Introduction:

This is (intended to be) a collection of minor mods (which might grow or get merged down the road) with the purpose of fixing regnal numbers whenever possible. There are a couple of mods that have done the similar things but they often alter vanilla setups such as making Louis II Emperor is 867. This is primarily intended for anal retentive people who are bothered by issues without any gameplay implications.

Purpose:

Use correct regnal numbers for rulers whenever possible, without messing up start dates or alter gameplay in other ways.

Released:

RDR: (download link - unzip in your mod folder)
Corrected numbers for all Emperors of Rome in Western Europe (Holy Rome).
Seamless transition.
No changes in start dates (e.g. no Holy Roman Empire in 867)
769
HRE
, Francia and Italia have no previous holders.
Pépin is King of West Francia & Middle Francia instead.

- With no previous rulers there is no issue.

867
Emperors of Francia
:
Charlemagne
Louis I
Lothaire
Francia is considered destroyed at Treaty of Verdun.

Startup event: Title history of Francia copied to HRE & Italia.

- As successor empires, they would acknowledge previous rulers.

936
Title History of Francia imported into Italia (seamless transition to next emperor)

Emperors of Italia
Louis II
Charles 'the Bald'
Charles 'the Fat'
Guy of Spoleto
Lambert of Spoleto
Arnulf of Carinthia
Louis III
Berengar of Friuli
Italia is considered destroyed after Berengar's death.

Title History of Italia imported into Germania (seamless transition to next emperor)

Emperor of Germania
Heinrich the Fowler
Germania is considered destroyed after Heinrich's death.

Title History of Germania imported into HRE (seamless transition to next emperor)

Startup event: Title history of Italy is copied to Francia.
Startup event: Title history of Germania is copied to HRE. (Otherwise title history will imply that the title exist in 936).
Startup event: Title history of Saxony is copied to Germania (Thankmar wouldn't acknowledge Carolingers but maybe Saxons?)

- Francia, Italia & HRE acknowledge all previous rulers.
- HRE also include Heinrich the Fowler as Heinrich II would be enumerated as his successor.

1066-1337

Startup event: Title history of Italy is copied to Francia.

Title History of Germania imported into HRE (seamless transition to next emperor)
Emperors of HRE
Otto 'the Great'
[...]
Ludwig IV 'the Bavarian'

- Francia & Italia acknowledge all Frankish Emperors of Rome, from Charlemagne to Berengar.
- HRE includes EVERYONE (Lothair of Supplinburg will remain Lothair II not Loathair III - I can't help that the poor man was confused.)

All claimants are restored in all starts.

---

In Progress:

SNT:
Kingdom of Sicily & Naples & Trinacria only includes title history from 1071.
New post-Norman Duchy of Sicily (seamless transition from original duchy).
Cute CoA for pre-Norman Sicily.

SPA:
Empire of Hispania now inserts title history from founder if founder is Iberian.
Other restrictions apply.
Fixes bug that prevents Rise of Hispania event from firing.
Vanilla issues with regnal numbers remain, might be updated but looks grim.

Future Work:

ESN:
Add naming links to Saxon names, e.g. 'Eadweard_Edward' - removing these was a bad solution.
Correct numbers for all Kings of England (Normans ignore previous Saxon kings)

Suggestions are welcome!

You might want to have a look at Hispanic kingdom titles from 1200s onwards. A lot of those are poorly merged, so wrong regnal numbers all the way!
Thank you.
The problem, as far as I can tell, is that a unified numeral system is used to enumerate the kings of Asturias, Galicia, León, and Castile, whereas CK2 only have access to the commands insert_title_history = SOME_TITLE (insert title history before earliest entry) and copy_title_history = SOME_TITLE (copies entire history - only useful in start up scripts as it ruins history if used in history files).
I think it works rather well actually; the only name with a faulty number (as far as I can tell) is Alfonso. Have I missed any?

Historically we have:
King Alfonso VII of León and Castile
King Alfonso VIII of Castile
King Alfonso IX of León
King Alfonso X of León and Castile
later rulers (including those named Alfonso) hold both kingdoms.

In CK2 these will be
King Alfonso VII of León and Castile (all good)
King Alfonso VIII of Castile (not registered for León)
King Alfonso VIII of León (should be Alfonso IX AND is not registered for Castile)
King Alfonso IX of León and Castile (should be Alfonso X for all titles)
all subsequent kings named Alfonso will have wrong numbers (Alfonso XI 'the Avenger' is Alfonso X, in game)

I can't think of a clean way to solve this (yet). One could, of course, simply let Alfonso VIII & IX switch titles for a day. That would fix regnal numbers but would also go against the idea of not altering gameplay. Also, the title history would be flat out wrong instead of just being off with the count.

Hopefully CK III offer greater flexibility with numbering.
