Hello everyone,

The mod is currently a work in progress. The purpose of this post is to get some comments from you guys for features in the mod. I will post a Steam Workshop link once the mod is complete.

With this mod I intend to fix a major annoyance whereby you cannot negotiate with someone when inviting them to your court. For example, let's say you want to invite someone to your court (for your own selfish purposes) but for whatever reason they don’t want to move. What if you could offer them some sort of “encouragement”? Currently, in the vanilla game, there is no way for you to negotiate with them.

With this mod you will be able to:
  • Promise to give them titles (counties, duchies, kingdoms, empires) if they accept your invitation (you get to choose what titles you want to give).
  • Promise to press one of their claims if they accept your invitation (you get to choose which claim to press).
  • The target person will consider your offer and make a decision based on the value of things you promised, their traits, current situation (are they heirs to any titles? etc.) and several other factors.
  • If they accept your offer and join your court, you will get three options:
    • Immediately fulfill your promises (grant the promised titles, declare war to press the promised claim etc.)
    • Break your promises. This will give you a prestige hit, a negative modifier that will lower everyone’s opinion of you as well as encourage the invited person to go back to their previous court.
    • Break the promises and imprison the invited person. This will give you a large prestige hit and a severe negative modifier that will lower everyone’s opinion of you, as well change your traits (e.g. add Deceitful, remove Just etc.).
What are your thoughts? What more features could be added? Let me know in the comments!
Hello everyone,

This mod adds an immersive way to invite characters to your court by letting you negotiate with them. For example, let's say you want to invite someone to your court (for your own selfish purposes) but for whatever reason they don’t want to move. What if you could offer them some sort of “encouragement”? Or there are characters that you want to invite to your court to grant them titles or press their claims, but they don't know this and you cannot communicate with them. Currently, in the vanilla game, there is no way for you to negotiate with them. With this mod, there is!

FEATURES
  • Players can now invite characters to their court by offering them some promises such as titles, council position and pressing a claim.
  • The target character will accept or reject the invitation based on:
    • The value of things promised.
    • The target's current situation.
    • The target's and inviter's traits.
  • Accepting the invitation will create a temporary non-aggression pact between the inviter and the invited character.
  • If the target accepts and comes to the player's court, the player can choose to:
    • Fulfill the promises immediately (will give a positive modifier "Quick to Fulfill Promises" for several years).
    • Ask the invited character to wait for another year.
    • Break promises (will give a negative modifier "Promise Breaker" for several years).
  • If the player asks the character to wait, the character may accept or reject depending on:
    • Number of years already waited.
    • Traits (patient, wroth etc.)
    • Inviter's traits (honest, deceitful etc.)
    • Some other factors.
  • If the character does not accept to wait, the player must choose to fulfill the promises immediately or break the promises.
  • If the character decides to accept to wait, then every year a check will be made to see:
    • If the promises can still be fulfilled. If yes the character will remind you. You may fulfill the promises now, or request him to wait more.
    • If the promises can no longer be fulfilled, then the promises will be considered broken even if circumstances are to blame.
    • If the promises have already been fulfilled. If yes, then the promises will be considered fulfilled and the character will thank you.
  • If at any time after accepting the invitation, the inviter decides to take a hostile action against the invited character, such as imprisonment, execution or revealed murder, the promises will be considered broken and the inviter will get a severe negative modifier "Backstabber" for several years.
  • If the invited character dies, or goes to another court (even within the inviter's realm), or becomes landed outside the inviter's realm, the promises will be considered void and everything will be reset. No damage will occur.
  • Game Rule: "Invitee Patience" with three settings:
    • Dynamic (Default): Invited characters may accept or reject requests to wait additional years for the promises to be fulfilled based on their traits, the inviter's traits, time already waited and other factors.
    • Patient: Invited characters will always accept the request to wait additional years.
    • Impatient: Promises will have to be fulfilled immediately after inviting a character. The character cannot be asked to wait additional years.
    • So you can tailor the experience to your liking.

HOW TO MAKE PROMISES

Unfortunately in CK2 modding, there is no support for selecting titles in a targeted diplomatic interaction with characters. Hence I have implemented a workaround way for promising titles:
  • Right click on any title that you personally hold and select Promise to Grant. This will add that title to the list of titles currently being offered as a promise. If you want to remove it from the list, just right click it again and select Remove Promise to Grant.
  • Right click on any title and click Promise to Press Claim. This will add a promise to press claim on that title. You can right click the title again and select Remove Promise to Press Claim to remove the promise before inviting a claimant.
  • Right click on any character and select "Other Promises". This will allow you to adjust other promises being offered, such as council position.
  • Somewhat important: If you add a title to Promise to Grant, but don't use it for inviting anyone - if you want to Destroy the title, it is better that you Remove the Promise to Grant first as it will help avoid confusion with future invites. There is a safety check built into the mod for destroyed titles but that works every 15 days for performance reasons.

HOW TO INVITE WITH PROMISES
  • Right click on any character and select "Invite With Promises". This will display the target's decision as well as acceptance score. If the score is above 1 you can send the invitation. The target will immediately move to your court.
    • Titles added to Promise to Grant will ONLY be promised IF the invited character is a valid character for being granted titles.
    • Title added as Promise to Press Claim will ONLY be promised IF the invited character is a claimant and the claim is pressable.
  • If, after inviting, at any time you want to remember what promises you made to a character, just right click on that character's portrait and select "View Promises Made". This will open an event and the promises made to that character will be shown in the Tooltip of the Option of that event.

COMPATIBILITY
  • Compatible with ALL mods! This includes overhaul mods such as HIP and CK2+.
  • Save-game compatible.
  • Disables Achievements.

What about promising them offices or honourary titles?

Pretty strong for getting those pesky title claimants. Will be great for Christian rulers, unsure how it'll fare for pagan/eastern.
I like this idea. Perhaps you shouldn't have to declare war straight away if you promise to press a claim though. Maybe delay for a while?

The mod has been released. I have edited the original post with a description of the mod's features as well as download links. Honorary titles are beyond the scope of the mod as it is too minor but too cumbersome to implement. A sort of "delay" mechanic has been implemented which can be tailored via game rule.
