Baklava” → “Baklavan” where appropriate)
  • Fixed randomly generated AI using the Goblin 1 namelist not having any names for their leaders, etc.
  • Fixed a potential randomly generated AI empire using the Inca (Fantasy) namelist instead of the Italian (Fantasy) namelist
  • Fixed some species names spawning with Inca names instead of Forerunner names

Thank you! From the screenshots I've seen online of people who've used my mod, it seems that the Dragonborn namelist is quite popular.

Anyways, I am in fact considering doing several new namelists for the Molluscoids in the future (similar to what I did with the Avian namelists) and I've already looked up several Lovecraftian name generators for that, including the one you've linked, so you can rest assured that you'll be seeing more Cthululuululu silliness in the future.

A few suggestions and questions:
  • Is there a reason why you aren't encoding in UTF8-BOM? The game spits out errors about this, and (if I remember correctly) the devs even said to use UTF8-BOM for any text.
  • Rename 'Dragon (TES)' to 'Dovahzul (TES)' (source: http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Dovahzul)
The following few are in relation to the 'Forerunner' name list:
  • Several duplicate names in both the ship and leader lists.
  • Any ungrouped instance of 'Life' is not capitalized ('life'). This is in both the ship and leader names.
  • The ship/leader name 'Reflection and Retrospection' is not only duplicated once, but is also too long for the game to display.
  • Remove/rename the ship name 'Observing', as I'm sure I'm not the only one to be initially confused by it.
  • And last but not least, some additional planet names:
Acajou Amethyst Brass Aero Apricot Aqua Aquamarine Lime Tangerine Aureolin Bisque Bistre Coral Olive Bole Ube Noir Canary Capri Carmine Ceil Celadon Cardinal Carnelian Cerise Charcoal Cherry Claret Cordovan Cobalt Khaki Magenta Pastel Puce Scarlet Koamaru Ultramarine Fallow Plum Veridian Gamboge Iris Jasper Jasmine Jet Keppel Lapis Kobe Ochre Liver Mint Malachite Mandarin Neon Olivine Copper Periwinkle Peridot Phlox Pine Pistachio Phthalo Platinum Sienna Quartz Vale Ruddy Sage Shamrock Tuscan Wenge Wisteria Zaffre Pale Drab Tinge Ash Pewter

Thanks for the suggestions and the bugs.

I thought UTF8 was fine for namelists as all the other code in the the game is in UTF8 but on second look guess I was wrong so will have that fixed.

uesp.net which I generally find a more reliable source than the elder scrolls wikia uses "Dragon Language" and doesn't mention Dovahzul anywhere on the wiki proper, so it probably doesn't appear in the game officially so far as I am aware (or if it does it's not mentioned often). That aside, I think it'll also be easier for most users other than hardcore lorebuffs to recognize Dragon than Dovahzul anyways.

I've removed a few of the planet names as I tried to stick with more "beautiful" poetic sounding color names (Liver doesn't sound very pleasant :p) but kept most of them regardless, not quite sure why I missed some of those when I looked up color names haha.

Reflection and Retrospection also seems to work fine for me (such as in the name of the guy at the bottom here). Some of the names I've seen with the Forerunner namelist, for instance, do get cut off with a "..." at the end in the research screen for example but if highlighted will display fully and properly in the pop-up. Misread what you said, the error log told me it was just the ship name that was too long, so I've removed that.

Just as a heads up, though I haven't tested it per se, after quickly skimming through the new code in Asimov I do not forsee any issues running the current version of CANS with the Asimov beta (other than the game launcher saying it's not compatible). I will unfortunately likely be busy the week Asimov will come out, but will try my best to update CANS as soon as I can once it's out.

cybrxkhan: Tried it a few days ago and found that your mod create lots of errors in the error logs. Maybe you have fixed this since last time i checked, if not maybe you should take a look.

Yeah just took a look myself, I've fixed all the stuff it reported for the next version (it was all relatively minor stuff that wasn't game-breaking, though). Truth is given how useless CKII's logs were when I was modding CKII (it might be better now) and how I had to use a third party program to look for bugs in CKII, I never really bothered to look at Stellaris' error logs as I assumed they were the same, but I am pleased to have been proven wrong, Stellaris' logs are much more useful.

Glad i could be of help.

VERSION 1.1.5 IS UP - DOWNLOAD ON THE STEAM WORKSHOP HERE!

This is a minor update and the last before Asimov is out of beta. It should however work with the Asimov beta and Asimov once it comes out (I'll be very busy next week so not sure when I will have it officially updated to Asimov). I have included three new Molluscoid namelists (based on Lovecraftian name generators). A big addition to this version are a bunch of new names for army units. Some of them are more historically based if appropriate (for instance, in the Slavic fantasy list, Robot units are now called Robot Cossacks), others are more made-up. I've included two screenshots below to demonstrate what I mean with these changes. From testing it seems that the new army names will not affect old saves, only new games.

As always, manual download is available in the first post.

Changelog for Version 1.1.5:

  • Added three new namelists (all Molluscoid, based on Lovecraftian name generators):
    • Molluscoid 4 (Fantasy)
    • Molluscoid 5 (Fantasy)
    • Molluscoid 6 (Fantasy)
  • Added new Forerunner planet names (credits to @bigbantha)
  • Changed some army names in order to make them more diverse and interesting, including the following namelists: Apostrophe 1 (Fantasy), Apostrophe 2 (Fantasy), Aztec (Fantasy), Byzantine (Handmade), Chinese (Fantasy), Daedra (TES), Fantasy 2 (Fantasy), French (Fantasy), Goblin 1 (Fantasy), Greek (Fantasy), Greek 2 (Fantasy), Hunnic (Handmade), Italy (Fantasy), Mongols (Handmade), Nord (TES), Norse (Fantasy), Persian (Fantasy), Slavic (Fantasy), Spanish (Fantasy)
  • Changed encoding of most namelist files to be consistent with vanilla’s namelists
  • Fixed some duplicates and typos in the Forerunner namelist
  • Fixed Goblin 1 (Fantasy) and Vietnamese (Fantasy) premade fleet names

New update up, it's been a while!

As always, manual download is available in the first post.

Changelog for Version 1.2.1:
  • Added three new namelists: Basque (Fantasy), Fantasy 5 (Handmade), Punic (Handmade)
  • Fixed some typos in the code for star names
  • Fixed Biblical (Fantasy) namelist using Byzantine surnames

I'm not sure how many of the name-lists are getting used in my games, but in my latest one, I saw a couple of planets named after Dwemer ruins such as Mzanch, so at least one's working. :)

Nice, the randomly generated planet names for species using the Dwemer namelists are all ruins found in the TES games. In the first post where I have the list of all the namelists I've added, you can see which of the namelists the AI can randomly spawn with, generally speaking all of the namelists except for most of the real-life ones will be used (for obvious reasons). So generally when people post screenshots of Stellaris wherever I can actually tell when people are using CANS, especially if they have some Khajiit or Dwemer or whatever names around, hehe.

I recognize you! ^_^ A couple of the namelists used stuff I used in VIET, like Tocharians, but now they're space Tocharians I guess.

And thanks for asking, I'm doing well enough, life's moving along as always.

Nice to see you remember me. Anyways if you are interested in knowing, I am going to Grad School in the fall.

That is good. Hope it continues that way, and perhaps better.

Thanks. Studying Political Science.

Have a few ideas/requests/suggestions for name lists if you'd like to to hear them. Anyways the new update looks cool might have to go look at them, as in go into the files and see everything you put there.
