In all my games stations are just destroyed almost instantly and the maintenance on them is extremely expensive. I want to put stations to defend my wormholes but they are just so squishy.

If you have any other suggestions to improving stations I would love to hear it. Fortresses may be OP I would like to hear your experience with them.

Changes:
- Double station HP
- 5 times the shields on stations
- 50% more range on stations (up from 20%)
- 75% more damage on stations
- 100% higher sensor range on stations
- Reduce station maintenance massively. From 175% to 75%.
- Gave stations more modules. From 1,1,1 per large weapon to 2,3,1. This makes them more expensive and considerably better at defending.

Reduced damage and increased maintenance.

I did a similar thing in my mod, though i just upped the station weapon range, rate of fire and damage and, the most important, changed how close they can be from other stations. I could not find how to change their upkeep though (aside from making them cheaper), how did you do it?

Define file. You need to be negative so -0.625 is 62.5% off.

Code:
NDefines.NEconomy.MILITARY_STATION_MAINTENANCE_MUL    = -0.625;

Does this change how close stations can be to one another? I think that would also be a big help, as stations tend to be able to be picked off and killed rather easily- I can have multiple 20k fleets roaming around and even a 5k Fortress doesn't stand a chance against even one of them, but if I could have 2 or 3 in an area it would make a huge difference, and that's just vanilla stations.

No. I don't know where in the files you change distance between stations. I think it may be there module radius but I don't really want to change there support potential.

AFAIK closeness between stations is ruled by build_block_radius in 00_ship_sizes and changing those numbers should allow for tighter construction

I found what you are talking about. I don't know if I really want people to be able to place two fortresses next to each other because I made them pretty potent.

My idea was to give stations the border expansion of an outpost, but keep the costs as they are.

Maybe even not give it to the first version, but do give it to the top two.
